  1. There has been an unsolicited proposal made to a DII school by WTCI TV45 to live broadcast the private school system (DII) Tennessee State Wrestling Championship. Along with the three hour live broadcast, their proposal includes an live informational presentation of each competing school and promotions through their on-air broadcasting. It includes Pre-planning meetings, Pre-production, Set-up & Breakdown, Field production, On-site recording, and Broadcast; but, they will require on-air talent and on-air call-of-action for the matches and interviews. More details and pricing - Contact WTCI-TV-45 directly. John Mullin and Tim Manley did a wonderful job calling the DII State Finals last year. 2005 Sponsor(s) are needed and WTCI TV-45 has imposed a decision deadline of 2/5/05. Please contact Bob Williams or Kent Whitiker at WTCI TV-45 (423)629-0045 Jamey Smith 667-9783
  2. 140 was very balanced this year... Dix beats Smith in a close one point match in the Father Ryan semi's and then Meyers pins Dix in the finals... then Smith soundly defeats Meyers in the State Duals.... who wins... its anybodys guess.
  3. WVol, great idea !! Who is the most influencial small school DI coach out there to push this type of proposal / effort?
  4. WVol, I just want those "immature" and "trite" posters to know this, I' grateful for your strong, agressive opinions and your mature, intelligent, passionate posts that are free of bitterness. That's what this venue is all about. DEBATE not hate. Unfortunately, a public venue brings out the worst at times, especially when it's anonymous. I know of the wonderful things you have done for DI Central High School's wrestling program (rebuilding their wrestling practice room), coaching hundrds of Harrison/Central kids in the past 10 years in your kids wrestling club, refereeing for TN, supporting Goss's Chattanooga area kids wrestling league at your alma mater DI East Ridge etc, etc. My hope is that you will continue supporting all wrestling and inspire adults and kids alike to do the same. Most have a long way to go to fill your shoes. It's understandable why you so passionately support your son and his school. Your son is a fine young man, academically at the tops in his McCallie Junior class and one of the best wrestlers around. Being a McCallie student obviuosly puts a target on his back and a burden on your family's pocketbook. I don't always agree with you, but I for one am with you and congratulate you. Good luck to your son and the McCallie team this weekend. I'm sure by supporting you, it will bring your "venoumous following" out against me too !! Can't wait. Remember- DEBATE not hate
  5. Lovinit and 1moretime, Is there something in this thread that makes people immature or incapable of being cordial. What does it take for you two and and the others to discuss this subject intelligently? What if I turned it around and said Bradley 30 McCallie 26? Obviuosly there is no one interested in discussing even the thought of these two teams wrestling without bitterness. Too bad ... let it die.
  6. I'm going to ask one more time (with all due respect to all those that have had their feelings hurt) ... There has got to be more folks out there that would love to talk abot how these teams stack up.....Forget the possibility of them wrestling, the fun is in the discussion. Who would win? I'll start it off. AGAIN !! 103 White #3 vs. Tinsley #2 - Tinsley d (3) 112 Roberts #4 vs. Morris UR - Roberts pin (6) 119 Cleveland #2 vs. Cordell #1 - Cleveland d (3) 125 Silberman #1 vs. Fuller UR - Silberman tf (5) 130 Smith #2 vs. West #2 - Smith d (3) 135 Manley #1 vs. Baker #2 - Manley md (4) 140 Blair #1 vs. Creagan #1 - Blair d (3) 145 Scott #1 vs. Spain UR - Scott pin (6) 152 Connell #2 vs. Catlett #1 - Catlett d (3) 160 Levitt #4 vs. Gibson #1 - Gibson pin (6) 171 Lobbs UR vs. Blackmon #5 - Blackman tf (5) 189 Rudolph #3 vs. Cooper #1 - Cooper d (3) 215 Martin UR vs. Bailey UR - Bailey d (3) 275 Green UR vs. Grady UR - Grady d (3) McCallie 30 - Bradley 26 Just speculating, what do the rest of you think? What a match it would be !!!
  7. Bradley hates McCallie, McCallie hates Baylor, Baylor hates Bradley, Red Bank hates ....etc, etc. WHO CARES? My earlier post asked you all to have some fun and speculate who would win in each of the matches in a dual. Two great programs (this year, who cares about years past). Great competitive teams no doubt. How do they stack up? Anyone care to talk about the individual match-ups? Stengths - Weaknesses - etc.
