  1. Thats a shame they pulled out. C'mon Coach Carter pull on the big boy underwear and suck it up!! You wanted that job so bad and now you have it!!! You sure have made a huge mess out of a once great program!!!!!
  2. Just wondering if you have posted a schedule of games anywhere. I like to follow both NGHS and Cherokee since they now have one my favorite coaches!!! Just don't tell her because she might get the big head!!!! lol
  3. Maybe you should have you vision checked or maybe your even reading skills. If you will read or have someone read the post to you it plainly says that I was eating crow about the statement I made about Cherokee being the dark horse in the IMAC. Oh yeah just to let you know Cherokee defeated South Doyle and Seymour last week. 6th place is looking better every day.
  4. I have been keeping quiet lately because crow is a nasty thing to have to eat!! If anyone has forgotten I made the statement that I thought Cherokee would be the dark horse of the IMAC. Crow isnt to bad with a little salt and pepper. Here is the burning question I have........is it true that Katelyn Dody (hope I spelled that correctly) and one other player from Morristown West really quit??? I certainly hope not!! The Dody girl is a big part of their success. It would be a shame.
  5. Of you all know I am backing NOrth Greene. My daughters played sb not bb, but we try to attend as much as possible. I certainly hope that Britton and White can hold the team together and move them into the state play-offs. Wartburg is tough!! My hats off to you for the great job you all have done so far!!! Good Luck ladies!!!
  6. Wait a minute.............one question...........what on Earth does NGHS have to do with any of this????? Yes I am a NGHS fan. My daughters played there, but at no point did I even start to compare NGHS to any of these teams. But if you like hitting below the belt, where was Cherokee last year when NGHS was playing in the substate game???? At home watching?????? If memory serves me correctly, they didn't make it out of the districts.
  7. Baldnbeautiful............those litl' ole' grain fed farm grown girls at North Greene beat Unicoi last year. Why can't JC or HVHS????? They are tough, but beatable!!!! I would love to see JC or anyone for that matter knock UC off their pedestal!!!
  8. Well, let me think on it!! LOL I may eat my words. Crow can sometimes be good with a little salt and pepper!!
  9. What does Upper East TN have this year in District 1A? Unaka is the top dog? What about North Greene?
  10. You all are going to be in for a rude awakening!!!!! Sure Gilbert was great, but if I recall, Cherokee did very well last year at Eastman WITHOUT Gilbert and several other regular starters!!!! They also played very well and won several other games WITHOUT Gilbert!!! Cherokee will be the dark horse of the IMAC!! Anyone care to wager?????? I am saying they will be in the top 3.
  11. Just wanted to let everyone know that little old NGHS handed Unicoi County thier first loss to a TN team this year at the Morristown West Invitational, 2-1. Way to go Lady Huskies!!! We are very proud of you!!!!! Great job Coach Fletcher!!! What a shame to be loosing her!!! BIG MISTAKE!!!!! Maybe you should reconsider your decision!!!
  12. Thank you coach for all your hard work. NGHS is loosing not a great coach, but a wonderful person. The girls adore you and would do anything possible for you. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />
  13. I have been away for awhile came to catch up and saw this posting. It is sad that even though we are living the 21st century, all is not equal between the sexes. Yes, we have came a long way, but we still need to go further. I have an example for you, maybe I am just off on a tangent, but this post hit home with me. I went to watch NGHS play yesterday and found out some bad news. Their coach is leaving. She went there three years ago and took on a team that had not won more than 5 games in a season in 5 or 6 years. The first year they won 15 or somewhere near that. The second year, they qualified for the state tournament and won over 20 games. This year they are well on thier way to a repeat trip to the state play-offs. I asked her why she was leaving and all she would say is, "it is time". I did not buy that answer. So, I asked around. I was told by several that she was let go because the principal, who is a man, wants a football and boys' basketball coach. The boys' programs at NGHS struggle, to say it nicely, but why take away from the girls' softball program to better the boys? She came in and worked hard and built a wonderful program. I just don't understand his reasoning. If you ask her she will say, "I want to be closer to home and my daughter will be a freshman next year and I want to watch her play." To my knowledge, she has never said anything bad or ugly about the situation. She will take full responsibilty for leaving, but I really feel that she is leaving for other reasons. I know the girls' parents are concern as to what will happen to the program. I AM CONCERNED!!! My concern is that this "good old boy" who is a former athlete and coach at NGHS is only concerned with the boys program. He could care less about the girls. I know for a fact, last year all she asked for was a new bat and was told, "NO". The principal even told that at the sports banquet last year. The boys baseball team got 3 new bats. She had no assistants, only a stats keeper last year. Baseball had two assistant coaches. This year after a lot pressure from parents sb got new batting helmets. For crying out loud!!! Last year they played in the state tournament in t-shirts and basketball shorts!!! I am sorry, but this is ridiculous!!! The more I think about it the madder I get. I guess now is a good time to stop!!
