  1. OSHS continues its dominance over Morgan County teams by defeating a very good single A Coalfield ( 3-1) team tonight. After a uncharacterisitc 1-9 rebuilding season last year, OSHS is back to its winning ways as it has beaten three quality opponents in Gatlinburg Pittman, Scott County, and now Coalfield to improve to 3-0. With East Tennessee powers Loudon and Alcoa at the end of the region slate, OS has a great opportunty to even play at a higher level and compete for a district championship should things fall into place as Roane County rivals Kingston and Rockwood are on deck.
  2. Good investigative work there champ! Don't quit your day job! LOL!
  3. "If memory serves me correctly, you (OS91) referred to Kayla Christopher as Kayla Brown, and last time I checked she has never been the assistant coach at Oliver Springs. A talented freshman on the high school team, but not yet old enough to help with Wright and his class program. Just to let you know, Kayla's mom is an assistant on the high school team and she might have been a Brown. As for the remark about OS dominating the Morgan County teams in football, there is nothing I can say to dispute that because that is the way it has been over the years." This is getting amusing. You are really searching now. I suggest you head to Partner's Pizza and order lunch and a contemplate a new approach to getting one up on me ( which will never happen). Again, what are my factual inaccuracies Mr. Sportswriter ( LOL)? Are you denying that Oliver SPrings has only lost to Wartburg and Coalfield 7 to 8 times all together and NEVER lost to Sunbright and Oakdale As Bad as the Coalfiled all time series is of 20-3 or so, Wartburgs is close to 50 wins for OSHS to only 5 losses. OUCH....... This is why you are boethered, right?
  4. What facts are inaccurate KingBrian? You once attempted to correct me when I used the last name Brown instead of Christopher when speaking of the OS Lady Cat assistant coach. You were so trigger happy in correcting me you didn't realize Assistant Coach of the Lady Bobcats Madien name was Brown as many in OS as many still refer to her as COach Brown. Her dad ( Coach Bill Brown) of course was an assistant boys basketball coach at OS during the late 80's and early 90's. That was pretty comical to see our little small town sports writer ( LOL) chime in and be so far in left field. I guess in all the real journalists ( that actually have a degeee in communications) majors in school and working ( for AP -Associated Press) I have known to be a little more familiar with the teams they cover. So, what are my factual inaccuracies? Maybe that you are just upset I would post OS's dominant record ( something like 90 plus wins versus only 7 defeats) over Morgan County schools. Anything else?
  5. Kids that live in OS city limits from Anderson County side have to pay a small tuition or get special persmisson to attend OSHS? Where do you get your information? Obviously you are very misinformed. Typically, half of Norwood students attend OSHS or Clinton. Its always been this way. Some years more go to Clinton and others more go to OSHS. There is no special permission needed or tuition paid by Anderson County students to attend Oliver Springs. All that is required is simply registering for class. Again, its always been. There is a lot of misinformation on this board. Lets attempt to post factual content. Thanks
  6. OS recruits from Marlow and Norwood? I didn't realize that allowing kids that live inside Oliver Springs city limits in Norwood to attend OSHS is recruiting. If OSHS received all its athletes from Norwood instead of losing them to Clinton and Oak Ridge and some KNoxville schools, it would be even more of a power than they already are. Additionally, OS loses its fair share of students in Roane COunty to other schools too, so making an comment that OS recruits is searching a bit. Some fo Clinton's and Oak Ridge's best athletes have been Norwood kids., yet you dont see OS crying. Also, Wartburg and OS have always had comparable student enrollments raning from 400 to 500 kids depending on the year. Overalll, OS dominates Morgan County schools.. While I agree Coailfied is a good single A program, using the excuse that OS is bigger , thus shoudl win shouldn't be applicable to this discussion. If you schedule the game, there should be no excuses. You don't see OS making excuses when it loses to Kingston that its enrollment is close to being double of OS. OS has never used that excuse and in the last 10 years has been on the same level as Kingston Football even with a considerable smaller student enrollment. Look at Alcoa when it plays Blount County Rivals William Blount and Heritage. Again, student enrollment isnt an applicable defense to OS domination of Morgan County football.
  7. OS will add to its dominant all time victory total to approximately 30 pus all time victories against the single A Jackets. I'm pretty certain Coalfield has only beaten OS two to three times all time with last year being a rare excpetion to the rule. OS has a similar record of close to 50 wins against Wartburg to only 5-6 losses all time against the Bulldogs. Historically, when Oliver Springs faces Morgan County teams , its almost always a Bobcat victory and gridiron mismatch. Last year's Yello Jacket win was an anomaly. Look for OS will start on another string of 6-8 wins against Coalfield as the Bobcat dominance continues against Morgan County teams. Look for the Bobcats to improve to 3-0 and get ready for pivitol regional matchups with Loudon and CAK approaching. Oliver Springs 28 Coalfield 14
  8. All of OS is pulling for the Lady Jackets in it's next three games. Good luck today.
  9. Coalfield is a Morgan County suburb of Oliver Springs. It's located 7 miles west from dowtown Oliver Springs and 11 miles west of Oak Ridge.
