  1. I only saw the first half of the game but Johnson and Williams both played pretty well in the first half as well as friday. Johnson hit at least 2 threes in the first half. He has been a big reason they are handling the ball better this year. Jarvis has been playing with a lot of energy and contributing at a lot of spots a lot like Kyle did. He gets on the boards well, can be a solid defender, and has a couple of good moves to the basket. As Drake continues to shoot better and Slatten figures out his rotation a little better (Hess should get more time) the warriors could be competitive. England pretty much supplies all their back to the basket though. It would be good to have another solid post but he has looked really good at times.
  2. I can prove to you that you can win without any of that. I do question your thoughts though. You said officiating, cause some coaches can win by intimidation. Working the refs is part of coaching. I've seen a team win a state championship without a transfer and without having AAU having any kind of influence (except improvment over the summer) on the high school teams success. It can be done and it is by good coaches.
  3. They may see better teams and better coaches, you are right. However, as far as talent they won't see a team that talented in the district. I mean who is your district front runner? Oakland or Cookeville? Neither one of their line ups come close to being as talented 1-5. Not to mention 1-10. They still have a lot to improve on but its a nice win early.
  4. Are you asking what the score is? I can't believe you didn't go. Anyway the girls ended up winning by 15 or 16 I think. The team was Campbelle Georgia. They were a very athletic team with a lot of size and good shooters. Not to mention a 6'2'' (give or take) girl that stepped out and hit 3's and played the top of a press. No team in the district that talented. I think maybe you would have been impressed.
  5. Girl's Games Friday 12:30 White Co. vs. Campbell(GA) 3:30 Cumberland Co. vs. William Blount 6:30 York Institute vs. Blackman Saturday 12:30 York Institute vs. Campbell(GA) 3:30 White Co. vs. William Blount 6:30 Cumberland CO. vs. Blackman
  6. This is only the boys schedule since it is the boys basketball board if you want girls tell me. Friday's Games 2:00 White Co. vs. Livingston Academy 5:00 Cumberland Co. vs. Campbell(GA) 8:00 York Institute vs. Blackman Saturday's Games 2:00 Livingston Academy vs. Campbell(GA) 5:00 White County vs. York Institute 8:00 Cumberland Co. Vs. Blackman
  7. Oh and about all the baseball basketball who is better skilled or more athletic. I don't really know but I"m not about to knock a baseball player. There's not a lot of things harder to do than hit a little ball coming about 90 mph and breaking a foot outside once it gets there. Of course not everyone throws it like that but still professionals do and that is what we are comparing.
  8. Look at it your own way over there. Like you said don't knock it till you try it. You said you played basketball up until 9th grade. Yeah me too, then I started living it. You played when you were like 13 in middle school. What middle school team has a weight program? Which ones do you know that practice year round. Not as a team but as individuals. Don't get on here talking about how easy city league basketball was for you and act like the sports a cake walk. Cause to be successful in it, just like anything else including cheerleading, you have to bust it harder than anyone else. You didn't see me get on here and bash your sport of cheerleading and I'm not going to. Just remember your experiences can't speak for everyone elses.
  9. Your gonna come with Agee who is 6'1''. Not to mention both the brittany's that had to play plenty of times together last year with brooke out. The scheme still works the same with his running and jumping style. Molly will be down there soon I would think. Like I said earlier Molly has a lot to learn about the offense and certainly the defensive rotations. She could contribute right now but why throw her in the fire when you can ease her in. I think we will see both the freshman in due time. Haley will be ready to contribute soon for this team also. She's gonna be a good one, if you haven't seen her you will like her. I think our coach did good for the most part. What hurt White Co. the most against Smith Co. was obvious. Smith Co. got probably half their points from the free throw line. Not only did they give Smith Co. a lot of easy points but it also kept White Co. from getting on a big run like they had done so often friday night. When the game is called like that some kind of adjustment has to be made to prevent so many easy points at the foul line. Give some credit to Smith Co. if their game plan was to slow it down and try to attack White Co.'s aggressive defense and get them in foul trouble. I don't know if that was it but that is what happened and it could have worked if Smith Co. shoots better from the line.
  10. So what, its a bunch of students talking to players. They do it cause its fun. Don't act like Pickett Co. has a perfect rep down there or something. I remember playing your guys and all of them talked. It shoulldn't matter what the students say, the players shouldn't be focused on that. White Co. is still young, they will improve as the season goes along. Going to be rough getting started but with games comes experience. I'm just glad to see the fans were out making some noise.
