We all know softball starts with pitching. The teams that win state either have outstanding pitching or have quality players up and down the lineup or both and most have both. The other top twenty teams in the classification have one or two very good players but don't have the depth as the state champions or the top one or two pitchers. With that said the top two players at Forest are as good as the top two at Ezell etc. Ezell will disagree but look at what has changed about Ezell in the last two years. They lost there outstanding pitching and they are no longer separating themselves from Forest, Davidson Academy etc. So yes any team's players public or private should be considered for all-state and the concentration should be on the top twenty or so teams.

I really thought the BA coaches(Coach Lockridge and Coach Blades???) could get them close to where they were last year. The loss of Sara Meek was a big loss but BA had basically the rest of the team coming back. It just shows how much revolves around pitching. Is pitching as important as coaching?

My point is that the team is driven by stats. The stats can vary based on strength of schedule and just being inaccurate because of bias. The Weiland kid is a great player I have seen her many times in the summer(Wild Things). Stats and votes from coaches leave little doubt for All-Midstate!

You can't believe all of these stats. The scorekeepers for some of the teams are parents. In some cases they are too easy in scoring and sometimes they just plain pad their own kid's stats, sorry but it is true. In other cases they don't know all of the particulars because they don't have the experience, yet. The coaches truly know who to submit and must do so for it to be accurate. The combination of coaches picks for their players as well as opposing players plus good stats can make it much more accurate. The newspaper generally covers the big games and state so their exposure to players is limited. Coaches need to step up to make it right!! P.S. Which team is better this year or last? I say last year by far.