  10. Coalfield has played Oliver Springs twice this season and in years past. I doubt Peabody will intimidate the Lady Jackets. Coalfield has given OSHS plenty of good games in the past, so I don't beleive CHS is happy just making this tourney and most likely feel they can bring the trophy back to East Tennessee. Good Luck to the Lady Jackets In MBORO.
  11. Thanks Regal Her family bloodline is a special one that has a passioin for basketball. Her dad was a pretty good player at Norwood Junior high school too.
  12. Devil and others, I think you need to investigate the players Oliver Springs has waiting in the wings to replace the four starters. An eight grade class that went undefeated and won the East Tennessee Middle school champoionship will throw a couple more players to OSHS. Including in that group will be Fabulous Freshman Kayla Brown. This Middle school program didn't win 64 of their 65 games based on luck. Single A and others had better be ready.
  13. With winning over over 120 games, 4 Disctrict Champs, 3 sub states, 2 state tourney appeareances, and 1 semifinal game in the last four years, Oliver Springs's tradition rich basketball program takes a step down to Single A When you consider Oliver Spring's youth and Middle school talent, the following three years could easily become an encore or even better- State Championships. With Freshman and Sophomore players like Smith, Barger, Lankford, and others then you take into account a star in the making in Kayla Christopher who has led her middle school teams to a 66-1 record the last three seasons along with other great talent, and OS looks stacked for the next four years. Don't be surprised if OS wins 30 games the following 4 seasons. The Lady Cat program doesnt rebuild, it reloads.....
  14. Congratulations to Elizabethton!. You beat a very experienced and highly touted Lady Bobcat basektball team tonight that had won many battles like the one tonight, but was on the short end of the stick tonight and finishes the season at 30-5. After losing the firepower from last year, I doubt many would have expected OSHS to have the stellar season they did. With the young talaented freshman and sophomores and the amazing 8th middle school talent coming to OS next season, all of East Tennessee had better beware regardless of classifciation. Good luck to the Lady Cyclones in Mboro. Go there to win it all.
  15. William Bount should be in other team considered and possibly even 9th to 10th, but it would be hard to knock any other team out in their place. Gov, I have thought the same thing over the last couple of weeks with William Blount. Their record along with a victory or two over some of the top 10 teams in poll makes them 10 ten contenders and certainly among the area's best as teams like Wartburg and Coalfield make this list. That makes no sense. I think you need to take the entire season into consideration in regards to Oak Ridge in tank's argument. The Lady Wildcats lost at home to Campbell County and Powell earlier in the season. Certainly, #5 looks ok and fair enough looking at the Lady Cat's record ( 6 losses I believe) . considering how the Knoxville News Seninel seems to reward Powell ( even with their many losses early in year) on playing well winning 14 of last 15 or so and coming in 2nd place in the Greenville Christmas Tourney and playing Mt. Juliet ( top 5 in country)in championship game, the Sentinel overlooked Powells early season debacle of starting 2-7 and saw how it was tearing up the hardwood. It makes no sense based on this logic to still reward Powell and not allow Oak Ridge to move based on their wins over JC and Powell and especially with AE ( #3 in poll) losing to Anderson County. Austin East only dropping a spot or two after losing to Anderson County is suspicious. If the Lady Mavs can Beat #2( knox poll) AE and then lose by 20 to an Oliver Springs, what does that say for the #1 state ranked AA Lady Bobcats who have won something like 17 of their last 18 yet don't ascend in the polls is bewildering. There seems to be no method to the Sentinels Polling. Some teams are rewarded for playing well of late and forgiving their early season troubles, while Oak Ridge seems to be penalized for playing very tough schedule.
  16. Oliver Spring's schedule Clarkrange - Defending A state chams that demonstrated they can play with any AA and AA programs over the last couple years. Seymour- AA Semifinals two years ago and Final Eight last season. Possibly the best team in the Knoxville area last year and 8-5 this season. William Blount- 13-3 AAA team that beat Maryville who beat Oak Ridge Powell- playing the best basketball of any team in Knoxville area over the last three-four weeks . While it's not comparable to last season's schedule, without question these were very good games to schedule non-conference. Also, after reading some commments by certain posters in this thread whether on the coaching level or local media, you would think Oliver Spring's girls basektball only started four years ago and has no history of it's own. As this might come as a surprise, OS best season of basketball was in the 80's when it was state runner-up in AA. Also, OS has played in substates in the 80's and 90's and always had very good teams prior to the mid-90's almost EVERY year consistantly winning 18-24 games every season up until the 93-94 season I believe. Even between 94-99, OS had some very good talent in players like Kandi Duncan, Claire Mollision ( played at Charlotte), and others as some of those teams made the region which harldy something to bahsamed of and let alone dismal. While I agree, Todd Wright has been an amazing coach and OS fans should be thankfull for the success he has led OS to the last half decade. However, Todd Wright and all coaches at OS should be thankful for their positions as well. Oliver Springs has tremendous fan support and a very loyal & rabid fan base . I do think OS fans know how fortunate they are to have the coaches that represent our community.
