  1. I went back 20 plus pages to find my old post.I'm here to congratulate the DEVILS. East Tn is proud. You are legit.
  2. No miracles are expected. No one has said the new HC is untalented. But let me Fill you in on how things are done here in ole JC,Yes he will work hard.He will be hamstringed at every turn.He will Not be allowed to spend any money. He will Not be allowed to hire his own staff. He will not get the Strength coach .He will be never NOT reminded about how great we were in 87.After 3 to 4 subpar seasons he will be strongly encouraged to resign. After that, there will be an exhaustive search and interview process .And after CAREFUL consideration and after they can't come to terms with the 1st or 2nd choices .The principal will hire a low cost friend. And process will repeat.
  3. With respect ,I swear I have read this exact comment last year or maybe the year before. And while I don't disagree,I'm reminded of the schools(few as they are)that these problems are NOT a problem.Just in our middle schools (4) there are 8th grade varsity/a B team and the 6th graders.Yes some kids transfer but no more than 1 or 3.What we have is a huge problem in our county. In addition to just being another poorly performing team/HS.Our kids have the ADDED bonus of being CONSTANTLY/daily/non-stop reminded about how great the 87 team was and how they don't measure up.This is the most common problem.Another variation/problem is the "my kid is as good as anyone on that team".Parents/county residents also believe that they know ALL about FB b/c they sat in the stands in 87.They coach their kids all the way home/speak about the coaches in horrible ways both behind there backs and screaming at them after the game.Another is so-called fans who sit real close to the home bench and hurl insults at the team/players.YES it's true!!! That's the real/first purpose of the cowbells. It's to create a noise barrier to protect the kids from the BS. SOMEBODY that actually played on that team(87) Please get on here or place a letter in the Paper. Please tell this county HOW HARD you trained(all year),Tell us about the lineman that could bench 500 lbs,Tell us about all the other "things/Products/Supplements" that were used to get 17 year olds that strong. We would also like to here about the health (mental/physical) of the former State Champions.Look ,people I'm Not hating on JC.I'm just Sick of the garbage /history that surrounds this team.
  4. First of all ,JC posters only please.Unless You have a "long and Storied" history in winning State! Meaning Maryville and Alcoa are welcome to help.Ok JC fans ,,,Remind me again why we cant be any better than average(on a good year).?REMEMBER we are the second largest HS in the State.I know it's due to Theft of School Funds .But, we are a Huge school. We Have 4 middle schools that feed our program. We have 6 local towns/cities that have pew wee/supergc/Grasscutteer programs In English Mountain FB .Many of these young programs Win year after year.SO WHATS THE problem at the HS?????I have my thoughts .LETS here from the JC Fans.
  5. UPDATE : J Bassinger signed w U of Cumberlands(KY) Congrats!!!!!
  6. I have seen here at Jeff County several players that would have started at Maryville and/or Alcoa,They would have recieved A great education/Great coaching/Winning alot or most of their games!!Being seen by alot more recruiters! Playing on television !! I wonder if their parents arnt alittle upset with themselves for not moving over to One those schools. RECRUIT at Acoa/Maryville ??? WHY would they have to ?? When your the BEST you will ATTRACT TALENT !!!
  7. By all accounts a great hire for Jefferson County !WELCOME Coach Cobble and family !!!!
  8. If the camp is free or for a nominal fee(say less than 50 bucks) then go ahead and give it a try.The player gets a nice workout, gets to hear coaching at the next level and gets to take home a nice t-shirt. Some of These high dollar camps and combines are a huge money maker for the folks putting them on.They are essentially a way for the assistant coaches to make some additional money.FOOTBALL UNIVERSITY IS 500 bucks for just a few days.If you have that kind of money to spend, send him to a training facility (D1 ect) for a few months,or buy him a gym membership or get him some professional nutritional advice/personal trainer . Just my 2 cents.
