I've been doing this for the past 4 years and it has been beneficial to many wrestlers. Last year I had 95 willing participants. They had a blast. Of my 48 high school wrestlers, 11 were state champs this year and 27 stood on the podium. There is hardly anyone on the 5A or 6A podium that isn't at this very good competition. I started this venture because my son was never quite good enough to make the Team Alabama team, so I started taking my own. Heck this year my boy was 59-0 and won the state championship and somehow he wasn't good enough to make the 1st team. Are you in the same type of situation? To be on one of my teams, the cost is 140 dollars for a singlet, hoodie, t-shirt, shorts, sweatpants and registration fee. Practice is just with your local club unless you want to come down to Huntsville to practice. Some people do come from a distance on Sunday to get some good quality match time. Hello Tennessee wrestlers and parents, My name is Scott Smith and for the past 4 years I have taken teams to the Dixie Duals. I put together teams of K-12th graders. I had two middle school teams and three high school teams last year. The first year I did this my son Ben was in the eighth grade and my thinking was I didn't want him to fall behind any farther to the kids he already couldn't beat. He got 4th in the state the last two years at 112 pounds and this year he went all the way and won the 125 lb. weight class. Even if he had never won it was still the right thing to do. He has always gotten very tough matches at the Dixie Duals. I'd say this year he had 5 very tough matches during the high school season. He will get more than that in 48 hours at the DD. I had not seen that tournament on the schedule. I googled it and it didn't come up either. All I can say is if some of your guys want to come and face some different competition they are more than welcome. They should get between 8 to 10 matches. I hope to see some of your guys there. You don't have to be there all three days, whatever works best for you. K Thru graduating 2010 seniors. It is set up in a dual format so we can get more matches for each wrestler. It will be a folkstyle competition. When it is over, if there is time on Sunday we will let the athletes decide what they want to do. We are going to be very flexible. The main thing that I want to see is two boys on the mat wrestling and having an opportunity to get better. That will take you to a page that will answer many of the questions that you may have on this tournament. This is the weekend before the Militia Duals and could be a good warm up for some of your wrestlers going to that competition. The main difference in my duals is if you don't have a team, please call and we will put you on one that is being built. Your team may not compete for the championship, but you will have an opportunity to compete and get better. It should be a great weekend. There is going to be a mini-camp on Friday from 9:00 to 3:00 and then the participants from the camp can weigh-in for the weekend and split. Remember I am making up two teams The requirements are strict though. 1. You must love to wrestle. 2. You must root for your teammates. 3. You must try your hardest. 4. Hello, I have 3 high school teams that I am making up and two of each of the other divisions. I have many open spots. Hello Neighbors to the North, I hope you had a wonderful winter of wrestling. My name is Scott Smith and each of the past two years I have gotten my own teams up to compete at the Dixie Duals. We have never went with the idea of winning. I just wanted to give other wresters other than the ones that made Team Alabama an opportunity to wrestle. I really didn't want my boy to fall farther behind the competition because they were getting to go to the Duals and he wasn't. It's been a lot of fun and he loves the high caliber of wrestling. He actually gets about as many tough matches in this weekend as he gets the whole wrestling season. I am trying to make two teams of each of the elementary and Middle School Teams. Hello, I have gotten up a team that last couple of years to compete in the Dixie Duals. I have taken wrestlers who didn't make Team Alabama, but needed to go and compete so they don't fall farther behind the competition. I realize you guys have had problems in the past and probably aren't taking a team this year. Some very interesting posts. As I stated earlier, they addressed the moving wrestlers to different teams and I did not hear what was decided. When our 135 was injured and unable to return on Sunday and we had an alternate that weighed 128 in the Middle School Division, I asked if it was legal and they said fine. I don't know if I was given special priveledge or not being from Alabama. Believe me my team is not a welcome site to the Team Alabama teams that are there to win and possibly as many of you think win at all costs. I love to win, but I am putting my team together with a bunch of wrestlers who just want to get great mat time. If they had told me that I couldn't put this athlete in that position, I would have just taken the forfeit and he would have still wrestled the boy in an exhibition match. No big deal. No harm no foul. I didn't care what answer I got. The result would have been the same as far as I was concerned. This wrestler of mine would have gotten the same match against the same boy and the outcome would have probably have been the same. It sadens me that it has come to this. It looks like Georgia and Florida and Louisiana are still happy with the tournament, but you are right, there are many who are not returning. I'm still wondering what happened to the Challenge Cup and why was it stopped? I personally am not looking to travel more than 4 to 6 hours away with a whole team so would love to keep a competition of this caliber in the near vicinity. I saw that another mid-tennessee had attempted to get a team up, what happened with that venture? Was there really a lack of interest? Look I didn't come on here to tell all of you that all is well and fine with what happened. If you choose not to come I think it hurts us and you both. I just thought that since you were here and decided to come this year that you could have went ahead and wrestled again. I find it interesting that everyone of the people that posts on this forum completely agree with the decision that leaving was the right decision. I'm glad that there is such harmony in your state. I understand that this team came to the Duals to WIN. And if you aren't going to give us the chance to win we'll leave mentality. I just don't agree with it. But I didn't come to the duals to win. I came to give the boys on my team the needed mat time to not fall even farther behind the competition. I wish you could understand that. It's just a different perspective. If I knew how to make it better I would. But since the state director is the one in charge, he will have to figure out what direction he need's to take to put on a good tournament.