  17. Oak Ridge lost to a below average Campbell County team on it's home floor and a Maryville team that lost to a good AAA William Blount Team team that Oliver Springs beat by 15. OS could easily play with Oak Ridge. That shouldn't be up for debate.
  18. It's very accurate that Oak Ridge in the past has nothing to gain ny playing Oliver Springs, but how can you state that in 2005 and beyond? Certainly a 15-1 Oliver Springs team versus a 11-6 Oak Ridge team that has already lost to less stellar programs than Oliver SPrings like Campbell County and Maryville would be an excellent matchup this season. Additionally, Oak Ridge has already played two AA programs in Upperman and previously mentioned Alcoa. OSHS was an AA semifinalist last season and has won close to 90 games the last three seasons with two state tourney appearences. I hardly see why Oliver Springs and the Lady Bobcat Program would even have to justify to ANY program a chance to at least compete, much less play. With the talent coming through OSMS ( undefeated last three regular seasons), talent in underclassment at OSHS, and 8th grade phenom Christopher this game should be scheduled at some point in the near future. If you look in Middle Tennessee, AAA powers like Shelbyville, Cookeville< White County, and others certainly don't have problems playing the best out of AA and even A .
  19. With Oliver Springs becoming one of the better programs in the state over the last four seasons, it makes zero sense why Oak Ridge won't schedule the Lady Cats for a regular season game. Oak Ridge plays AA programs such as Alcoa which hardlygenerates fan interest, so why not play Oliver Springs? Certainly, an OS-OR matchup would bring an overlfow crowd and major $$$$$$. As everyone knows, OS has one of the most loyal and large followings for a school of 450-500 kids. With the talent and teams OS is producing, this game should happen. The OS Middle School program has not lost a regular season game in three years. and has possibly the best 8th grader in the state in Chistopher on a OSMS team that is phenomenal this year.. With all that talent in middle school and uncdercalssment on the high school team, this is the perfect time to initiate a rivalry that should have already started 20 plus years ago. OS is building something special and has proven it's more than Laura Hall. There is no reason for Oak Ridge not to want to play this game. OS has proven it can compete and this game would be HUGe for the Anderson County area. Two cities that border each other with these good of programs should play.
  20. Qark I suggest you do a little research into the Oliver Springs's program before you state it was horrible before Coach Wright. OS from 1997-99 had some of their worst teams which a couple of them were close to being .500 ( if you call that horrible) with one season of four wins. Before that, OS has traditionally been one of the stronger AA programs in East Tennessee with State tounrey appearances ( State Runner up in 82) and Sub State Games in 89 and 90. and many region tournies. While OS has been very successful, OS has always had a very strong middle school program very talented players come through the high school. To state OS Gilrs program was horrible prior to four years ago is Inaccurate in a major way.
  21. Oak Ridge is the last program that needs to lecture on transfering players! Oliver Springs in the last twent years has lost numerous players to the Oak Ridge Program in all SPORTS. Many of those players were some of Oak Ridge's best athletes ever ( without naming names). What goes around comes around and if that old addage is accurate, Oliver Springs is still well short in this game. Additionally, Oliver Springs is ranked 4th in the Knoxville News Sentinel's area ranking. last time I looked at Oak Ridge's ranking it was not even in the top 10. Oak Ridge Fans don't need to cry foul ball as OS is not the only progam that has been hurt in the past by defections from their communities to Oak Ridge. those in glass houses shouldn't cast stones! Witht he amazing young talent coming through at OS and with additions, OS is building something VERY VERY special. Coach Todd Wright has the ship headed in a very good direction and will build on the last four years.
  22. Oliver Springs @ 10-1 is certainly a top 8 team. The state semifinalists from a year ago are loaded with new additions and young talent from a phenomenal middle school porgram. Their middle school program was undefeated 3 years ago, lost one game last season, and is 11-0 this year and hasn't even been close to being contested. With OS being to the state 2 of the last 3 years, the Lady Cats are truly building something very special.
  23. It's comical to see Coalfield even mentioned in the same breath in a top 10 in East Tennessee. A good single A school ( which Coalfield is, but not excpetional) can't compete with average AAAA and AAAAA schools. Powell, Halls, KNox Central, Alcoa, Maryville, Sevier County, William Blount, Fulton, Seymour, Lenior City, Morristown West, Austin East, Sweetwater, Rockwood, Catholic, Farragutt, Oak Ridge, Webb and Seveir COunty are TWENTY teams in the Knoxille area alone that are without QUESTION better than Coalfield from larger classiciations If you count upper East Tennessee and Chattanooga area as part of East Tennessee, then Coalfield is a top 40 maybe. Let's be Real people Coalfield is not a top 10 team in Knoxville Area, let alone in any East Tennessee poll. They are a good single A team this season, but lets not get carried away.
