  1. From USA Wrestling: Statement by USA Wrestling Executive Director Rich Bender on the IOC Executive Committee announcement on wrestling [/url]22 By Rich Bender USA Wrestling 02/12/2013 USA Wrestling is surprised and disappointed about today’s announcement concerning the International Olympic Committee Executive Board recommendation that wrestling not be a core sport included in the 2020 Olympic Games. Wrestling is one of the sports of the original Greek Olympic Games and in the first modern Olympic Games. It is one of the most diverse sports in the world, with nearly 200 nations from all continents participating in wrestling. It is an inclusive sport which provides opportunities worldwide, regardless of geography, race, gender or physical characteristics. We look forward to telling the story about wrestling to the International Committee leadership and the entire world about our great sport and why it should be part of the Olympic movement forever. USA Wrestling pledges to be a leader in the international effort to insure that wrestling remains on the Olympic program. As we continue our leadership in expanding wrestling within our nation, we also will place our full resources and energy behind supporting wrestling on the international level. - Rich Bender USA Wrestling Executive Director February 12, 2013
  2. The problem is that Fencing and Equestrain are already individual sports with the Olympics...why the need for a "Modern Pentathalon" that features sports of the wealthy and elite. Wrestling is a sport that all of humanity can participate in regardless of the country or stature they were born into.
  3. Completely ridiculous...this will have more of an economic impact from countries where they ONLY have International-style Wrestling. It won't affect the U.S. as much (imo). I can see countries BOYCOTTING the Olympics because of this, namely Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbajan, Iran, etc...

  13. B.b.b. Wouldn't Jordan Russell at 36-2 be one of the top records or is his record a misprint? I know he lost a decision to Dickerson recently.
  14. Thanks for the correction...the copy/paste function must have been used at some point because the score I had listed was the score from the Soddy Daisy match. These have been revised in my summary.
  15. Enjoy! Congrats to Cleveland, Christian Brothers, and Greeneville on State Championships! http://leagueathletics.com/Page.asp?n=70120&snid=dNMKY%3EJ6%5E&org=tennwrestling.com
  16. I will agree with you on that point sir. Obviously our remembrance of where the referees were positioned are different, which as many have stated is our right to state. One of the biggest problems with "bad calls" or "missed calls" with officiating wrestling in general and any sport really is improper mechanics. I have been on both sides of these calls due to improper mechanics my whole wrestling/coaching career. It is frustrating, but as you said...character is the main concern. I wish Ethan the best at State as he goes for a title. Coach Knepper
  17. Mr West, My intent was not to offend you or your son. He is a great wrestler. Never did i say that the head referee was 180 degrees from the Asst. The head referee was standing behind Matlock from my viewpoint, not off to the side and did not even make an attempt to get down into position. If roles were reversed I would have given the same statement.
  18. In my opinion, Matlock had the pin for close to 5 seconds. My vantage point was from 20 feet away matside from the angle that the referee SHOULD have been viewing the spladle. The referee in question never got into position as the Asst was actually in the location for correct viewing of a spladle (i.e. from 90 deg angle from the spladler). It was pretty obvious to me and to a large portion of the crowd that Matlock was going for the spladle, yet the reaction by the referees indicated a lack of awareness on the application of wrestling moves. It was unfortunate that the injury occured later, but you can't blame that on a referee. I wish the best to Keagan and hope to see him across the mat for several years to come in college.
  19. Prior to this weekend: Wilson Central (37-2) <<Ranked #3 behind Soddy Daisy and Cleveland>> Wins over #7 Blackman 50-16 and Tullahoma during Region Duals. This may be the only team in the state that can stick with the top-2 at the State Duals. Other notable wins this season include over #4 Heritage 44-23, #7 Blackman 46-24, #8 Pigeon Forge 60-11, #9 Ravenwood 46-26, #10 Beech 59-12, #13 Franklin 38-31, #18 Cookeville 63-12, #19 Dickson Co 52-12, #20 Independence 60-16, #23 Siegel 51-25, and Gibbs 69-12. Only losses are to Jefferson (GA) 54-18 and Gilmer (GA) 37-31. I think some of the teams listed above would take offense to the "not having faced anyone" statements. Congrats to Cleveland on a dominating performance. They definitely deserve to be listed in the top-50 in the nation in my opinion.
  20. New D-1 Rankings won't be released until after State Duals D-2 Rankings: http://leagueathletics.com/Page.asp?n=69522&snid=dNN%40R3D1Z&org=tennwrestling.com
  21. The Middle Tennessee Dream Team isn't actually a team that competes...it is an awards panel that is voted on by the Mid Tenn h.s. coaches (both D-1 and D-2). Hope that clears things up and Devan has a great shot at taking home a state title!
  22. Just to clarify...his name is Austin Richard, not Richards.
  23. Enjoy. See everyone at the Duals Friday and Saturday. http://leagueathletics.com/Page.asp?n=69364&snid=dIGA%5B1K%3EV&org=tennwrestling.com
