  1. Space, I got home and didn't pay attention to the login. I am actually the author of the post. Sorry about that...old age!
  2. Got on Coacht and didn't pay attention to the login. I am actually the author of this post, not panzyfan. Sorry about that.
  3. Mantlo played for Lipscomb last year. He came off the bench in numerous games. Remeber, Lipscomb graduated 4 starters and a key sub.
  4. I guess the Harpeth game was not the game to judge Portland's true character. I was really impressed with the "team." Yes, Brewer had 50, but he distributed the ball to other guys who made shots. They seemed to play good defense as well. Granted Harpeth isn't the best team out there, but I don't think they are a pushover either. I'm with you oldschool. If Brewer were on my team, I would be setting the offense around him. Although I'm not as high on him defensively as you are (because I believe my son is the best defensive player in 8AA, but I'm not biased), I do believe he will become an even better player when he gets to Florida. As a coach, you play the cards you are dealt. Brewer just so happens to be the ace of spades for Portland.
  5. I was impressed with SC. They never quit. I had posted earlier that I thought SC might not score 40, I guess I was wrong. It looked like they wanted the game to be physical and took it to DL. I think they got Lipscomb got them to play which caused Lipscomb to rush things more than usual. I thought the intensity of the coach and fans helped the team. Will Mantlo stepped up big for Lipscomb. He is playing excellent defense and appears to have confidence in hitting his shot. Overall Lipscomb had a much better shooting percentage (especially from the FT line). I was surprised that Mayes didn't get more touches. I still believe the defensive intensity of Lipscomb is what won the game for them. Don't know how many steals/unforced turnovers each team had, but I would say the edge went to Lipscomb. Great game to watch.

    8AA

East Lit. beat Hume Fogg in OT 77-68. Also, Greenbrier beat Portland. Both of those games could be seen as upsets. However, 8AA is once again a very difficult district to play in. Station Camp played Lipscomb very close, and put up 66 points against them. SC is very scrappy, shoots the ball well, and has some of the best fan support. Although played at Lipscomb, SC fans were the ones making the most noise. Looks like this year the 8AA district champ could very easily be a .500 team.
  7. There was no reason for Lipscomb to try to get Daniel out of the game. This is an intense rivalry. Both teams have a tendency to get physical, which they did. I hated to see him get ejected, but the ref made that decision based upon what he saw from his view on the court. Daniel had not been a factor in the game to that point, and I agree with BigA that Goodpasture seemed to play more focused after his ejection. I imagine the next meeting to be intense once again.
  8. I really don't know anything about Station Camp, so I can't say how they will match up against Lipscomb. Based on their scores and opponents, I would say they may have trouble. If Lipscomb continues to shoot poorly, then it will be close. However, if Lipscomb can boost their confidence as a team, they will be tough for anybody. They are playing great defense. So I don't expect SC to score more than 40. Looking forward to it!
  9. Just curious, but are the games that are being cancelled because of the football games forfeits for Huntingdon or will they be made up? Are they cancelled because they don't have enough players? I know Lipscomb is already playing games and has one Sat night too. They have 3 or 4 bball players on the football team. Per CoachT Schedules, all the other schools are already playing. Germantown and Covington are not listed on CoachT, but have scores in the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
  10. Looks like a classic matchup for the 2A State Championship. DL's Coach McAdams has a nephew who plays for Huntingdon to add to the drama. Both teams match up well. Both play physical, fundamentally sound football. Turnovers played an important part of both of their semi-final victories. Both teams have more than one weapon in the backfield. Here is my quick analysis: Coaching - Even, Lipscomb will probably have better initial game plan, but Huntingdon proved they can adjust against Milan. Offense RB's - Huntingdon (with nearly 3,000 yards between the two backs) QB - Lipscomb (very accurate, very quick and stronger than you would expect) OL - Even, both teams have opened holes for their backs all year. Receivers - Lipscomb, #21 is a definite D1 prospect Defense DL - Lipscomb (smaller than just about every team they have played and still get the job done. Just look at the Tyner game) Linebackers - Even, both are had hitting DB - Even, speed goes to Lipscomb, but Huntingdon has made plays too. Special teams Lipscomb - they don't allow big plays against them and they make big plays happen. Kicker - Lipscomb (Robertson is automatic) I give the edge to Lipscomb. But Huntingdon is pretty hungry and would love nothing better than to spoil Lipscomb's perfect season. I believe turnovers will again decide the winner. DL 17 Huntingdon 14
  11. Having been around HS football since the mid 70's (wow I must be old) I don't think there was as much controversy. Not to say that a A or AA team didn't think it was better than AAA teams. BA was considered one of the best teams then while they were playing AA. We didn't have forums like CoachT available, therefore, people were not communicating their views outside of their own circle of influence (with the exception of the local sportswriters). People were a whole lot more humble in the past too. For some reason (maybe the success of college teams like Miami) it has become acceptable to talk about how great you are or trash talking! JMO.
  12. Brent McPherson doesn't have the physical athleticism of some of the guards previously listed, but he provides his team with so many other intangibles. Leadership, court saavy, and game knowledge along with his shooting, passing abilities and his much improved defensive pressure this year him one of the best point guards.
  13. No posts about defense! Does that mean people don't care about playing defense or is it too early to say who is playing good defense. I for one think I know who plays some of the best defense in the state, but since he's my son, I'm probably a little biased. Portland's Cory Brewer can be very good defensively, although I think he lacks the constant intensity to be considered the best. Anybody else?
  14. Who said anything about a cakewalk for DL? Huntingdon is a very good football team with a great tradition. The will definitely be ready next Friday. Both teams possess many weapons on offense, and both teams have stingy defenses. This should be a great game. One that I will definitely attend. And, I still garuantee a Mustang victory!
  15. See Lipscomb v Alcoa thread 49-0 L w/about 7 min in 3rd Qtr
  16. I'll bet $1 million that the Mustangs WILL win the 2A State Championship in football.
  17. Who gets the ball to start the 2nd half?
  18. I garuantee that the Mustangs will win the 2A Football Championship. No doubt about it.
  19. uncle, uncle, UNCLE...you were right!
  20. Thanks for the updates. Lost the webcast with about three minutes left to play in the game. I hope this doesn't happen with the Alcoa-Lipscomb game. Did MoWest try the kick on 3rd down or wait for 4th down? How long was the FG? Why is unclecatfish posting his trash?
  21. Uncle, its a little late to be posting bulletin board material. Lipscomb and Alcoa have both made it this far by making the plays. Lipscomb is talented. I've seen them play about 5 times. However, you can't count anyone out. Lipscomb will have to play well in order to win this one. Lipscomb definitely has the advantage in the kicking game. I believe they have the advantage in the running game because of the different options that they can throw at you. Coaching would have to be even. Defense is probably even as well. Again, if either team turns the ball over more than once, I predict the other team pulls it out. Good luck Mustangs!
  22. Does anyone know what the weather conditions and field conditions are?
