White Co 0 - 7 - 0 = 0 points (1 game left) Thursday, Oct. 7 leaves Cookeville, White Co, Coffee Co, and Cumberland Co all playing but those games will not change the regular season standings. Congrats to Cookeville on winning the regular season district. As it is, White County will travel to Cumberland County for a play-in game to the distric tournament with the winner traveling to Cookeville to play. Coffee County can tie Warren County on points if they win Thursday night but in the head-to-head tie breaker, Warren County will still get second place. So, Coffee County will travel to Warren County for a first round game.

  3. Warren County beats Coffee County tonight 2 to 1. Anyone know the score of Cookeville and Cumberland Co? 1. Warren Co 4 - 2 - 1 = 13 points (1 game left) 2. 4. If this is not correct, someone please chime in. Based on points for W - L - T with district games left to play: 1. Coffee Co 4 - 0 - 1 = 13 points (3 games left) 2. Cookeville 4 - 1 - 0 = 12 points (3 games left) 3. Warren Co 3 - 2 - 1 = 10 points (2 games left) 4. Cumberland Co 2 - 4 - 0 = 6 points (2 games left) 5. White Co 0 - 6 - 0 = 0 points (2 games left)
  5. I have read this thread with interest and thought that it could be a good place to see what discussions for improving the game by improving the officiating could be suggested. I was hoping that the discussion would not become defensive and degenerate into becoming insulting and offensive. I am not an expert but have loved this game for nearly 45 years as a player, coach, and ref. I have seen many changes to the game and the rules during that time with an eye on improving the game. That said, I am always still looking at ways to improve myself and make sure that I do not have a negative impact on the game. Also, I watch other refs and try to learn the best practices from them. Should FIFA use post situation electronics to make decisions and if so how that can be done without imposing unduly upon the flow of the game will take better brains that I have. However, FIFA has referred to video replay after games to make judgments on situations. When Tab Ramos of the U.S. was elbowed deliberately to the forehead by a Brazilian player his skull was fractured. The Brazilian player was red carded in the game. After the game, FIFA reviewed the video replay and issued further sanctions against the player. In a qualifying match (I think the year was '93), a keeper who had caught the ball and cleared players from the box was standing with the ball held palms up in one hand while waving at his players with the other hand shouting instructions. An opposing player struck the ball from behind with his forehead while in the hand of the keeper knocking it loose. He then won the ball on the ground and shot it into the goal. The ref allowed the goal. It was the winning goal. The keeper's team protested that the keeper was standing there holding the ball and in possession and the striker did not have a right to knock the ball away from him. FIFA reviewed the video of the game and upheld the decision of the ref in the game. The ruling was that the keeper, even though he was holding the ball in one hand was not in possession of the ball because there were not two points of contact with the ball. So, can video be used? Yes, but the instances that I know of have been post game situations.
  6. TSSAA has a bulletin board that schools post coaching opportunities to. Here is the link to the board and you can scroll through the page to see the soccer openings. Not all schools post openings to the bullentin board but at least you can catch the ones that do. Good luck! http://www.tssaa.org/newspages/classifieds.cfm
  7. Good update. So, TSSAA changes the rules for post season play with a game suspension. That is a break fo LaVergne and the fair thing to do.
  8. Did they finish the Riverdale and LaVergne game last night? If not, that is a shame for LaVergne after scoring a goal because the game will have to start all over again from scratch at 0 to 0.
  9. I understand that he was released from Vanderbilt before midnight last night. Don't know anything else about his condition at this point in time. It must have been a real hard shot because I have reffed with Butch and I have seen him take a hard shot before.
  10. Points, standings, and scenarios vis 7 AAA By Laws: Riverdale 4 - 0 - 1 = 13 points (1st Place) LaVergne 4 - 1 - 0 = 12 points (2nd Place) Siegel 2 - 1 - 1 = 7 points (3rd place and 4th place are still up for grabs) Oakland 1 - 2 - 1 = 4 points (still has a chance for 3rd but can do not worse than 4th) Blackman 1 - 3 - 1 = 4 points (5th place - they cannot pass Oakland via the tie breaker rules) Smyrna 0 - 5 - 0 = 0 points (6th place) Here are the scenarios and explanations. If Siegel beats Oakland, they will be in 3rd with 10 points and Oakland 4th with 4 points. The reason Oakland gets 4th over Blackman is based on the tie breaker rules. The first tie breaker is head-to-head. Oakland and Blackman tied in regular season. The next tie breaker is how they did against the top seeded team -- in this case, Riverdale. Oakland lost 2 to 1 and Blackman lost 5 to 1. Since Oakland did better against Riverdale, they would be seeded ahead of Blackman via the tie breaker system. The next scenario is if Oakland beats Siegel they would have 7 points and be tied with Siegel on points but would be seeded ahead of them by virtue of the tie breaker system having beat them in head-to-head competition during the regular season. Oakland would then be seeded 3rd and Siegel 4th. The final scenario is if Oakland and Siegel tie. In that case Siegel would have 8 points and be seeded 3rd and Oakland 5 points and seeded 4th. The only thing the district is waiting on for the seeding is the game between Oakland and Siegel. Good luck to everyone and have fun.
