  1. Wsttnballer, I do not know personally of a player who was recruited by ECS. But if there has ever been a player offered an "Academic Scholarship" to that school and the kid just happens to be a good athlete, I would be very suspect. I am sure some public schools have stepped outside the bounds to get a kid to play for their program. A major difference in the private schools recruiting is some of these coaches are getting pretty brazen about it and it involves tens of thousands of dollars. I read an email from a friend from Jason Smith, sports prep writer for the comm appeal and he state that the recruiting by the private schools is getting out of control. I have personally witnessed it. If ECS does not or never has done it, my hat of to you, it shows integrity!!!! Recruiting is wrong no matter how you slice it public or private and should be dealt with.

  2. There is not much honor in what MUS, CBHS,ECS, or any other of these Private schools do with all the recruiting they are involved in. If I could open a school to anyone and offer scholarships to exceptional athletes I would have a great team also.

I have to disagree about MUS. If they recruit they are doing a pretty bad job of it. especially when there whole defense is a bunch of white kids who average 5'10 in height(by the way they held Millington to 0 points)

Trust me, (or not) they recruit. If a coach can pick one or two players that are exceptional athletes, it can change the whole makeup of a team and what they do or do not run. That plus a good coaching staff can create a lot of wins. (I like the subtle poke at the Miilington Trojans)

  3. I think all west Tn. teams may be down this year. You have Whitehaven, Whitestation, and CBHS, all beating each other by healthy margins, several very questionable teams still in the dandy dozen, and some teams that are getting romped by everybody. There is no clear dominate team rising to the top. (I dont consider the private schools...too many "Academic Scholarships" out there. Taints the whole program.)

  4. Dou and Robm, you both make some great points. Best players need to be on the field and rest them with the backups, some of whom are pretty talented. I hope practices are taken a little bit more serious this week as it looks to be pretty wet again. This sport doesnt stop because of rain..... We have played some weak teams who have at times have had some flashes of greatness in some of their games but overall weak. This friday nights game will be a tell tell of where we are now...if we beat CBHS we will start getting some attention to our boys again. If we dont, we will be just the better team in a weak region.

The coaches need to make sure the boys dont have the "Private School" syndrome in their head. If they are properly prepared this week, we should win this one.

  5. The big problem with that is everybody (including T$$AA) knows what they are doing. It is so obvious...but hey if you have councilmans kids, big business owners kids, lawyers kids all going to these schools I guess the T$$AA should be afraid to pursue it.

If I was a coach at a city or county school I would refuse to play them.

It is CHEATING and show a lack of INTEGRITY.

  6. I hope we see a better game by our Trojans next year. Sloppy play by us. We should be sharper by now. We are 4 games into the season and still looking flat and making mistakes that should be worked out by now. Too much experience to be playing like that..Come on coach....

WOW.. negative so negative,,, I didn't think it was so bad for a team that only had a day and a half of practice last week and besides I ask you to try and find all the penalties that were called on us.. was it sloppy play or sloppy officials? Either way WE ARE THE TROJANS.. BELIEVE MAN BELIEVE...

Mokie, do you think the Trojans looked sharp Friday night? We are four games into the season with about 14 returning starters and we had one good game (Bartlett). A day and a half practice was what I think hurt us. They needed to practice last Monday. Besides they have been practicing since August. It was bad officiating, I agree. We also did not look good in our play. We didnt score a point in the whole second half against a team that is rebuilding. Defense did great although.

Some people take criticism to be negatism. Not the same thing. I am fully committed to the Trojans as I have my own blood on the field...I also feel that you do everything in your power to make your team better. Whatever it takes, go the extra mile, do a few extra drills, practice a little more intensely. Bust a player out if they screw up and show them how to do it right, then when they do praise them profusely, pat them on the back and tell em good job!

I think we do have some coaching issues....hard to ignore some of the things that has happened the past few years in play calling and personell changes. I just feel we should be better by now with our experience.

I do believe, but you have to put those beliefs to proper action and I promise you will see results and everybodys belief goes through the roof!!

Final word.....family can squabble and disagree, but I hate it when an outsider comes over and trys to talk trash. Stay on the Mill-REHS thread.

  7. Hey guys, dont beat around the bush. Most of the private schools in west tn and Im sure the rest of the state recruit players. It is not really a secret. I have personally witnessed it being done. It has gotten really bad and the coaches from the private schools have gotten brazen about it because no one says anything about it or challenges it. Big money is involved in tuitions, thousands of dollars. They use the disguise that they are offering an "academic scholarship" to provide a kid a good education who maybe was not able to afford it. The kicker is the kid always seems to be an exceptional athelte (go figure). It hurts the community where the athlete is coming from (taking one of their players) and it hurts the team they are playing because it creates a distinct advantage for the recruiting school. If a kid is a good athlete he will get attention from the colleges with help from his coach (if the coach is worth his salt) and his parents. These colleges are constantly on the hunt for players. The coaches for the private schools are paid salaries well above public schools coaches and they must produce or chance losing their job (sounds like college doesnt it?)I know some public schools do it also but not on the same scale as the private schools and not involving tens of thousands of dollars in tuitions.

Recruiting players in High School is not right....

  8. I would love to see some of the hits tonight like we have seen in the last couple of years when we played Collierville....thumps that could be heard in the stands, helmets knocked off, one guy got hit so hard he puked after he got up. I have to give it to him though, he got back in the huddle. That kind of aggressiveness is what makes teams feared by other teams. Not to mention that it brings people to their feet with oooohs and ahhhs.

