  1. I must admit that after reading the recent post about Tennessee greats I was left scratching my head about one imparticular, and so my research began. Turns out "White Lightning" Larry Keltner does indeed belong among the best, not only as a ball player but also as a Patriot. My search led to me discovering White Lightning averaged 37.3 ppg along with 24.7 reb and 15.2 assist respectively. He was recruited heavily by every school in the nation, but like posted before, Larry felt his duty was to his country. He inlisted in the United States Navy . I haven't been able to find much more info on Larry after his inlistment but if anyone has information on his whereabouts today please let me know. I'd love to have a nice long chat with the legendary "White Lightning" !
  2. Howard Spears actually started his career coaching girls basketball. Molding the Lady Panthers into a powerhouse in the 80's. No doubt in my mind he could once again coach girls "at any level" .
  3. FACTS : 1. Mrs Lee has resigned as LCMS girls coach. 2. Mullinicks, Stanley, Thompson, and Wills have withdrew there names as possible replacements. 3. Both boys and girls had seasons to be proud of. SPECULATIONS : 1. The Four Horsemen are finished at the middle level. Possibly looking to move up to the next level. 2. Strength is a qualified coach for the position.. perhaps maybe football , but basketball ??? 3. H.Spears, isn't his name mentioned for all coaching openings FICTION : 1. Helton , Skelton , Craig , Rodgers , Fite
  4. Why was the legends thread deleted?? When the old format was up that thread recieved more post than any, why delete it unless you just want money. I'm through with coacht.
  5. I heard last night's series was one for the ages. It was probably the last time 5 original Legends will ever be paired together. Hugh Smith, Josh and Jonah Keltner, Larry Rodgers, and Travis Mckissack was Team 1. Team two consisted of young stars Wally Thomas,Ryan Renolds,Coach Cox,ODB,and Lantz Dabbs. Going into the series Team 1 was the huge underdog, talk of a possible sweep was even being heard. However Team 1 jumped out early in game one and never looked back. After an embarrasing defeat in game one Coach Cox used stradegy and went to a man to man defense. His plan worked to perfection as team 2 soundly defeated team 1 in the second game. Game 3 was for all the marbles as both teams agreed to play to 40. After a brief altercation between two players team 2 went into halftime with a 20-14 lead. Team 1 came out hot in the second and pulled out a narrow victory 40-35. After the game Legends and Rookies alike shook hands and agreed that they had all been a part of a historic series.
  6. I find the story of Mr.Young inspiring and admirable. I remember watching Bobby play in high school, he was an amazing athlete with a jump shot matched by none other. Please keep the stories coming. I love reading them and it helps me learn about these great Legends!
  7. Faculty: Trav(6-2),Rodgers(6-1),Lawson(6-1), Keltner(6-4),Keltner(6-1),Cox(6-1) Duncan(6-3),Jackson(5-11),Calicott(6-3) Student: Edwards(6-0), Mconell(5-7), Mex(5-9), FatJ(5-10) Lurue(5-11), Brooks(5-7). This sould be a very funny game to watch!
  8. Hey I was wondering if you guys were going to be playing again at the park soon? Although I'm too old to play I love to watch parts of the games as I walk the track.
  9. Thanks for the information fadeaway. That was truely a great post honoring the african american athletes in our community. Definitly deserve good mark for that!
  10. I have heard the Legends will be back on the court this Wednesday night. I am anxious to see if the Keltner's come back with vingance after losing three in a row and being accused of point shaving. Can ODB stay hot and will Fung continue to play after being named MVP of all 3 games last week. It has been rumored Gary Craig and Howard "Bear" Spears will keep score for Wed. games to avoid any more controversy. Many Legends who have missed the majority of the preseason are speculated to be returning..Larry Rodgers, Evan Lawson, Andy Lawson, and MVP nomine Jason Alexander, Coach Cox. Wed. games should be very exciting!
  11. I find myself checking this thread three or four times a day. I love it!
  12. I love hearing about all the Legends playing. I miss you at the ball courts but I might try and watch you all in the gym sometime. Keep us updated!
  13. I have seen both teams play and I can honestly say that I believe LC will defeat GC in a close game. After seeing GC get handeled by Columbia Central, and LC defeating a strong Marshall Co. I believe the atmsophere will be in LC's favor this Tuesday night. This one will be the best in AA Tuesday night!! LC- 56 GC-44
  14. I hope your post are just jokes. Do you actually believe Parson's will be beat Lewis County?? Yeah your joking. Lewis County is just to tough and agressive and has tons of talented athletes. Parson's has, well not much of anything. I have the feeling Parson's football team will take a beating from LC like there basketball team did.(82-18). Hope everyone has a safe game.
  15. I remember very well the teams of both Columbia Academy and Lewis County during the time period of which you speak. Both teams were very good, and combined could have in my opinion won 2 if not 3 state championships. I've went back to both teams and combined what the roster might have looked like. Jamie Spears, Brad Tenry, Price Robison, Josh Keltner, Jason Alexander. Jon Conner, Kyle Ellis, Dustin Davis, Darren Clayburn, Rob Inman. J.R. Smith, Jonah Russell, Aaron Siglar, Aaron Darden, Nick Spicer. I'm sure there are a few I have left off but any five of the above listed could have been a starter on any given night. Yeah I know there were some great teams in AA those years but which one of those teams went 16 deep, with no drop off in talent. Plus the team would have been ran by a legendary coach, Howard Spears. I truely believe this would have been one of the, if not the best team ever to play AA ball in the state of Tennessee.