  8. Regardless of whether they wrestle, the fun is in the discussion. Who would win? I'll start it off. 103 White #3 vs. Tinsley #2 - Tinsley d (3) 112 Roberts #4 vs. Morris UR - Roberts pin (6) 119 Cleveland #2 vs. Cordell #1 - Cleveland d (3) 125 Silberman #1 vs. Fuller UR - Silberman tf (5) 130 Smith #2 vs. West #2 - Smith d (3) 135 Manley #1 vs. Baker #2 - Manley md (4) 140 Blair #1 vs. Creagan #1 - Blair d (3) 145 Scott #1 vs. Spain UR - Scott pin (6) 152 Connell #2 vs. Catlett #1 - Catlett d (3) 160 Levitt #4 vs. Gibson #1 - Gibson pin (6) 171 Lobbs UR vs. Blackmon #5 - Blackman tf (5) 189 Rudolph #3 vs. Cooper #1 - Cooper d (3) 215 Martin UR vs. Bailey UR - Bailey d (3) 275 Green UR vs. Grady UR - Grady d (3) McCallie 30 - Bradley 26 Just speculating, what do the rest of you think? 9. I would be willing to bet that TSSAA would love to have a cut of the gate this type of event would bring in, as would Terry Brands. I suppose McCallie and Bradley would get nothing (money) from the event. Bradley wrestling supporters are members and support Chattanooga area and UTC wrestling and would love to see this match. Most of McCallie's coaches and a large number of parents are members of the Chattanooga Takedown Club and readily support Terry and Heath as well as other local wrestling events and organizations. Also, If you consider yourself the best, this is the best venue to prove it and do something great to support a common cause. Bradley and McCallie are the best as proven by their Dual Championship wins. I think there is an inherent resposibilty if your on top to do everything you can to use this to provide for others. I bet McCallie Coaching would support this cause as evidenced by their position that they would wrestle anyone-anytime. Will Bradley Coaching support it?? What would be the reason for Bradley not supporting it??? What do they have to lose??? Do they not think they would win??? How could someone not support this cause?? Please Bradley and McCallie- help make this happen.
  10. Thanks for posting the TVAC results wretle4life !! My hats off to all the competitors. Wish I was there.
  11. Mike and I spoke at length about putting the DII finals on TV. Mike and Mr. Jones are willing and able to support the production of the DII bradcast if the DII schools or a DII supporter will ante up. They will tape, edit and broadcast DII directly after the DI bradcast so there is no conflict. $10,000 sounds like a lot, but for two hours of TV time and all the work to create it, it's a deal. DII will also have to come up with their own announcer(s). It is improbable that the DII schools, like Baylor, McCallie, Father Ryan, MBA, CBHS and Notre Dame will take money out of their school budgets to finance the broadcast. DII will have to find person(s) with a love for the sport and the money to back it up (like Jones). So far, I'm clueless who that might be. Contrary to popular opinion, most DII wrestling supporters are not rich, at least not the ones I have know. If someone can find it in their heart and pocketbook to pay all or a portion of the DII broadcast let Mike Creagan know or feel free to contact Jamey Smith at jamey@bellsouth.net Its fair to question why Mike and Mr. Jones are not paying for both, but its their time and money and I commend them for their efforts and offering to support DII also. Unless you are willing to ante up yourself, leave it be. My hats off to both of them. It's a shame that some have to comment on Mike's hair style. For one, I'm jealous, I just wish I had hair !! Let it go guys !! Say something positive.
  12. Don't forget sophomore Andrew Smith (130) at McCallie. He beat Furman this year 10-8 in the McCallie Inv. semi's and gave Dunning a match in the finals losing 8-0. Dunning scored a quick takedown and two tilts for 8 in the first period and the next two periods went scoreless. Last time Smith and West met was Middle School when Smith was a 7th grader and West an 8th grader. They split 1-1 that year in two very close matches. Due to the McCallie-Bradley thaw, we will probably never see these two meet again. As a fresman last year, Smith made it to the DII finals to be walloped by Dunning. Look for this year's DII Final to be a repeat. Smith has a big hill to climb but nothing to lose.

    Walkenvol

I too happen to know that Walkenvol supports wrestling in many ways. He has coached kids wrestling for years and like Xbody said, spent hundreds of hours and funds of his own this last summer creating a wrestling room for a DI school. His son is at McCallie because he wants a top notch education for him. Naturally he wants what is best for his family. He and his wife work very hard and sacrifice to make it happen. I happen to enjoy Walkenvols's passionate talk and he backs it by walking the walk. He puts the boys first and foremost. DI or DII, it does not matter. Would it not be great if all our DI and DII coaches and TSSAA administators do the same? All of us should take it from Walkenvol and voice our ideas and quit the politics. Get out there and make it happen for the sport in general, creating a better environment for all. Enough bashing, and say something positive!!!!
  14. Thanks Walkenvol and RZRSOS. I too support the State Tournament broadcast and enthusiastic support by Alan Jones. I wish we were talking about the Top 10 Teams PERIOD without the D1/DII split. A combined State Torney is my wish and seemingly most everyone elses (maybe someday). Its a shame to see petty critisism of anyone supporting the sport. Maybe DII can find the funding to broadcast alongside D1 this year. Alan did give DII a chance to fund their finals also. I received a copy of the request sent to DII supporters. How about we all band together and make a comprehensive broadcast happen??? Who says the supporters have to be split??? I have coached boys in DI & DII and I'm happy to see any of them on TV. Remember, this is about them!!!
