  1. Upon further review....just updated on the DNJ. Link below. http://www.dnj.com/article/20081209/SPORTS...005/1006/SPORTS
  2. Any details as to the rationale behind the decision? It just doesn't make sense for a coach to leave a program that he and his family "loved" for so many years to be in a christian environment with his children, only to leave after 4.5 months for yet another school.
  3. Wow. From the outside looking in, this seems like a slap in the face to not only MTCS, but to Smyrna as well...
  4. He quit? No way. Why would he leave Smyrna to go somewhere for one year? That's crazy. I would like to hear the details if this is true as to what caused his change of heart. Very interesting...
  5. Rankin wins again......he will be out of fingers soon!
  6. Hard to vote against a Rankin coached football team. Alcoa scores a touchdown late to ice it 27-13.
  7. I'm talking all sports, not just football. Look at the success Murfreesboro has right now with 4 high schools; you would be hard pressed to find another town with the talent level of Murfreesboro across the board.
  8. I believe it to be a factor, but a slight one at best. I cannot recall what year Blackman opened, but I know it was prior to Siegel's opening which was in 2002. Blackman took the majority of their students from the Riverdale zone, just as Siegel took the majority of their students from the Oakland zone. With that being said, Riverdale continued to dominate in football until this season, which is well beyond the opening of Blackman and/or Siegel. Riverdale baseball dominated the early part of this decade despite the prescence of Blackman and Siegel. Possibly the best argument for the opening of the new schools depleting the talent level can be made for the Oakland basketball team. However, in my opinion, they are still a dominant program as Coach King wins 20+ games a year and the biggest factor in many of those players attending Siegel was that they couldn't handle the discipline administered to be a part of Coach King's program. The bottom line with domination is that when a program is winning, parents will do whatever is necessary to get their kids involved with that program. Along similar lines, many parents will do anything to place their child at a particular school based on academics or sometimes social status. I know many parents rent an apartment in the Siegel zone simply so their child can attend school there. I think Brentwood/Ravenwood is a similar situation, but Brentwood is still a power in football due in large part to Coach Crawford, one of the best coaches in the state in my opinion. Something I like to think about quite often is this: What if Murfreesboro had only one high school like in the old days? Can you imagine that DOMINATION in EVERY sport out there? Sure, a lot of kids wouldn't get to play and there can only be one head coach of each team and all of that politically correct stuff, but can you imagine the teams the Boro could produce?
  9. Good point TDC. There are 15 games possible, and until Rankin left, 15 games were also probable.
  10. Noone else has commented on this so I assume it is false? If it were true, however, I would not find it unbelievable. The wing t and Riverdale are like oil and water, they just don't mix.
  11. Since Wells has been there for four years, he technically didn't get "fired" because he is tenured. Therefore, he still has a job and a paycheck, he just isn't a coach anymore, right???
  12. Thanks! What is the difference between the A & the B? Different age groups? What about rosters?
  13. Any word on the dates of the fall league in Murfreesboro? Limbaugh, is there going to be a website with info?
  14. How about the Eagleville job? Any word on the replacement there? Has Powers applied for that one as well?
  15. Time will tell...good luck to Coach Parker and his new team.
  16. It is an interesting hire, that's for sure. The question now is this: Will the squeeze play work in District 7 AAA??? /unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
  17. I never heard that Powers left to be with family, was that in the paper? Anyway, sometimes it is just time for a change of scenery and maybe that is what he wanted. You don't just turn off your love for the game and obviously Powers has a huge spot in his heart for baseball. I say if he wants the Blackman job, good luck to him. I wouldn't see it as him jumping ship, especially since he is not currently coaching at Riverdale. As for Coach Shadowens, I don't know anything about him other than what I read in the papers, but if he wants to coach at MTCS instead of Smyrna then good luck to him as well.
  18. Siegel's field is nice but is somewhat small for hosting the AAA teams compared to Oakland and MTSU.
  19. This is a game between two solid programs with excellent coaches who teach their players the right way to play the game of baseball. This game has my pick as being the best game to watch in the state tonight.
  20. Rhoden is probably a good guess as far as the juco coach being interested. My take on it is that IF Powers wants the job, he will get the job. The posting says math or science teacher, and I think Buddy P. teaches science, but Limbaugh or Riverdaleman would have to confirm that.
  21. I also heard that it was offered to another head coach in the district but he turned it down. Looks like Buddy Ball might be back in action!
  22. Rumors that I hear say Buddy Powers is the lead man for the Blackman job.