  11. This is what I can put together of the district standings so far. If these records are not correct, let me know and I will fix them. But here are the points so far based on the 3 point for a win, 1 point for a tie, and of course 0 for a loss. Cookeville 5 - 0 - 0 = 15 points Coffee County 3 - 1 - 1 = 10 points Warren County 1 - 2 - 2 = 5 points White County 0 - 2 - 5 = 5 points Cumberland County 0 - 4 - 2 = 2 points Coming down to the close of the season. Everyone keep playing hard, have fun, and good luck the rest of the way!
  12. Warren Co 1 and White Co 1 What is up with the ties? The State should allow for district games to be played to a win.
  13. Warren County 5 and Cumberland County 1
  14. Warren County at Cumberland County on Mar. 25th. Both teams are equal on paper: both lost to Cookeville by 7 goals and both tied White County 1 to 1. Does anyone know anything about both teams to see where one has an advantage over the other? Or is this another tie game in the district?
  15. Warren County 1 and White County 1
  16. I agree with the assessment on Cookeville. It is their district to own this year. It looks like Coffee County and White County will battle it out for the 2nd and 3rd spot and Cumerland County and Warren County will battle it out for the 4th and 5th slots.
  17. I had an enjoyable morning at the Coffee County Play Day. Called six games and neither of us had to hand out any cards. Could talk to the players and they had the respect to listen and move on. That makes for a good day on the pitch. Thanks. Some side notes: I thought that I saw the best team that White County has put together. They played with more balance and purpose then I have seen from them before and showed good improvement from the past. Coffee County is well coached and will be tough in their district. Shelbyville has good tallent and today gave them a chance to knock off some rust. Webb is going to be very strong in their division if they can avoid injuries. Good luck to everyone on their season. Now, if I can just relax a bit with my guitar and learn some more of the Gov't Mule song "Railroad Boy" I was working on earlier.
  18. You are right 14pioneers. They had a game that turned heads at least mine tonight when they lost at home against Cumberland County in the play in game to the district tournament. What in the world happened? Cumberland County had not won a single game in the district all season long. I was looking past this game and to the tournament. Oh well, there is always next year.
  19. I thought they would be able to beat Tullahoma at home. When they were in Tullahoma and lost, they had a 7 point lead with two minutes to go vanish. I did not think they would have that kind of melt down at the end before their home crowd.
  20. I know that the girls lost tonight to Coffee County but does anyone know the score?
  21. Lincoln County 57 and Tullahoma 13 ???? Is this correct? What in the Sam Hill happened? This is crazy.
  22. JC will definitely be there and should be the odds on favorite to win it.... again! Skys they limit for Warren Co. though. Back in the early 90's JC was everybody's doormat but once Coach Brown took over all that changed! So a good coach and having the kids and the parents buy into what he is teaching will do wonders for a program. Good luck to WC the rest of the way! This likely is what Whitey was looking for. Can say, realistically, the schedule did not duck anyone and is agressive which is a plus. IMO, it is a barometer of where WC wants to go and is going to go.. MTSF's next to the last sentence has good insight and the last sentence reflects the interest and support of many long standing fans I always appreciate your insightful and positive comments. Yet, I was hoping that some of the folks with Warren County and especially from inside the program would give some insight into how things are progressing. At least some of the fans that have been able to attend some of the games and see the team and their new coach. Right now, Lord willing and the creek don't rise, it looks like my schedule is going to be clear to let me attend the game on the 8th and I am looking forward to seeing the team.
  23. How are the ladies looking so far? I talked with one of the parents before the season and he said that his daughter was excited about the team. I know they have not won a game from looking at the record on CoachT, but are they improving? I am going to try to get to one of the games next week and would like to know everyone's impression of the changes now that they have several games under their belts.
  24. The only way to overcome "disparity" is to implement a level system of play between teams like the pro levels in europe where teams are "promoted" and "relegated" based on their ability to compete. However, that is impractical in High School soccer because of the travel that would be involved for these teams to play. After all, these are High School students whose main job is to get an education and soccer is an "extracurricular activity" instead of being professional athletes who spend their time playing soccer.
  25. Has anyone heard anything about a decision for Warren County to travel to White County for the play in game because Warren County had more losses? If this is true, who came up with that silly way of deciding seeding? The 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 for a loss has been the method for determining tournament seeding according to the district by laws that White County, Cookeville, and Warren County came from. Sounds like some baseball coach has invaded the soccer community as a coach.
