as noted many times... schools are not allowed to recruit on an athletic basis whether they are public or private.
Privates are open zoned and magnets are as well. (although some do have limited zones)
CSAS basketball and Tyner football are the only magnet schools in chattanooga that seem to be benifiting from the open zones.

mcCallie won 4-0.

why doesn't he follow his brother to Furman?
I don't see him playing at UTC. Not necesarly his talent just don't see it. Why doesn't he just stay at Covenant and finish out his basketball career?
Sorry... getting off topic.

call TSSAA to report it.
call Temple to see if it is true.
The kid probably doesn't know what he is talking about.
Again, if it is true, it needs to be reported. Otherwise this kind of stuff will never stop.
A church is not allowed to give scholarship. (if the student wants to play varsity athletics) Money has to come from their parents, or I believe it even says a family member.
Whos to say a church is not giving the family $$ to pay tuition. This COULD be happening at other DI schools.
Temple's success should attract some transfers. The recruting typically happens by players and parents. I cannot image a coach at Temple is contacting players.
Ooltewah has about five tranfers on their baseball team, doesn't mean the recruited them.
-
The University is not DI. They are NAIA and NCCAA which is the Christian College association.
Doesn't matter really.
Yes, Temple High School is DI which means the students that play varsity athletics must be the ones that pay their bill. They may not recieve scholarship.
Also, don't believe everything you read on the internet.

They didnt have the players to play like they have in the past several years. When he played, they HAD to play good defense, slow the game down and shoot the threes. He is not insulting the present system. Give him a break.
Temple beat some pretty good teams back in the day and one one state championship. Without the Skogens, they will have to play different style, even if Sexton stays around. The game changes with your personel. Give him time.

Don't forget the Chattanoogan.com.

personally, I think it is a good hire. He may not have a lot of experience but he is going to bring a lot of enthusiasim to the program and hopefully a love for his school.
-
good win for the Patriots. Are they the best public school in Chattanooga this year? They certainly would be favored to win the district and region tournaments in A/AA.
-
He played JV at David Brainerd.
I think the one year only applies to varsity players.
-
Like I said, Grouthouse sat out a full year at David Brainerd. That made him eligible since he did not play varsity basketball. Not sure what the hardship would be. Getting a new coach is not hardship.
Also, from what I have heard, Arnold is very experienced. He has been a head coach at the high school and college level. I don't think because they hired in house, they aren't getting someone as good as Salter.
-
grouthous sat out a year. After that, he was eligbile no matter where he went.
Unless you move 20 miles to a new school district, you are ineligible even if it is to a public school.
-
They will have to sit out a year. That could really hurt if these kids plan on getting recruited.
Kids like to talk. Doubt it will actually happen.

I was just reading on TSSAA about the changes. If you haven't seen it, you have to read it.
Why does basketball have open gym but soccer cannot. This doesn't make sense to me.
I don't mind some restrictions... but soccer teams should be allowed to have open field in the fall and winter.
This means a bunch of guys/girls cannot get together and play soccer after school in the off-season.
This is ridiculous. There are other changes but this one really bothers me.
NEW--- went back and read some more... girls can have open field but boys can't?
-
the last one I saw was the year Jonathan Adams and Charles Little went head to head in the dunk contest. It was pretty awesome.
-
The last several coaches have been dads and I assume they work something out with tuition and therefor pay has not been a big issue. I am sure Coach Wadley is enjoying his paycheck this year.
It will be hard to pay a good coach a reasonable wage, too many other options out there that pay much better. This is not just an issue at Temple but many other DI privates just don't pay as much as Hamilton County or Georgia.
-
my oldest child is in first grade. I don't have stats but I saw alot of games.
-
Vandy- how many Temple games have you seen this year? Skogen did not sit against these awful teams until he got at least 20 points. Ask the parents of the kids sat the bench. It didn't matter what they were up by, Skogen (and other seniors) played in the fourth quarter in almost every game.
Again I am not argueing against him, he is clearly the best player in Class A. Not sure how they choose.
-
does temple have a team?
-
I doubt Skogen ever sat out a full quarter all year but I think he got shafted as well.
-
we can probably stop the perdictions since the game was on Thursday.
McCallie won 5-1.
-
I believe he is saying losing Mcneil will be a major problem for Soddy next year because he IS such a good player.
They only loose two player BUT one is McNeil and that will make a big difference for the Trojans.
Any word on a coach?

Does Red Bank play at Soddy on Tuesday? I think thats what TSSAA shows on their schedule.
