I have enjoyed and laughed at posts on CoachT for a long time. I finally decided to add my opinion to the discussion. My kids have already graduated from Halls. I did not go to Halls. I have an interest in softball, baseball, track, basketball and football. These were the sports my kids played.
1. I found it to be true that stadium club meetings are never well attended unless they are held in conjuction with a scrmmage or a game. The board and a few other parents usually do most of the work. However, their were always workers ready to work the concession stand, with few exceptions, when I was there. The hoops club didn't have as many meetings and usually the meetings were better attended when "something was up" like a new coach or something like that.
2. Coach Julian had and has every right to explore better options for himself and his family and players should not take it personal if he does this. Many of those players have not been "loyal" to Halls from their youth up so they really have no leg to stand on if they are mad. Evidently, this has become standard behavior. Besides, many coaches explore the market. George Quarles has done this (UT and others) along with Pemberton and others. The coaching carousel has made its way from the NFL, through college and now to the high school ranks. The amount of money is only part of the issue. How much coaching, how much teaching, how much help you get, how much mowing you have to do, and other variables are all part of the equation.
3. A team can be successful running any offesive scheme IF it executes. If a team can block the scheme, it will get plenty of yards and points. I know many enjoy passing, but passing creates more chances of failure as well as chances for quicker scores. If Halls chooses to stay with the Wing or go to the veer, or I formation or anything else, it will have to win the battle up front while having backs willing and able to hit the hole. I also think you have to have balance in order to keep the defense defending the enire field and not just the line of scrimmage. Halls has to be able to pass some in order to keep teams from loading the box. But Halls can do this in the wing. I think Halls became very predictable last year and it hurt. It seemed we ran the same 2 or 3 plays more than anything else. Maybe that is just the nature of the Wing, but I was more dissapointed to see the "Jet" play or the little inside reverse play ran during every clutch situation. It was very predictable to me anyway. I only know the name of the Jet play because the opposing coaches were screaming its name from atop our press box right before we ran it, every time we ran it like they knew it was coming.
4. I thought the R&W game was OK. It was exciting at times and competitive. Offensively, I thought the Red team lined up in many different offensive formations than did the white. Both teams played well and the starting quarterbacks both made some good passes and did not throw interceptions. The recievers all caught the ball pretty good except for one drop. I didn't get a roster so I don't know the all the names but running backs ran hard even though there were too many fumbles. The FB's ran hard and the O-line and FB appeared to protect the QB's better than last year. Defensively, there were not many big plays. A couple of same names kept getting called for tackles but I can't remember them now. Overall, it was fun to watch, but I would have learned more about our team if they would have gotten to scrimmage last Friday.
Sorry for the long post, but it was my first and I had a lot to say.