  9. Unfortunately I have seen for myself a coach be detrimental to getting players signed at the next level. This was seen at our school some years ago,but he wasn't a liar or lazy, He was just plain vindictive and hateful.Letters sent to the school(in care of the coach) inquiring about prospective college players were thrown in the trash or just left in a stack. At least until some upperclassman found them in his office.Thankfully these type of coaches are few and far between. In any case The parents most take a proactive roll.Oh, and their are a few books avail on the subject
  10. This is a huge area for discussion.Things can start as early as 8th grade.A "few" parents have opted to hold their kids back in this grade ,as to allow them to play in HS as a older(hopefully better) player.Further decisions are sometimes made to relocate to a school that provides a Bigger stage to play on,( think Maryville/alcoa for starters).Coaching at these historically WINNING programs is also seen as an advantage in recruiting/of course the competition can be higher as well!NEXT big thing to optimize player stature is "OFFSEASON TRAININ and CONDITIONING" , The best places( D1 training/Johnny LOng's) can get pricey. But Ive seen great result with running bleachers/hills and cone drills...I also cant emphasize WEIGHT TRAINING enough !!! Done all year with great effort and enthusiasm is going to elevate the players game!It also shows a college coach just how serious of a player you are!! THIS drive and fire is as much of a gift as natural talent. But talent with drive can soar !!! Besides careacter/and grades/test scores, playing time and full on intensity during practice and games is needed/demanded. College Coaches are going to want to see what a player does when the play goes the "other way",Does he still go hard?Domiinating on the field will get your name out as much as anything. But in the end it's often up to the parents(the ones that are not delusional) to help their kid find the right school ! Remember , A college can't "sneak you into school" You have got to work hard in the classroom and get the act/sat scores<<< Start taking these tests as early and as often as possible!! remembering that these scores effect the amount of Scholarship money that can be made available!!! GOOD LUCK and work HARD !!!
  11. Thanks for the vote of confidence on your former coach!I have checked with a few sources and have heard very similar positive statements about Coach Cobble. Thanks also for the "good Luck" comment. We are gonna need it.Our County issues are so ingrained it would take days to tell them all to you.Suffice to say we have Crooked elected officials who have have been wheelin/deal,n/and steal'n for generations. We also many "entitled " residents that believe that just because their ancestors are "FROM HERE " then they should get all the "starting" positions and all the "playing time" regardless of skill levels. He will have is hands full, but lets hope everyone can put their agenda aside and lets try to build this team up into a program.
  12. I,for one, am not willing to dislike this hire.I think it would be unfair to judge the guy before we have met him.The big question ,(at least at first....is whether he is a fair/honest man?,A man of ethics, truth, and decency?.Then can he rally the "players" and the community?,Next is how much support can he get from the school and county "shot callers"?,Can he get the assistantcoaches and support personel that he wants? Can he begin the process of rebuilding the program?,Weight room participation/enthusiasm.?CAN HE CONVINCE some of these IDIOT parents and QUASI SUPPORTERS to get on board? Can he acknowledge the 87 season once , and then convince everyone that saw that season to FORGET it and move ON?IDK the answer to anything, but I'm willing to wait and see for myself.
  13. Heres what reese had on his facebook;new HC Kenny Cobble,;1994 Mo West high grad;1998 grad of Maryville College,;Def cooridinator at RED BANK HS(Chatt)2002-2010;RED BANK RECORD 59-13,...6 times region Champs in past 6 years.
  14. i dont claim to know which IMAC team will come out on top. I will say it was a huge pleasure watching Jeff Co beat Carter last night 77 to 64.Yes the win was great for a Jeff team that I think hasny beat Carter in a long time. But it was morefun watching the HC and 1 player get technicals for mouthing at the refs.In the End, we were at 10 penalties each.
  15. Sure ! I will be good !! I will be an Eagles fan ! I sure hope i never see another fight on the field of play.We will see you at the games ! I might bring a cowbell....just so you know !!!
  16. CONGRATULATIONS to these players and families!!! Us Jeff County folks will get to see some DB Players on a regular basis.Carson Newman did indeed it the Jackpot.Jeff County has signed ONE so far at CN > Zach Kountz(DL),to go along with one from a couple years ago ,Christian Mcfall.
  17. It should be noted and applauded that ZACHARY KOUNTZ has signed to play for Carson Newman College ! Christian Mcfall is also at CN.Also finishing up his college FB career at CN is Micheal Manis. Others playing college FB include Jonathan Yeary (Jr) and Thomas Cook (fr) at the U of the Cumberlands KY , Dustin Whitt(JR) is playing at Emory and Henry.Congrats to all these young men!!! Keep up the good work!Im sure they will be a few more signees in the days and weeks ahead.
  18. Making myself clear>>>> I have been a 4 year supporter of Coach Anderson and he knows it.It should be clear to any JC FB fan that Coach A left the place alot better than when he found it .It is also well known that Coach A's High School and Collegiate record is awesome !! He is an example of smash-mouth/good ole boy/country toughness !!YES YES he did it his way and was successfull.I wish the County was full of guys like him,I wish he wasnt a rare example of an athlete.I wish that kind of toughness was in everyone that plays.BUT it is not!!You said yourself that 10 -15 guys were in the weight room(unsupervised) back in the ancient past. Why were they in there??? They were self MOTIVATED !!! THEY KNEW the value of strength and power ! They knew that being stronger would help them dominate on the field.ON one hand you say how so many were in the weight room / and on the other hand you say how it isnt needed to dominate.I GRANT you "Coach A " didnt need the weight room. But these other "mortal" players do.And again,I dont blame Coach A for our players not doing the needed work,Our players DO need to be self-motivated>>>>> JUST like they were in 87.
