  1. I realize there are alot of sub mediocre teams, but there is one sub mediocre team with one of the best coaches in the state. Alex Axsom from Spring Hill. Unfortunately, he has never had enough talent to compete. Whats worse than that is he is in the same district as Franklin, Brentwood and Centennial. Makes for a long season. I went to Spring Hill my first year in High School and he was my coach. His practices are harder than anyone else's Ive have ever endured. I play for Columbia Central now, but I will never forget all that he taught me. I know it is hard to recognize a coach's talent when his team is consistently getting beat 9-0 or whatever, but he is one heckuva coach. Thank you, Alex.
  2. Yeah, Zac was our sweeper. I guess you know him judging by your last thread. I agree, good thing Sparkman and Wadale dont play soccer. Let them stick to basketball. lol. Youre right about the comparisons about us and Tullahoma. I never did say we play simalarily, I just said we have the same characteristics. Fairly small and sluggish on offense. Well good luck to you guys this year. My dad is our travel coach and he wants to schedule some scrimmage games this summer agianst you guys and Shelbyville and the rest of the teams in our district. See ya.
  3. We (Columbia Central) beat Tullahoma 2-1 last night in Columbia. The game was competitive right from the start. But all the stuff Ive heard about Tullahoma being dirty just wasnt so. They played us hard but for the most part clean. They did get one red card on a high kick to one of our players but I really dont think he should have gotten a red card. Tullahoma seems to be alot like us, a fairly small team that tends to struggle a little on offense. Our starting sweeper, Zac Walker just joined the team this week because he is also on the basketball team and they made it to the final four. But he played awesome, considering he hasnt touched a soccer ball for 4 or 5 months. The only goal tullahoma scored was on a pk. A real cheap call I might add. Tullahoma had a corner kick and I jumped to catch the ball out of the air over a few Tullahoma players. When I came down I had both hands around the ball but I got tangled with one of their players. The ref said I had the player in a head lock, which I did but was totally accidental. A totally clean play on both our parts, but the ref didnt see it that way. Well they scored on the pk to tie the score 1-1. That seemed to fire us up a little and we eventually scored on a long through ball. We really didnt know what to expect from Tullahoma since they just beat Riverdale 2-0. Riverdale beat us 4-1. Columbia has gotten off to a shaky start. Our best striker, Zeb Macer broke his leg against Lincoln Co. One of our defenders, Landon Ryan hasnt played all year because of a leg injury and Zac Walker was playing basketball. Well Zac is back and our defense is solidified. If our offense picks up a little we will be fine. But like I said before our district will be real competitive with alot of parity amongst the teams.
  4. Zac Walker from Columbia Central. Columbia has gotten off to a shaky start this year, mainly because Zac couldnt play soccer until the basketball season was over. He is the starting guard. They made it to the final four in the state so we didnt see Zac on the soccer team til a few days ago. He is our starting sweeper but he hasnt touched a soccer ball for four months. He played his first game last night against Tullahoma and was simply awesome. We won 2-1. Their only goal was a pk. He is a sophomore with tremendous athletic ability. He shut down the Tullahoma strikers all night long. He is never out of position and his foot skills are tremendous. Now that he is back in the line-up our defense is solidified.
  5. oh well i was misinformed but what about the riverdale contest riverdale is a far better team than lincoln county
  6. we play tullahoma tomorrow and i know they beat riverdale but lost to coffee county and lincoln county we lost horribly to riverdale but tied lincoln county so i really dont know what to expect any info would be much appreciated thanx
  7. so now that the season has started you should come out on top for div 8?
  8. crumbled bc yall were there? i think we crumbled bc riverdale is far better team than we are? heck i didnt know that yall were there until after the game i thought yall were students of riverdale but why bring my dad in to this he has nothing to do with it and feels that #13 was wrong for spitting and i have addressed him on this matter too. He was just trying to ease the tensions that were being felt by the mothers in the crowd. my dad knows what he is talking about unlike 80% of all the other fans that show up to games and why would yall want to play with no coaches and no refs it wouldnt be a soccer game it would more than likely be a brawl and i dont care that yall came to watch the game you were scouting like you said but why wait by our bus until we leave were you scouting our bus too? but whatever ill see yall next year and some of you during club im just gonna forget all of this. We should put this behind us and think and pray for our troops overseas. They are facing far bigger challenges than we are. Good luck the rest of the way. [Edited by Yankee0697 on 3-19-03 6:57P]
  9. we battled symrna monday to a 1-1 tie in a very physical and some what dirty game at the end of the game things got real out of hand there was spitting cursing at players and coaches and threats of i gonna whoop you and meet me in the parking lot today we played riverdale at riverdale at 4 o'clock symrna skipped practice to go out there and rag on our team throughout the game and afterwards sits in their trucks next to our bus now if you ask me i believe that shows their lack of class expecially on their coach who also came out there and also plain stupid whats done is done no need to try to make things worse of course they say that they were scouting bc they play riverdale but whatever lets them sleep at night but i do appreciate them coming out bc the real reason was that they missed me and wanted to see me agian i love you symrna and oh yeh i do have more than 2 good kicks in me throughout the game i have the tape and yall are just obnoxious
  10. yeh they have thier returning sweeper who i play club with who is very good and also two midfielders the twins they also have a few other returning players but are missing thier star keeper forward fullback and midfielders of last year and i dont think thier keeper is gonna be eligible to play this year making thier jv keeper have to play both varsity and jv i think this is his first year playing keeper

  12. i would just like personally thank all the symrna players and not to forget thier coach for skipping practice to show thier support at our match at riverdale i would also like to thank them for waiting for us by our bus to show even more support it is unfortunate we had lost that game 4-1 but it made it all better when i saw symrna's team and coach at our game VERY VERY CLASSY thank you
