  2. I'm attempting to gather support to have the TSSAA Wrestling State Championships moved from it's current venue. Whether it winds up in Nashville, Memphis or Chattanooga isn't important to me. I don't want to fight over that. What is important to me is for the kids to be able to participate in this prestigious event in a respectable facility. I welcome all ideas, opinions and input. Of course you can post things here, but my contact information is as follows: Facebook (best source for me) - Ben Reichel Email: ben.reichel@yahoo.com Phone - 423-432-2514 Here are some current issues and/or information I will need (I'm attempting to gather these things on my own, but obviously anyones help is a huge plus) 1) If we keep all divisions together, the facility will need to hold 12 mats 2) I need financial information. This includes a) How much the TSSAA currently takes in for this event b How much the TSSAA currently pays out for this event c) The cost of prospective venues 3) Contacts with people at prospective venues 4) Contacts with the Chamber of Commerce in proposed locations 5) Ideas to offset costs. This may include a) A small increase in ticket prices b A small increase in weight management fees for wrestlers c) Donations So far in 30 minutes I've managed to get 4 very influential people on board. Please help.
  3. I'm on board. 100%. Let us come together and get it moved. I'll start a campaign. If you want to try and help please send me a facebook request. Since nobody seems to want to do anything I'll at least try. I'll need a lot of help. Ben Reichel
  4. Truly a first class guy. It will be hard to replace his passion for his athletes and the sport. Artie, you will be missed. Hope you won't be a stranger.
  5. I believe Region A-AA is bringing up a proposal at the state meeting Saturday morning. But the entire community should be getting behind it. A newspaper article about the skin infection issue would be a fantastic start.
  6. Please excuse my ignorance Mike. Are we talking about restrictions from the Tmssaa or the restrictions from HCAC? The HCAC (to my knowledge) has always had restrictions about competing in other events during their short season (Christmas - mid march). I can understand this because of some parents wanting to pull their kids from in season competition to compete in other events. This puts kids and coaches in the middle of a possible dilemma (missing team competitions to pursue individual tournaments). I've got to admit I'm completely unfamiliar with Tmssaa restrictions other than not allowing Tmssaa coaches to run practice in the offseason (much like the soon to be abolished TSSAA restrictions)
  7. My son wrestled for the HCAC for 3 years. He enjoyed the experience and so did I. Did he get better? A little. But most importantly, he enjoyed it. I realized that he was only 12, 13 and 14 years old. I realize there's still lots of life left for pressure. One reason the rules are as they are is to allow kids to try multiple sports. One can play football, basketball, wrestle and baseball. Now they will have an idea if they want to specialize in high school. Believe it or not, there is more to life other than wrestling. We're talking about 12, 13 and 14 year olds. Perhaps many are meant to be touring the country from tournament to tournament to satisfy dad's thirst. But not all. Many just want to wrestle and enjoy it. Upon completion of the HCAC season my son got 3 months of freestyle and Greco. That left July - December to train 'offseason'. There's plenty of opportunities to get better. I wasn't worried about him missing important events (if there is such a thing at that age). Tom Brands and Mark Schwab both have kids that wrestle. They wrestle with dad at home on the couch. Both are adamant about their sons not starting too early. But again, all kids are different.
  8. No. Comeaux isn't related. He was runner up in the HCAC in 2012 under coach Wolf. He placed 2nd in the USA SE Nationals in ATL this past spring. He has a younger brother and an older brother who won the HCAC in 2011 but chose not to wrestle in high school.
  9. 9 teams already fully committed. Please let me or coach Turner if you'd like in. Thanks
  10. yes. Maybe eventually MS Josh, but probably next year, especially with the new Middle School right next door.
  11. Entry fee $10 per wrestler. Enter as many wrestlers per weight class as you'd like.

  13. Red Bank high school is looking for a moderate tournament in Tennessee or North Georgia Saturday 1/11/2014. Would prefer tournament format, not duals. Please let me know ben.reichel@yahoo.com or 423-432-2514. Thanks
  14. Coaches, mark your schedules now for the 2013 Red Bank Preseason Open, November 16, 2013. Keep in mind it's preseason so it doesn't count against competition dates. Teams from Kentucky and Georgia have previously participated as well as teams from Memphis, Nashville, Clarksville, Knoxville and Chattanooga. You can enter as many as you like per weight class. Honor weigh ins with weight management on site. Email or call with any questions. Ben.reichel@yahoo.com. 423-432-2514.
  15. "The funny thing is they turn around and compare us to states like Ohio and other wrestling powerhouses. We are Tennessee, we have barley over 100 schools that wrestle and less than 1/3 of those care anything about wrestling" If Ohio followed our mold, they'd have minimum of 6 divisions and Pennsylvania a minimum of 10. Actually, I stand corrected - we now have THREE divisions (I almost forgot). That means Ohio would have 9 divisions (at least) and Pennsylvania a minimum of 15 divisions.
  16. Yes, 170 was pretty loaded. Great match between Dickerson and Crane. No team tally's as it was preseason. Because it was an "open", some teams brought 25 kids and some had 8. It was very well balanced with no one seeming to dominate.

  18. When a program drops the TSSAA rules state they have to wait 5 years before being able to Coop. It's my understanding that McMinn Central and McMinn County appealed this rule but they were obviously denied. Apparently there was precedent set a few years back when the same thing happened to a school(s) in Nashville.
  19. Coaches please let me know if you don't see your team listed. Thank you.
