Maryville High School is hosting an individual varsity tournament next season on Saturday January 6th, 2018 and we are looking to add some more teams. Tournament format will be a 16-man bracket with 4 pools of 4 and the top two wrestlers in each pool advancing to place 1st-8th. The tournament will be ran on TrackWrestling with statistics included. We currently have close to 60 wrestlers registered. I have extended the registration until friday evening in hopes of adding more wrestlers. Currently we have from wrestlers raning from 60lb 6th grader to 202lb 11th grader and everything in between. Its not too late to register. We are gonna run 4 mats so it should be an fast pace day.

I will using trackwrestling to group the wrestlers by weight and rank. Divisions will be combined to make full round robins when necessary. The program also tries to separate guys from the same team, so have everyone from you club use the exact same team name to make this easier. Coaches are welcome to attend the scratch meeting and help me finalize the pairings before we print the the brackets.

Freestyle and Greco Round Robin Tournament
DATE & TIME: Saturday April 23, 2016, Check-in/Scratch by 9:30AM Greco Starts at 10:00AM. Freestyle Tournament will begin at the conclusion of Greco Tournament.
LOCATION: Maryville High School 825 Lawrence Avenue Maryville, TN 37803
WEIGH-INS & RANK: Satellite Weigh-ins will be done at practice by club coaches. Enter your exact weight on trackwrestling when you register. Enter rank 1-5, 1-state placer, 5-weak beginner.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT:
Four Man Round Robin Brackets for both Freestyle and Greco. Groups will be formed by weight and rank entered on trackwrestling online registration.
REGISTRATION: Register online at unapproved website Registration closes Thursday April 21 at 11:00PM CT. You will need to register online for both the Freestyle and Greco tournaments. NO WALK-UPS AND NO PAYING AT THE DOOR.
ENTRY FEE: $15 for one or both styles.
INSURANCE: Each participant must have a valid USA Wrestling card. You will need to card in order to register on trackwrestling. purchase at www.themat.com
DIVISIONS AND WEIGHT CLASSES:
NOVICE (2004-2005), SCHOOLBOY (2002-2003), CADET (2000-2001), JUNIOR (9/1/1996 & AFTER, PLUS ENROLLED IN GRADES 9-12). No weight classes, Wrestlers will be grouped by weight and rank. *Divisions and weights will be combined when necessary to make full brackets.

Format: Everyone gets at least 4 matches. 4 Pools of 4 teams, then wrestle at least one match out of pool. Top 4 will wrestle a semifinal and then finals for a total of 5 matches. We run 6 mats and move quickly. In 2011, the bottom 12 teams were done wrestling by 3pm. The finalaround for the top 4 teams was concluded by 4:30pm.
Team Awards: Plaques for Top 4 teams.
Entry fee : $125 payable to "Seymour Wrestling"
*Each Team needs to supply 1 table worker for each Dual.
Admission: $ 8.00 adults, $ 4.00 students per day. Under 5yrs old free.
There will be wrestler friendly concessions no large coolers.
Early Weigh-in 7:00am for ACT takers. If you have any, have them sign-up to take it at King’s Academy across the street.

Blake Ridenour Former Tennessee State champion from Maryville High School just advanced to the semi finals of the NCAA div II wrestling championships and secured his All American honors. 36 wrestlers last night at practice. Several state qualifiers and a few state medalist were in the room. Impressive turnout especially since its spring break in knox county. Its not too late to join in. Cody hopes to add some more driven guys looking to get better this spring.
I read this article this morning about NCAA National Champion David Taylor of Penn State. He is the 2012 Hodge Trophy winner - essentially the Heisman of Wrestling. Check out the sacrifices he and his family made to get better long before he made it to Penn State.
"David has been relentless about improving and seeking out the best coaching and competition ever since. Taylor and his dad would frequently drive an hour and a half one direction a couple times a week after school and on weekends for club practices or for extra weight-training sessions. The Taylor family, including sister Alex, 19, made all kinds of trips around the country for David’s tournaments. David said his family and their sacrifices is a big reason for his success."

Cordova won the Eagle Challenge at Seymour High School Saturday with a 48-30 win over Wayne County KY. Heritage High won the Consolation Finals 41-39 over Stone Memorial.

Seymour will be hosting the following tournaments in 2011.
Saturday June 4th - High School Round Robin rising 8th graders included. Weigh in at 8am. Wrestle at 10am. No weight classes, wrestlers will be grouped in 3-5 man round robins. $5 a wrestler and they must have parent signed release form.
Saturday December 10th - Eagle Challenge, High School Dual Tournament. Guaranteed 4 matches. $125 entry fee.
2010 teams where - Stone Memorial, Heritage, William Blount, South Doyle, Seymour, Powell, Catholic, Webb, Sevier County, Greeneville. Our gym is being expanded this year, and we will have room for more mats. We are looking to expand to a 16 team field.

Id like to see what regions could look like if we divided all 150 Division 1 teams evenly into 75 teams in AAA and 75 teams in A-AA. Every other sport got this type of distribution by the TSSAA last time they classified except wrestling. Our distribution was based on basketball numbers.