  11. Now how you gonna ask where Molly was at? She was behind the bench. He has got the talent on that bench, yeah Molly could help and will help. He can get it done with what is down there though. This weekend in Cumberland Co. first good preview. Well, if the team from Georgia is good like they say. Then we will have something interesting to talk about. See you in tullahoma tonight benchcoach?
  12. They are still a very young team with no seniors. Expect to see a lot of sloppy play at times with turnovers. Heigth will be a problem a lot of times also too. However, there are some bright spots but it will be a loosing year but they should improve as the year goes on. Basically about the same thing as last year really, but hopefully the experience will mean good things for the future.
  13. Look at cookeville's schedule from last year. It was probably the hardest schedule in the state. It didn't help them by playing every good team they could. You gotta find what works for your team. Speaking of cookeville didn't they open against Oak Ridge last night?
  14. Come on now benchcoach. I mean are you going to question every game on the schedule where White Co. plays a weaker team? Its like I said they will be tested soon enough. If they don't play in these hall of fame games they would open up with Tullahoma. White Co. blew them out last year. Just quit complaining all the time and lets watch and see. Everyone knows it means nothing for them to beat Spencer so why even talk about it? We both know they are going to play some good teams soon.
  15. I don't think that last statement is correct at all. I don't see how we are setting up Coach Hess. That team is far above average or could be anyway. I know that for a fact. This is a team that beat oakland (state semi fianls)once last year and it returns everyone. Its got a great mix of experience and youth now its just gotta come together. I don't expect them to win the state tourney but I could see them playing in it. At the same time I can see them getting put out in the region. Its how far they wanna go and what will they do for it. I agree with Benchcoach, probably would have been better to play ourselves. Don't worry though they will be tested soon and often through the season.
  16. Wild crazy man for a coach? Yeah, I mean Buck is pretty crazy but he is a great coach. He didn't rip his shirt and tie off. He may of taken off his tie or something. I can't remember the story but it wasn't anything like you are making it to be.
  17. How tall is Dane and what position does UT plan to use him at? I'm thinking the 2? He's not fast enough to play the one. Does anyone know what position he is going to play?
  18. Yeah there is a playday this weekend in sparta. Well I don't think I would call it a "play day" just 2 or 3 other teams will be coming. I'm not sure who all is coming though. They start playing at 11 I was told.
  19. I think I may know part of the reason but not all. It is a little odd that they have not scrimmaged a triple A school yet and I don't know if they even will or not. However, I think one reason for this is because if you play a AAA team around here then its a team he is probably going to see in the season also. These A and AA schools are schools white county won't play unless some kind of tourney or something maybe. Personally though I agree with you on the fact that I would like to see them at some of those big play days. I think it would help them to get some recognition also and maybe some respect before the season but i'm not the coach. Who all is coming in this weekend?
  20. Good call here by the coach. I'm sure those guys who left the team and a lot of others are wondering why in the world it matters what their hair looks like. It was said earlier a lot of it is about impression. A coach is trying to build a winning program or maintain one, and those faces on that team may change year in and year out but that coach isn't and that school isn't. Its more than just an individual impression that is given by players. They paint a picture of that school, and even that community in some cases. So yeah it matters what your hair looks like to someone and that someone in this case happens to be the boss. A ton of jobs in the real world make you have a certain apperance.........so who is going to pass up on that good job cause you want to keep your hair?
  21. I'll tell you why they quit. They dont' love the game anymore.........or not like they did at one time. They both may have been tired of playing for that coach but what it comes down to is they don't like it enough to put in the time it takes at a program like baxter. I mean its just something that happens and happens to the best of them. They just lost some of their love for basketball.
  22. First off why does everyone keep saying "leave coach slatten alone and you will see what kind of coach he is". This is a message board, saying something on here is not going to keep Slatten from doing his job (i would hope). So no one is bothering coach slatten, the way I see it is he has got at least a couple of years to show if he can coach. If he can then he'll have a couple more and if he can't then he should be gone. I'm just sitting back and watching and of course being a critic like everyone else. I've changed my philosophy on it myself. I may sit here and question his decisions and such but i will try to support him because by doing so I support that team and those boys. By tearing him down I tear down that program and those boys. Do I like Slatten......who cares....its doesn't matter.........I'm just waitin and hopin he can coach. I think they can win some games this year. The district is down so they can win some games I think and I expect.
  23. Thats weird. I saw her play this summer with the West Tn. Wings and I don't think she ever played any point guard. I thought she was a 2 guard and more of a threat as a shooter.
  24. I forgot one thing. They lose to York and I hear compliants. They play and beat a good Clarkrange team with Anderson and Sunday not starting, and Lewis not having her better game. Sounds like they played good considering the situation and yet with the Win you still hear the complaints about something. Bleacher Creachers I tell you.