  14. Ok MrNoItAll, I have been taking a beating from some other person because I was offended by comment he/she made about East TN, so I guess I might as well take one from you too. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> I have my stomach muscles tightened and I am ready for the punch. Here is my opinion for 1A class state berths. It is an opinion of sideliner, ok? Unaka: They are a tough team for up in Stoney Creek. Ronnie Hicks has made a craft of coaching sb. North Greene: THis team surprised many by defeating the outstanding team from Coalfield 1-0 last year. This team returns 6 Seniors and are well on their way to returning. Coalfield: All I can say is OMG!!!! Whichever team, Unaka or NGHS, that will end up playing them in a sub-state game, will most definitely have their hands full. Midway: Again Unaka or NGHS will have their hands full. Trinity Christian, Friendship, Huntingdon, Forrest, and Cornersville round out my possible choices. Honestly I don't enough about the last 5 teams other than they were excellent last year. I think you are wrong about the strength of the 1A division. There are a couple of those teams that can easily play with the "Big Girls" from 2A and 3A. I know that many of these teams "play up" to make themselves better. I know they have defeated many of the teams they have played. I am sure they have taken their share of beatings, too.
  15. Ok, as I have said before, I am fan on the sideline whose daughters have played and moved on. I proudly can say one is a sophomore at local college playing softball. I however, attend as many HS games as I can. I understand what you are saying. I attend a lot of North Greene's game and I have noticed that Coach Fletcher had given her catcher the green light on calling pitches. Just out of curiousty I asked why. Her answer was this, "I trust her judgement. She has faced these girls for 4 years now and has played travel ball with and against many of them. She knows what they can and cannot hit." I know Coach Ward at Chuckey Doak is pretty insistant that he call pitches. Greeneville calls the pitches. I like NGHS philosphy. Even though, she has coached for a few years there, she knows her pitcher and catcher will make the right decisions. Maybe she is wrong. Maybe she is right. Whichever it is, it seems to be working!
  16. Thank you. I just think the girls deserve the respect of the rest of the state. I have to say that I have the opportunity to see Coalfield in action. These girls are a force to be reckoned with!!!! They may be young but they are tough and strong!!!!
  17. There is obviously no reason to argue or to try to pursuade you to at least a little more open minded. It is very clear that you will continue to see things your way, which obviously you believe is the only way. You know what? That is okay, too. I believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion. Good or bad that is all it is, an opinion. However, I would like to say in my defense that I am by no means using AAU as measuring stick. I am just of the opinion that it is a wonderful tool in a bag of many, that is all.
  18. Well Thank you. I appreciate your honesty and you are correct. In the past they have gotten there only to beaten down by much better teams. I know that the coach from North Greene said last year after they returned from the Spring Fling that the first team they played was incredible. They also had 2 out of the park home runs against the second team they played. Not to shabby. They were beaten 10-5. Anyway, she said that they had not seen pitching comparable to what they saw there. It was a completely different level of play. Yes, they along with several othe NE TN teams are working hard to build a better program. Yes I did mean ASA. Sorry about that!
  19. I agree with you. To be a good solid pitcher you must have much more than speed. I think my comment was not stated very clearly. We are located in Upper East TN and it is pretty rare for teams to come out of Region One and make it to the State Playoffs. I know for a fact that when NGHS made it last year, they were the first team from Greene County to ever make it. I tend to be a little over protective I guess. I just think that a lot of times teams from Upper East TN are over looked, even Unicoi, Elizabethton, North Greene, and Unaka. These girls work hard too. Now for the person who made the comment about the AAU, I have one question for you....... where would these teams be if it weren't travel ball and AAU? With new restrictions that are being increased every year, coaches are having their hands tied tighter and tighter everyday. Travel ball and AAU are a blessing!!
  20. Congrats!!!! It is awsome when a Tn team is recognized nationally for thier achievements!!!! Beech has an incredible team. I am from East TN, but I think it is a wonderful accomplishment!!!!
  21. What was the comment about them being sold East TN all about???? Is it because you have a distorted imagine of the girls who play from East TN? Just for future reference out of the 8, 3A schools represented in last years state tourney, there were 2 from East Tn and 1 in the 1A class. If my memory serves me correctly, wasn't it a team out of Morristown that competed in and won the 14 and under National AAU Championships? I realize parents often have a distorted image of thier childs capabilities, especially those parents who are living thier dreams through thier children. I have followed girls softball for years. Both of daughters played through high school and one is currently playing in college. I have seen a lot really good teams and therefore a lot of very good pitchers. However, there are very few high school pitchers that are capable of throwing in the mid to upper 60's consistantly. I can understand the occassion fast ball that hits in the mid to upper 60's. If this kid is really throwing in the mid to upper 60's, consistantly, Coach Weekly will be beating her door down!!!!
  22. I agree 100% on the pitcher from Coalfield. NGHS faced her in the sub-state game last year and she was incredible!! She limited NGHS to 2 hits in the bottom of the seventh!! She is incredible!!! That girl is holding a golden ticket in her hand if she will just use it wisely!!!!
  23. I would like to add a couple of pitchers to the mix I think Lacey Huskins from Unaka, Jordan Bowers from Greeneville, and Tosha Hall from North Greene. Hall was an All-State Pitcher as a Sophomore and is blazing a trail for the Lady Huskies again this year.
  24. I hate to hear that she has injuried her knee. That is a tough one. Do they think it is season ending?
  25. I just want to say I have been following NGHS girls sport for awhile and do not recall the last time that NGHS has defeated CDHS. I just wanted to say congratulations to the girls and the coaches on thier 4-0 victory yesterday!!! Great job girls!!! You make us all proud!!
