The Lady Bees played against a very good Dekalb County team last night...and did a GREAT job!! With the most unfortunate injury to the Lady Bees pitcher...they have been left in a very difficult situation! But you couldn't tell that last night.
1st of all, we all feel so bad for Casey. She has worked really hard through the off-season on her pitching and it was definetly showing. She had improved so much from last year and was getting better and better with each game. We are so sorry for Casey and we definetly miss her presence on the field. But, of course, she is right there with the team, encouraging them and overlooking her loss of playing. She is a very special person and a great athlete!! Look out next year...SHE"LL BE BACK!!
Now, back to the game. Obviously, when you look at the score of the 1st game, it doesn't appear that the Lady Bees had their best game. They didn't in stats, but this was their best game as a TEAM. Most teams would have just laid down and quit in the position they are in. But, they did just the opposite. It was obvious that each player knew they had to step up and play their best game to make up for the loss of their pitcher. Their coaches showed great confidence in the team. Unfortunately, Upperman doesn't have another pitcher with any real experience. A few have pitched a little here and there, but nothing close to being experienced. Their pitcher in the 1st game showed so much character...she was put in some really "big shoes", and she did a great job! It was obvious the other team wasn't planning to swing the bats if they didn't have to. So many players were in positions that they weren't used to playing (because a lot of shuffling had to be done to come up with a pitcher). The second game of the double header was really different. It was obvious that Upperman was starting to adjust to all that has happened in the past week. The Lady Bees showed that they won't back down or give up no matter what they are handed. They will keep fighting and keep digging to do what they have to do. It will be an interesting season now...because every girl on the team will probably be pitching at some point.
Congratulations to the Lady Bees and to their coaches. They have shown great character in what they were dealt. Don't count them out!!! They seem to be on a mission of some kind!!!