  9. Lost old dad, that is hilarious....but I could have sworn you were talking about MUS,Brentwood Academy, Ensworth, CBHS....you know, all those D2 schools. The only problem which really isnt a problem because they have been doing it for years is there is a huge money trail following their recruits in tuition. Tens of thousands of dollars depending on the yearly tuition and how long they were on scholarship for. It is not much of a secret it is being done in west TN. I guess it is hard to investigate when the city councilmans kid and the state reps kid and those lawyers kids go to those schools. Easier for the T$$AA to leave them alone. Too much power and money. Shamey, Shamey, Shamey...

  10. When a played is blowed down by the refs, a player picks up a loose ball after the whistle and runs it into the endzone and the refs signal a score....then decide ok we made a mistake, no touchdown but give bartlett the ball. I'm ok with keeping my first defense on the field. The players should not be the ones punished because of bad calls. Is your loyalty to the Trojans? Just curious..

Nevermind, I just found you on the Bartlett thread. Probably be good for you to focus on who Bartlett has this week and leave us M&M people to our fun

  11. It really wasnt a scuffle. A Millington player was keyed on pretty heavy during the game because Bartlett saw him give Olive Branch a rough time in the game film. The kid had several sacks and was in OB backfield all night. So Bartlett had some players keying on him which I would do also as a coach. The problem was he was getting held and cheap shotted (is that a word?) quite a bit and the refs were allowing it. I guess he had enough. That kid is a junior and he is one tough cookie.

  12. After reading all the opinions this morning from the pundits made on this thread from the past week I would have to say GO TROJANS!. It is good to know that the Trojan boys have something that the pundits (some, not all pundits) don't have and that is belief in themselves and their leadership ability. Millington had fumbles yes and the defense needs to work on the pass protection but they first had to beat the officials before they could beat the Panthers. The O and D stepped up for this game. I believe it was either Trader B or Cam6 said to forget pride you need to concentrate on improving and developing: I would say that any team without pride will never improve or development as that pride is the catalyst that drives the spirit of kid to want to improve or develop more each week. Last night at the viewing of the MUS and SP game the common point was that SP was faster, bigger and stronger than MUS. MUS won in the end because SP was out coached.

You are right!!!! The refs were a joke. The white hat was so ashamed after the first half he let someone else give it a try second half...and that cat didnt do any better!!!!! The discussion after the game with the coach was the ref's apologizing! (or should have been)

  13. Whoa....Don't get me wrong, nobody is putting down Munford. I simply am comparing this game to many of the college openers we saw Saturday, and that was mismatches galore. This game used to be the first of the year and it was what it was...a breather for us, a moneymaker for one school every other year, and something the communities could get revved up about. For years though, there has been no contest. Millington has come in, clearly established their superiority and by the second half, is playing their second and third teams. This forum topic "M & M Bowl "It's that time again" would lead one to believe this would be a "thriller"...A Georgia-Florida, an Alabama-LSU, a Texas-Oklahoma etc...You know and I know nothing could be further from the truth...More like a Tenn-W.Ky. There's nothing wrong with supporting your team...that's what is expected of you. However, again it is what it is... NO CONTEST!

You're not putting down Munford? What a joke. This will not be a blowout I guarantee it. Millington is not as good as they have been and Munford is better too. Millington was only up 14-7 on Bartlett at halftime. Don't let that happen against Munford because they will take advantage. If Millington turns over the ball like they did against Bartlett they might not come out of this one with a victory. Munford will be ready and I wish I knew who you are visionaire because I would love to hear your comments after the game. Munford may not win but they are better than you think and Millington is not the "almighty powerhouse" you think they are.

Do not be deceived, Millington may seem to have a chink in the Trojan armor and those chinks were put there by two extremely loaded teams.....but Millington DOMINATED Bartlett every quarter....they dominated the 1st and second quarter...the fumbles in the 2cd quarter will be fixed, thats what slowed the scoring roll down. The only score Bartlett had was due to a snap over the qb's head giving them the ball inside i think was the 15 and they did score. We dominated the whole second half also. I do think Munford is better coached this year and they will continue to improve with the new coach. I think he was a good hire. If the coaches have them ready as they were in the Bartlett game, fix the fumble situation, I think we will see the stands starting to clear early...I love this game!!!!!!

  14. I saw Bartlett in the jamboree and even though it is only 15 minutes they did not look good....also we scrimmaged Brighton earlier in the year and beat them fairley easily. Cam, you kinda make my point in that this group has only lost a couple of games in their whole high school career. True, they did play behind and with some great Sr.s who they should have learned to win from. Remember, we only had about 3 true starters return last year and were 11-1. This year we have anywhere from 12-14 of those guys who are now those Sr.s. (I'm not suggesting it is the kids fault)My biggest struggle is that we did not play like a team with that many SRs who has that much experience. That is part of the reason I feel that we should dominate this Friday! Maybe I'm missing something?

  15. See AP poll in todays comm appeal....Collierville, Brighton, Whitestation, and Whitehaven all received more votes than Millington. I know polls are educated guesses, but usually at least half the teams ranked in them are still there at end of season. I cannot state strongly enough, we need to win and win big this Friday. We need to make a statement... A poor win or squeking by Friday will only help us as far as a "W" which is always good but I would like to see domination which will instill a lot of confidence back into Millington!!!!
