Agree with Gardner and Lanning. Don't think I can put Sherrod and Collins in same category. Good high school players, but they would not even start for most good programs, might not play at all in great programs. Is Lanning going to play this year? Great player, but tough to get looks when you don't play.
Yeah, thats crazy to have to worry about defense and discipline. Lets just play pickup everyday and out athlete everybody. Unreal. Are you serious in thinking that hiring some AAU guy (no offense I know there are a lot of quality AAU coaches) will automatically start sending players to D1 schools. D1 schollys are hard to come by and East TN doesn't get very many year in year out. If you are a D1 prospect, you will be found, regardless of who your high school coach is and regardless of what school you go to.
I know those coaches all had good years this year, but I don't think anyone would classify them as the best in the area. No offense to them, they all had good years with talented teams, but I don't think they are capable of running a program like Oak Ridge. Coaching in AAA knoxville area is far superior to A and AA, with obvious exception of Jody Wright.
Not sure that Creech is even a serious candidate, definitely not a fianlists. All county employees must get an interview, board policy. Heard 8 were interviewing, 3 work in school system, so 5 other candidates. Hire will most likely come from other 5, only county employee with a shot is Berquist.
Who are the other finalists? Have they interviewed anyone yet? What about Berquist, he has been there a long time, had to of learned a lot with Wright the last two years, is his name in the mix?
Let's get this back on topic. Deadline for apps is up, does anyone know when the interview process will start? Anyone been contacted? Who are the front runners at this point? The only name that seems to be floating around is the guy from Cumberland Co.
Haven't heard. But it was interesting how the girls deal went down. I would think with the direction of the program and the expectations and standards that Coach Wright set that they would have to open it up. It should be a very appealing job for someone.
I am not sure that funds become available in Morristown. At least not for basketball.
Agree with Duncan, it's pretty well known that he is not all that happy with current G'ville situation. I don't think East pays as well as G'ville, but don't know that for sure. Creech has gone after it before, not sure if anything has changed. Beets could be a possibility.
Who replaces Wright at East. They have good talent coming back and have learned how to win. It'll be interesting to see what kind of interest this job gets. Any current assistants have a chance? I would assume Sinard will go after it, rumor is he wants back in coaching.
He will do fine. It is not like he was beating up on bad teams with a load of talent. It is obviously a week area of the state for talent, but he was coaching with teh same type of kids. So I think when he has more talent he will compete with the more talented teams. IF that makes any sense.