  13. Not anywhere near what they were last year. They lost alot of players from last year.
  14. Ill admit there are some bad refereeing out there. Every team can probably say they got cheated from time to time. But the bottom line is score more goals than the other team and you win. It seems that the first thing a team wants to do when they lose is blame the refs. A team should look at its own performance before pointing the finger at the refs. I admit that a bad call can cause a team to lose. Hopefully not to often though. [Edited by Yankee0697 on 3-18-03 10:52A]
  15. Bad refereeing is only part of the problem. The fans need to be more respectful. Our fans the other night were definitely rude. It seems that alot of the fans dont really understand the game and go just to heckle the other team. We (Columbia) faced that kind of treatment the other night in Dickson. Even though I left the field the other night with some bad feelings towards Smyrna, I know how they felt because we faced alot of abuse from the Dickson fans when we left the field the other night. When two teams play hard for 90 minutes they should leave the field with the game behind them. The fans should not provoke things by cursing at the opposing players. The Athletic Directors should emphasize this to the students. This goes for the parents as well. I am ashamed of what happened the other night in Columbia.
  16. I will admit there was alot of no class shown at the game last night, but it was shown on both sides. Our coach was cursed at as well. Our fans didnt help matters, I will admit. Some of the Smyrna players refused to shake hands after the game. As far as it escalating into the parking lot, that was a result of alot of stuff that was said by both teams. The refs had no control of the game right from the start. It was a physical game and Columbia came out on the short end of that because we were a much smaller team. The Smyrna players used their elbows alot, maybe unintentional maybe not, I dont know. Our fullback was elbowed in the face and busted his lip. Then when he got overzealous complaining to the refs, gets a yellow card, as well as the Smyrna player. Smyrna has just as much right to be upset with the refereeing because they had some bad calls called on them too. Thats when players and coaches get frustrated. The bad thing about bad officiating is that players tend to only focus on the bad calls against them and overlook the bad calls against their opponent. Alot of people think that as long as a referee is consistent everything is ok, but thats not true. Players get frustrated and things can get out of hand real easy. I can only speak for Columbia, but this was uncharacteristic for our team and our fans. No matter what the circumstance spitting on another player is unexcusable. Our Athletic Director was at the game and he wasnt happy with the fans. He will probably have something to say about it. The bottom line is that incidents like last night should never happen. Sorry.
  17. Tonight Columbia tied Smyrna 1-1. This was probably the worst officiated game I have ever seen. The calls were equally as bad for both sides, but the game got so out of hand that a bench clearing brawl almost happened at the end of the game. The referees never got control of the game. So many calls were missed by the refs. We (Columbia) were a much smaller team than Smyrna but we played them just as physical. But both teams got real frustrated because of the missed calls. But being consistent with bad calls doesnt make things right, because the play got so physical that it carried over right into the parking lot.

Hey size may be an asset but if you dont have reflexes or quickness it means nothing. Ive seen keepers under 6' with tremendous reflexes and Ive seen keepers well over 6' with no reflexes at all. Good job Tyler.
  19. hey lchs you missed my point. I said football is more physical and soccer is more running. Both are equally as tough.
  20. I never said they were the same. I just said both are real intense.
  21. I definitely agree with the last message. I, too play both soccer and football. Both are very intense. But anyone who thinks football practices arent tough definitely needs help. Football practices are more physical, thats to be expected but soccer practices require more running. Try practicing with full pads in the middle of the summer. Pretty demanding I would say. Sometimes soccer practices are nothing but running. Bottom line, you wont excel in either sport unless you are in top shape. But lets stick to the point. 22. TYLER BEASLEY FROM DAVIDSON ACADEMY COLLAPSED AND DIED AT PRACTICE THE OTHER DAY. WE SHOULD ALL PRAY FOR THE FAMILY OF TYLER BEASLEY. EVERY TEAM SHOULD HAVE A PRAYER BEFORE WE PLAY OUR NEXT GAME IN HIS MEMORY. THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE WHO PARTICIPATE IN HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS PROBABLY NEVER KNEW TYLER, MYSELF INCLUDED, BUT THAT DOES NOT TAKE AWAY FROM THE SORROW WE ALL FEEL. LETS ALL STRIVE TO BE THE BEST ATHLETES WE CAN BE, BUT LETS ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT LIFE IS FAR MORE PRECIOUS. GOD BLESS YOU, TYLER. BRYAN CARTMELL (YANKEE 0697)
  23. COLUMBIA CENTRAL WOULD LIKE TO SEND ITS PRAYERS AND CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND TEAMMATES OF TYLER BEASLEY OF DAVIDSON ACADEMY. MAY GOD BLESS.
