    Sac fly rule

Thanks for helping. I did not find out about the date of last year's rules meeting until it was too late. Were there any other major changes? Do you know of any changes they are considering for the upcoming season?
  3. Who plays in the loudest gym and why?

When was the rule changed back? I was still under the impression that if the umpire noticed a runner leaving early he/she made the call immediately and there was no appeal. I know it was a rule at one time. If it is not currently the rule, I apologize.
  5. You're right. I haven't played much football. I understand the importance of having a lineman that can plug the middle over the ball. I have also seen linebackers that can plug a hole just as well. Thanks for your response.
  6. I cannot believe that the Cleveland Browns did a smart thing. They kicked an on-side kick to the "weak part of the field." I had said that a team would have a better shot a recovering an on-side kick with less defenders to worry about. I am curious about another rumination. Is it a rule that defensive linemen line down at the line of scrimmage? If it is not, what advantage do they get from doing it? Could they stand a foot away from the line with a one step of momentum to attack the offensive linemen?

I was refering to a runner leaving a base too soon. Since there is no appeal an umpire, in my opinion, may not see the need to be sure they are in the correct position to make the correct call. If they know a coach might appeal the play they may be more likely to get in the proper position. As far as the penalty for an umpire, I know there is not a penalty. The umpire also knows there is not a penalty. I would just like to see more observations by TSSAA officials and if inadequacies are found they can be required to attend classes or summer camps.

Just curious to know other opinions. Since their is no appeal on a sacrifice fly in high school ball, do you think it has made umpiring better or worse? This is one opinion. I think it has made it worse because an umpire can say "I didn't see it" and there is no penalty to him. At least if they know someone may appeal they may watch extra close so the correct call is made.

Just curious to know other opinions. Since there is no appeal of a sacrifice fly in high school ball, do you think it has made umpiring better or worse? This is one opinion. I think it is worse because umpires, especially with more than one runner on base, are less likely to watch their base since there is no penalty to them if "they just didn't see it."
  10. I am a high school softball coach in Nashville. I am in need of good hitting/pitching instructors in the area. I also need to know their fees. Thanks.
  11. The reason for posting it on this board is that there may be consideration given to the competition aspect if more private schools drop scholarships and leave DII in the future.
  12. I have not said that this system is what I would want. I do know that DII schools have the choice to play in either division. This thread was more to do with basketball than any other sport. The road to Murfreesboro is paved much smoother for DII schools. Believe me - I am not knocking DII schools. Just giving an opinion.
  13. The way the championships are currently set up D II are given the same billing as if to say they went through the same grind to get to the same point when that is not the case.
  14. I am asking for other opinions. It seems to me at least in basketball that the Division II State Championships are no more than region championships in the other classifications based solely on the number of games it takes to win. What do you think?
  15. Any updates today? Is a search ongoing?
  16. Has the addition of the third official helped or hurt the game? Have you noticed an increase in fouls since the change?
  17. Who are some running backs to be looking out for this season? I haven't the first clue. Someone help!
  18. Which one does everyone play their regular season games with? Why do you prefer one over the other?
  19. They are one of about two dozen school across the country that play outside of the norms of high school sports. Virginia coaches tell me they recruit from all across the area and pick up talent from a variety of sources (private, public schools, etc.). When every school in the state refuses to play them it should tell you something. I really don't understand the reason for this thread. It is really simple, follow the rules, don't play them... end of discussion. The reason for the thread was to bring to light how ridiculous it is for Oak Hill to be grouped with other high schools from around the nation. [Edited by redfan on 8-8-02 4:22P]
  20. Then if it is so obvious that Oak Hill is like a 13th or 14th grade in school why would USA Today rank them in their national polls and select their coach as National Coach of the Year???????????
  21. Hunters Lane and Goodpasture should both be outstanding.
  22. I wonder what Lipscomb would do for a Maplewood/Whites Creek game? Great facility.
  23. Hendersonville is a great atmosphere. Ask anyone who was at the Maplewood/Hendersonville substate game.
  24. Can someone explain to me why the TSSAA will not allow member schools to play Oak Hill Academy but will allow a non-division II school to play a division II school? Just curious.
