  1. HV pounded a weak Volunteer team. Cloudland outcoached TN High as the 2 Freshman shined. I was very impressed with 32 and 15. However, them eventually starting may weaken the bench. Elizabethton dominated the 3 quarters that I was there. Pietrowski squared had a good game against smaller opponents. That sisterly passing was uncanny. Hampton lost to an improving Science Hill team. In Picket Co., Unaka, without Coach Chambers who was home with his sick father, beat Picket Co. 71-61. Coach Wes Wright 1st Varsity win.
  2. I had that happen to me one time and after that I made sure my bookkeeper checked where the foul was marked. If it was on the wrong person I told her to get the refs attention as quickly as possible, even if it meant blowing the horn. Couldn't get out last night but I hope to with Coach H 17 tomorrow.
  3. Happy Valley beat University High and Elizabethton lost to Mitchell Co. That's all I know as of now. Anyone with details fill us in.

  5. Thanks! The more info the better. Cherokee is awful period and East is athletic but poorly coached. Crockett Wed, TN High Fri and not sure about Mitchell Co. (usually a good team) will be a better test for the Landers. I guess Sat. Hampton Eliz game will help separate those 2. See you at HV
  6. You underestimate the power of coaching! "A" will be tough but I think you'll like the "TEAM" chemistry this year. This group was begging for pre-season conditioning. I start the Top 5 next Monday after seeing a game or 2. Hope to see you Fri.
  7. Seeing how it is sight unseen... 1. Elizabethton (Lost a lot with Rikki & Val) 2. Unaka (Lost the most, but great coaching) 3. Happy Valley (Improving, but needs inside depth) 4. Cloudland (Lunceford, Banner & who???) 5. Hampton (All the same size 5'6" to 5'8", no post presence) See some of you at HV! I hope!
  8. Nice to know the Lady Rangers have added a quality player to their program. I liked Bowman when she played for you at TAD. Just kind of wondering out loud how she fell through the cracks at EHS.
  9. How big of a difference can she make for the Rangers Oh Great One! Is she too soft to be able to play inside? I know she'll help on the press and handling the ball, but can she be physical enough to guard a banger inside? What about post moves?
  10. I just read that Peyton Manning saw Eli not wearing a knee brace during a pre-season game, called him and told him to get the braces on. They wear them every game and in that article it suggested that Culpepper's knee injury could have been, at least lessened, if he would have been wearing one. I for one would wear them.
  11. I think CC took a job in Alaska training sled dogs. There are some mighty fine sled dogs in Alaska and now that they have a coach in their corner they should increase their pull times significantly!
  12. How much has Coach Weems changed? They still seem to be winning in scrimmages. Are they finally pressing the whole game?
  13. Thanks. Now where is their Thanksgiving Tournament.
  14. I, also, think Unaka will suprise many. They are quicker than in years past but they are very young!!!!
  15. This is why I think coaching at Unaka is a great opportunity! Every year you have a chance to go to the Sub-State. But they did beat Central and barely lost to Science Hill playing everyone on the team. I think they can play with about anyone!
  16. Unaka lost the 7 quality seniors, 3 of which are playing at the next level, including all 5 starters. Can they continue to be a force in Upper East TN A ball???
  17. I hope I am not the person being pointed to as collapsing a program. As I won the T-N-T at OS Middle School with exceptional talent (Boys that is), took over the high school girls program for 3 years and never got off the ground. I have learned a lot since then and have been a part of a succesful program at Unaka and have always helped TWright with scouting in Upper East TN so I am not bitter about the situation. Middle school and high school are 2 different animals. Plays that work in middle school do not work at the high school level, Defense is very important, conditioning for larger floors is a must and when parents are allowed to control the administration that complicates things even worse. So I cannot say one way or another if Sam would do a good job or not, I do know he did not want the job when I got it! Did he want it now?
  18. Since when do you work late?! How can you expect Elizabethton to continue their success, when this is the last group that you coached in jr high coming through? You & many esteemed colleagues under estimate the effect you had on these past successful years! Still wish you would've waited for your turn....However as in the past (softball), you probably wouldn't have gotten it anyway. I need an e-mail address street punk!!!
  19. 1. Elizabethton - congrats on State. 2. Unaka - 1 game doesn't make the Landers better (actually losing at home to the # 2 seed would drop them anyway 3. Cloudland - Also, a great season. 4. Happy Valley - better record 5. Hampton - drops to single A with a new coach
  20. I don't even know if Toney was the one pitching and I'll never make an excuse for a poor performance. I meant let him throw a little more and get out of basketball mode (which I don't know why he played anyway) and watch him peform. Just clarifying my post. And I agree with your analysis.
  21. Remember this post. Toney will make it once the weather warms any college will take a P who throws in the upper 80's consistently. Question: Why would he not make it because he lost a scrimmage in pre-season. Even Randy Johnson has had a 1 IP 6 runs implosion. Sit back & watch.
  22. HV has the most potential than any team in the conference, region and state. Let's hope they live up to it!! As for the # 1 pitcher being rocked at D-B, wait till it counts. I suppose you are talking about Toney (the player who already has his college paid for).
  23. Coachh17 is a great coach and deserves the most of the credit credit. He may not have the "kiss your butt" people skills all of you desire, but he got the most out sub-par players on the JV in years past and was very successful. Parents and AAU coaches take too much credit for player when in reality the coach that has taught them all year long. Also, he was a great softball coach at TAD won conference titles and had numerous victories. Yet, he was never given the chance to be the Head Softball Coach! Overlooked twice. He quit feeding them the good players as of last year, we will see the effects in about 3 years. Then tell me he's not a good coach.
  24. My first time seeing them since HV Tournament and she just stood out to me.
  25. A little late but...I hope EHS wins the State they have been winners ever since Coachh17 had them in Middle School so it just proves that if you have a good Middle School Coach your High School program will have a better chance of winning BIG!! As for for Rikki being the MVP of the Sub-State, I agree she is a great player but without Victoria Hopson Saturday night EHS loses. She got key rebounds, led numerous fast breaks, made the correct pass everytime, played great defense and scored 7 points. The boxscore says she is not the MVP but in my opinion she was .
