  1. Actually, no. The tournament MUST be completed by the end of the week. If it did happen to rain the rest of the week, you would have to revert back to the final regular season placings. The TSSAA will NOT push the tournament schedule back a week. Everything in Memphis has been reserved for that week only. That is why the tournament must go on.

  2. The snatch and clean and jerk are not used around here because most of the coaches I have seen lack the knowledge to teach them properly. The technique required to do them correctly is much more involved than the squat and bench. Most coaches don't take the time to TEACH the lifts! It is easier to send them over to the bench where the technique is straightforward. To say that the olympic lifts don't develop the muscles needed for football borders somewhere between uninformed and stupidity. These lifts teach explosion with heavy weights which translates to stronger faster players. You cannot grind out a slow max on the snatch or C & J like you can with a bench, squat or deadlift. Last time I checked, you want a strong, fast , explosive player for football (or any other sport for that matter). The jerk is simply the push press whether with even feet or by splitting them where you put the bar over your head. Check out the MAJOR college programs. They are ALL doing them in some form. Someone tell me how the strength used for the deadlift comes into play in a football game. Doing the snatch and clean and jerk will give you the strength to deadlift your opponent after you put him on his can. ;)

  3. From Nashville, take I-65 south to the Franklin/Murfreesboro exit (Highway 96). Turn left and cross back over the interstate. Travel approximately 2.5 miles and the park is on the left between a Church of Christ and Trinity Elementary School. Look for a sign that says Trinity Park. Follow the entrance until the first right and follow around to the fast pitch fields.

From South of Nashville, take I-65 North to Highway 96 and go to the right. Good luck.

  4. I am having a hard time changing the mentality that has been here for a few years. I have kicked off several because practice was not a priority compared to going shopping with mom. I am down to 12 girls with one of those being injured. We are 4-6. If I can just survive this year and weed out the crap, I think we could be competitive. We lose too many players to magnets and privates right now since the program was in such bad shape. Hopefully, that will change. Congrats on the early success. Keep it up. By the way, we are expecting again so this will probably be my last travel ball summer. Cookeville this weekend. Tell the wife hi.

  5. Bigger, Faster, Stronger sells very high quality equipment, but it comes with a very high price tag. You don't have to be on their program to purchase. I have several items I bought from them for my home gym and have been very pleased. You will pay for the quality, though. If you contact Exercise Essentials in Nashville, ask for Matt Thomson and tell him his Mt. Juliet/Hillwood connection sent you. He will do his best to work within your situation. Fitness Systems in Brentwood has the Hammer Strength line if you are interested in the Ground Based Jammer for football and ask for former Vandy basketball player and MBA coach Mark Elliot. It really boils down to your budget. You can spend high on things that will outlast you at the school or you can take shortcuts to get by. Depends on your goals. Dynabody is probably your best bet in East Tennessee. I would, however, check out www.sorinex.com in South Carolina. I know he has set up at the UT clinic in the past. Great equipment. Built to last. Give me a yell Vols4me.

  6. Scott Ross went to high school with me. I believe he is looking for an alternative location for his business. I hear he is currently working out at the Gold's at Hickory Hollow. I will make a call and see if he is indeed putting any of his equipment up for sale and post yes or no. Vols-4me, what kind of pieces and price range do you have in mind for beautiful downtown Wartrace? We have priced just about everything there is. We are converting an old vocational room. 25 foot high ceilings. I guess you will be glad to get out of that portable. Will I be seeing you on the field on the weekends?

  7. As far as selling your old pieces, I would post on here and the TSSAA website the items you have available. As far as new stuff, it depends on your needs and your budget. Where are you located? I can point you to some reputable dealers, but you need to have a definite idea of your needs and price range. We are in the process of upgrading here as well and buying through school funds forces you to get three bids on everything. It has been a long process. Hopefully, it will pay off.

  8. 12ncs. For your information, Joe Behling did not even make the team at Hillwood until his senior year. He will tell you himself he was AWFUL in high school. He then redshirted and sat the bench another year before becoming an all-american during his true third year in college. To say he was the best at Hillwood is ridiculous.

LCPanther95, both Albert Ellison and Mike Rhodes were better HIGH SCHOOL players than Kirk Haston. Obviously, he has improved greatly since then, but he was in no way as good as either Rhodes at Perry County or Ellison at old Linden High.

While I am at it. McGavock High-Fred Harris and Charles Davis.

  9. Ego, the rule is for one calendar year. If their former team got put out in the district tournament last year (say on February 20th), then the transfer player becomes eligible on February 21st the next year. I have no idea who you are talking about, but I am sure this is what happened.

  10. Most letters are a VERY informal way of getting initial information about a player. Any large school will send out HUNDREDS of these letters a month. If a school contacts you (or your coach, depending on your age due to NCAA requirements) THEN you can feel they are truly interested in you. I have known guys on MANY occasions to receive upwards of 20-30 letters from the same school and never even be invited to walk-on. To think it is only all-state players is absurd. The large schools already have a pretty specific list of who they are looking at during the junior year so according to KevB you would at least have to be all-state twice. They actually look at a combination of factors including physical maturity (can his body hold more weight/strength), athletic ability (quickness, agility), and mental capabilities (can he handle the complexity of a college offensive/defensive scheme). They also hope the athlete has cleared the NCAA clearing house by that point. Sorry guy, actual recruiting at the big level is more involved than you think.
