  1. Mitch has played well all year. He save a goal tonight with an awesome bicycle kick off the goal line. See Mitch is an offensive player and we pride ourselves on defense so its been hard for him to excel on offense. He has played midfield for us and he has saved us alot with great defensive play. He has alot of confidence in his footskills and isnt afraid to dribble out of trouble even in our own end. Sometimes it is a little risky but he is good at it. I realize there are better teams than Columbia that wont be going to Memphis, but that has to do with the pairings. I feel bad for Brentwood and Hendersonville because they are superior teams. Whether they were outplayed or not I dont know. We didnt draw a real strong opponent tonight in Red Bank compared to Brentwood having to play Smyrna or Hendersonville having to play Centennial, but like I said, thats how the pairings fell. We got down early tonight. The ref called the Columbia keeper for putting the ball on the ground and then picking it up. He caught the ball in the air, put it on the ground to adjust his shin guard and then picked it up. Indirect kick from about the 10 yd line. Red Bank converted and then a few minutes later scored on a perfect upper ninety shot. Columbia regrouped and refused to be denied. Columbia probably wont win state but it wont be from a lack of effort. At least we are getting recognized. Thats hard to do around these parts, with teams like Franklin and Brentwood just up the road. 8 returning starters next year. Should be fun again next year.
  2. congratulations Centennial. It is great to see Columbia and Centennial going to the final 8. Brentwood and Franklin have always gotten the recognition in our area. Heck, Columbia has never gotten any attention. Its good to see some upsets. I guess thats why they play the games. I know the road will get real rough from here on in, but hey lets enjoy the ride. Good luck Centennial.
  3. Well put. Hustle and heart make up for alot of things. Columbia and RB may not be considered to go much further than where they are now, but there will be plenty of hustle and heart on the field tonight. After that things will take care of themselves. Every year there will be a few surprise teams. There will also be underachievers and overachievers. Some of the underachievers are finished for the season. Good luck to all. This should be a special time for all teams that are left, especially for those that have never been in this position before.
  4. we are as good as we need to be to win region and nobody said we stink just we dont have the talent of a lot of the other teams but it doesnt matter b/c we have made it this far and no one ever thought we would so i guess you really dont know what you are talking about and who said we are the team to beat? i know there is a lot of teams out there that could beat us but doenst mean we will stop playing so instead of sitting here and bashing back and forth im gonna get ready for red bank and hopefully ill see you in memphis
  5. when do they announce all region for region 4?????
  6. wont get too far??? we are farther than a whole lot of other teams being in the final 16. for a team that has just played "decently" and doesnt have the skill to play "good" teams that must say a whole lot and if we win today thatll put us in memphis right along side with the "good" teams. we have no intentions on winning state but we will play our heart out in every game until we are out and we wont ever quit or lay down even if we are playing "good" teams
  7. Columbia is on a ride of a lifetime with nothing to lose. The effort will definitely be there win or lose. The Lions have definitely planted a seed of whats to come the rest of this year and most definitely next year.
  8. Hey dont worry about what people say about you guys. Everybody doubted Columbia too. Blackman and Riverdale beat us during the regular season 4-0 and 4-1. But we beat both of those teams in regionals 1-0. This is a new season. Looking forward to a good game with you guys. good luck. I hope it is reffed well and cleanly played. Now back to you, upandin. First of all, we dont even know who you play for, if you even play. Second, yeah Region 4 probably isnt the best region in the state, so what? Do we quit playing because we figure we cant win? I dont think so. Columbia returns 8 starters next year, including their keeper and two of their defenders. Both center mids return, as do all their strikers. This year we might have surprised some people, but next year will be no surprise. All your trash talk does is motivate such inferior teams. Who would want to get beat by someone from such an inferior region? Dont get too sure of yourself, whoever you play for. There are 16 teams left and nobody is going to lay down. Good luck to everyone.
  9. I realize these two teams do not have any common opponents, but curious about what kind of game we can expect. I realize Red Bank was 3-11 during the year, but that doesnt matter right now. This is a new season. Im sure there are alot of teams out of the playoffs with better records wishing they could be Red Bank right now. Columbia crept up late in the year so I think it will be two teams playing with nothing to lose. Both teams have been underdogs throughout the playoffs.
  10. red bank is 3-11 columbia is 11-7-4 and yes the winner of saturday travels to memphis and to you upandin if we win tomorrow it will make columbia central history and it may not mean anything to you or anyone else for that matter but for me and my team it means more than anything ..just b/c you may go to a big high school where soccer is actually credited and supported by your school doesnt mean you have to hate on us, a school that no one cares about the soccer team except for the soccer team itself
  11. Did someone get a red card for CA and if so, who?
  12. No I said we were 0-4-2 without him and 11-3-2 with him for a combined record of 11-7-4. Sorry for any confusion. The losses to Overton, Brentwood and Shelbyville were all after he came back, but he didnt play in the Overton loss.
  13. Good prediction witness. You were wrong with the score, but we forgive you. Your analysis however is right on. Your advice on number 7 and 9 paid off. Thanks.
  14. DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. On March 20 Columbia walked off the field after losing 2-1 to Lawrence Co., a team we have beaten like 9 times in a row. Our record stood at 0-4-2. The only bright spot up to that point was a 1-1 tie with Smyrna. We lost our best striker, Zeb Macer with a broken leg the second game of the season. We were arguing with each other, blaming each other, and completely frustrated. This year was full of optimism because we were returning 8 starters from last year. Our sweeper, Zac Walker (sophomore) was still playing basketball so he had yet to step on the field. Well Zac stepped on the field for the seventh game and since then we are 11-3-2. The losses, 5-0 to Overton (without Walker), 3-0 to Brentwood (all three goals in the last 10 minutes) and a 1-0 loss to Shelbyville in the District 8 final, a pk. Columbia has allowed 5 goals in the last 11 games (1 own goal, 2 pks.) and only 1 during post season play, a Shelbyville pk. Team unity is so very important in any sport. The first 6 games we had absolutely none. Since then we have been united like never before. Columbia has not had an easy schedule. They played Blackman twice, Riverdale twice, Smyrna once and Brentwood once, and of course all their district teams, so nothing has come easy. Blackman beat Columbia early on 4-0 and so did Riverdale 4-1. We turned that around in the regionals by beating both teams 1-0. We have definitely crept up on alot of teams in post season but thats what a good defense can do for you. After beating Coffee Co. 4-0 in the first round of district play, we beat Tullahoma 1-0 in a pk shootoout, lost to Shelbyville 1-0 and then beat both Blackman and Riverdale 1-0. Maninly because we have three extremely talented and athletic defenders, Walker, Jeremy Ware and Michael Jennings. We have definitely been the underdog in the last three matches we have played. Its a great ride we are on right now and we know it can end at anytime but for the moment we are enjoying it. Its a feeling I hope every athlete can experience at one time or another. Dont ever quit believing in yourself or your team.
  15. Riverdale possesses alot of speed on the wings. Number 7 and Number 9. They play the long ball alot. We (Columbia) kept a defender blanketed on both of their wings. It worked since it prevented them from penetrating to the middle of the 18. Their defenders were not real accurate with their clearing attempts, maybe it was an off game for them. Couldnt get a good take on their keeper, since we didnt test him too much. One good scoring oppurtunity and we capitalized. Defense wins championships and Columbia proved it last night. Good luck.
  16. Back to what this post is supposed to be about. Ask Blackman or Riverdale if they were impressed with Columbia's sweeper, Zac Walker #12. A sophomore who is starting for his second year. See Zac also starts on the varsity basketball team and couldnt join the soccer team until the seventh game of the season. We were 0-4-2 up to that point. Since then we are 11-3-2 and he didnt play in the loss to Overton. We lost to Brentwood 3-0 ( all three goals coming in the final 10 minutes) and lost 1-0 to Shelbyville in the District finals ( a pk ) He is an incredible talent for someone who splits his year playing basketball and soccer. We are Region 4AAA champions due largely to Zac and our incredible defense.

