2 out of 3 for pool play is good. Your not elimnating anyone. You are just seeding them for the tournament. Heck you can use the A-Game complex for some pool play and then move to murfreesboro for the tournament.

SSH....I think that's a great alternative to what we have. Just something that puts everyone on the same playing field... PH...I would pay whatever I needed to see my team/child play in the state tournament. It's an honor and a privilege to be a part of it and it doesn't happen that often. BTW..They don't care as much about our girls than they do about football. NEVER will you convince me of that...

That's what I'm saying. It's all about money and always will be. Isn't EVERYTHING??? Let's face it, The TSSAA doesn't care as much about girls volleyball as they do mens football and basketball. Therefore they don't put much thought into what goes on. The pool play would be a very fair format!!! Unfortunatley it cost too much. You just can't have what we have now. One team gets to lose one and stay while the other doesnt. THEY JUST DON"T CARE!!! Ask them!!

Ok...I give you credit for coming up with an answer..But tell me this...These Athletes have been practicing since the first of August. EVERY DAY!! Shouldn't the governing body put the Fairest format out there for them? You said, "it may not be the fairest", well then lets make it the fairest. This is for the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!! It should be the fairest. It isnt fair that one team gets to lose and still stay in it while the other doesnt..Thoughts about that?? I like the try though..

The topic is..The Volleyball final 8 format is a joke. If any format is part Double and part single elimination its unfair. Period!!! Like I said before..It should either be one or the other. If they do it because they want to increase revenue (which is probably the reason) then it's wrong. Do what's fair for the girls. I will never root for the loser bracket winner to win, if they keep it the way it is. Even if Bearden would be in the loser bracket. Yes I would root for them but I personnaly wouldn't think it was fair if they won. I STILL haven't heard a legit reason why it's fair the way they do it now. Please someone tell me why it should stay as is!!!

PH...First of all. I am not like 90% of the people on here. I am not posing as an imposter. I will stand up and say who I am. I am a Bearden High School parent. It shouldn't really matter who I am unless you are trying to keep track of the people here. I posted this topic to let people know how I feel and to hear how others feel about it. My question to Engineer is for everyone...BUT you have to answer the question as I stated it. This is only to format the FINAL 8 teams tournament. Nothing else.. I will answer my own question very quickly..The tournament of the final 8 should be single elimination only. You lose you go home...

babyengineer..Take all the time you need. Just remember you are dealing with only the final 8. Nothing prior than that.

Question for you babyengineer...If you were asked to run the largest tournament in the state for (lets say) volleyball. It's the first time ever. You get to pick how to format it. How would YOU format the tournament and why. The tournament consist of 8 teams that have made their way through to the state finals.

Oh shoot. I thought this was the #1 most important thing that would ever happen in a volleyball players life..That's why I started the post! Now back to reality. This is a message board, put together to talk about TN sports and discuss different topics. If we only bring up topics that are Important in the "grand scheme of things" then lets call this board "how to get to heaven". Come on. This message board is awesome!! It gives people a way to chat about things that really don't mean much in the "grand scheme of things". Have fun with it. Oh and btw..If it's not a fair system then let's fix it..

You are absolutley right. If TV and time is a problem then make the darn thing single elimination. That's the norm all over the country. Either one or the other.

There is NO way that is fair!!! Fair for who? I don't care how they format the tournament as long as its the same way all the way through. Either double elimination or Single. There is No way it can be fair if part is one way then they switch to another. That's hilarious. There is NO argument that can be said for this format to be fare unless you think "distribution of success' is fair. Oh and by the way. My team is Bearden and we would have been in the loser's bracket. So this is not coming from a winner's bracket champion. This format is embarrassing. Every game in the tournament should be "all or nothing"!! This is the Final 8!!!

I just have to say that this Volleyball format, which is made up of double elimination/single elimination, is a JOKE!!!! I can not believe that the AD's of the Schools in TN have not demanded this to change. How in the world do you have part of the Tournament double elimination and then the finals single elimination. I don't care what you say, there is no justifiable answer for this MORONIC system! None!! Oh I get it. Kind of like the "distribution of wealth" notion. The winners bracket champion works their "you know what" off to win EVERY game and the others loose but thats ok...No worries to the losers. Once you get to the championship you only have to beat the winners once, even though they already beat you once. Hey winners, that's what you get for winning all your games.... NOTHING. Who is the person at TSSAA that thinks this is fair??? I cannot believe that the coaches and AD's put up with this system. This would never fly in a state that is highly competitive!!!! Let's just all play upwards volleyball and crown everyone a winner.

PH...To answer your questions. I do not have a website. I am a high school football, basketball and volleyball fan (in that order). I own my own business (not sports related) and yes I do make a profit on it. Thank goodness!!! I have a passion for high school sports and that is why I am on this site. When you said this was a coaches forum it kinda through me for a loop..Yes I have children that play high school and club volleyball and they love the sport. I am happy to answer any questions that you would like. I am not here to hide behind a fake name or investigate why people say what they say.

I would love for the moderator (not you Phargis) to difine what this forum is all about. If this is a coaches forum then I'm guessing a lot of people need to leave. Including myself. Thats the problem. Some people think they can say whatever they want and then when others post all of a sudden it's a negative post. You are right Admiral, the asst coach at Bearden does care and really tries to coach the girls. She is making a difference

AG...I'm with you I don't understand what PHargis is saying either. I have read many post on here but haven't commented yet. I am commenting because the post that i have read from PH are very vague. Not sure if that is on purpose or not. BTW BBV....Bearden beat catholic 3-1