  19. On a further note;Based on personal weightlifting experiences..I have come up with the "1hour and 5 sec rule"In addition to the above mentioned and proven rules, and keeping in mind the old "No pain no gain" mantra.>>> IF each set is brought to pain (not injury) ...SECRET >>this pain only lasts 5 secs or less !! this is the muscle breakdown needed to build MORE and LARGER muscle.THIS is what is meant as going hard in the weight room. This is the sacrifice taught at top schools.this is the million dollar secret.this is why 3 very strong or even 1 very strong d-linman gave us such a fit these last few years.
  20. I'm at a loss to explain how ANYONE can berate what a player can do in the weight room!! Clearly some have never watched a college or pro game. There are about 4 senior football players being recruited to play college FB and about as many wrestlers. And who are these guys??? they are without a doubt THE TOP WEIGHTLIFTERS in the school!! I will grant you that technique and speed/quickness and flexibility are very important,But these are all things that weightlifting/strengh training do massively improve. It is that "weightlifting isnt that important" midset that kept nearly All of our lineman out of the gym for the last several years.Go back and watch FILM.WE have rarely dominated a snap in over 2 years.Yeah I know they wernt the tallest or the heaviest players in the state, but they were not even close to being the strongest on the team!!This "attitude" of "weightlifting isnt important" or will get a player all "muscleup up" is MISINFORMED at the very least.A player that wants to dominate ! aplayer that wants to be the very best HE can be...WILL BE in the weight room 5 days a week/for a hour/going hard/correctly/good nutrition/proper rest/dynamic stretching before /static stretching after/and weiders' principle of muscle confusion...........If this wasnt important you wouldnt see weight rooms(massive million dollar facilities)at the collegiate level! Further, on a medical standpoint ...these young men also have a "hormonal window" from ABOUT 15yo to about 22 yo,,,,during this window they can create a huge amount of muscle/strengh/size.I see NO reson to not take advantage of this FACT at the High School level. It would help us win and it would help more of our kids get College opportunities!!! Go back and check the weightlifting numbers of the 87 team!!!Lets try that weightlifting/plyo intesity and see how far we can go again!
  21. ON a FUNNY note that Might hit home? and just for us JC folks...haha...WE got Jeff city that thinks they are smarter than everybody...We got Dandridge that thinks they are better than everybody....We got White Pine thats angry as heck,,,,Rush Strong area feels left out,,,,and Talbott that has a split personality.Question ??? Could the man himself ( GQ) fix this mess??? has anyone ever wondered why he hasnt come home???
  22. Your right Pummelking ! For those outside the county ,We have 5 cities playing English Mountain Football. They are Jeff city/dandridge/talbott/white pine/rush strong. They each have 3 levels of play with b teams. In addition 4 middle schools who would have varsity and JV.Thats 38 teams FULL OF KIDS THAT WE WOULD HOPE would want to put on the Patriot uniform someday. We have got to talk them up early/support their programs! recognize their players both as a team and as individual players!! Maybe some free tickets to FRIDAY night games for those players and coaches.Maybe a visit to their schools by the HS players/coaches!!Maybe sideline/or pressbox/or lockeroom passes for the top players?I have seen the small schools/communities play! there is plentyof talent in the pipeline! If our talent and enthusiasm can be Properly encouraged and eventually molded in the WEIGHT ROOM ther is no telling where we can go!
  23. My take is that it could go either way.The new AD and the Principal are a HUGE unknown.WE already know that the School Boar and the County Comm are crooks at worst and incompetent at the least. With large amounts of money lost,How can we hope to spend the money necessary to put the school on a successful path.1 GREAT hire will not be enough,He will need resources and assistants to fully get the job done.My question ? Are we looking for a coaching upgrade or are we looking to build a dynasty?I hope its the latter.I hope this fractured County can all get on board and help build another great Football Team and with it a great school.WE SHALL see pretty soon.
  24. I also heard Hammondtree has applied.I was told that apllications will be taken til the end of the month.
  25. AD an HC are no longer in these positions> iguess the long process of applications and interviews has begun.WAIT we do have a NEW AD !!! man that was fast!!! best man got the job? or best friend ? Another example of JC cronyism!!!!!!! Prospective Head Coaches be aware .