    Riverdale

riverdale forwards and wings are very very very fast watch for the mohawk(if he still has it) i think number 7 and forward number 9 the one with the new gunmetal mania's is prolly their best player as a wicked shot and isnt afraid to let it rip they like the threw ball but are very capable of working the ball threw with a string of passes............. any info on red bank will be helpful
  18. Yankee0697

    Scores?

Columbia 1 Riverdale 0 any info on CA and Page Bearden and Farragat Smyrna and Hendersonville Brentwood and Centennial or any other games tonite?
  19. is that the final score b/c if it is i will be seeing red bank on saturday at 7 o'clock... whats the deal with red bank are they good or just lucky? any info could really help me out
  20. best team is either tullahoma or blackman from my stand point bc they both had the most offense the best game on the other hand is tullahoma by far since it ended in pks and the best player is number 7 from riverdale and blackman but every game we have played we have played like it was our last b/c sooner or later it will be just enjoying the ride winning region is so unreal i had no thought we would ever be this far
  21. The ride continues for Columbia Central. Region 4 Champs after beating Riverdale 1-0. 2 goals allowed in last 8 games. After starting the season 0-4-2. We are now 11-7-4. Total team effort with a strong defense standing up to strong Riverdale attack especially the last 20 minutes. We beat Blackman the other night 1-0 in a very similar game. Both Riverdale and Blackman are class teams. both games were played very clean with good officiating. Good luck Riverdale Saturday. I know we have probably snuck up on alot of teams especially in the playoffs, but when you have a solid defense you always have a chance to win.
  22. Who are the teams that Riverdale or Columbia can face in sectionals.
  23. Great prediction Hometownhero. you were right on. Michael Jennings, Jeremy Ware and Zac Walker you guys played awesome in front of me tonight. The ride continues.
  24. Columbia 1 Blackman 0. Columbia and Riverdale for the regional final. Any thoughts?
  25. Well the ride continues for Columbia. We beat Blackman tonight 1-0. Very intense game. Our defense has allowed 4 goals in the last nine games. 2 were pks. and 1 was an own goal. We are just having fun right now and we know this could all end in a heartbeat, but for the time being we are enjoying it. We started the season 0-4-2. We are now 10-7-4. We lose three starters after this year so we are really looking forward to next year. Blackman is a really solid team and they really took it to our defense tonight especially in the second half. We got lucky on a few goalmouth scrambles. Blackman is a class act and both teams played a hard but clean game.
