  1. I also would have given it to DCA's #23 Drew Jackson. There were a few plays that Peardon got the better of him, but Jackson made some major plays in the backfield when DCA needed it and anchored the DCA secondary that was down 2 starters by the end of the game. In addition, next to Wooden, Jackson is the most unselfish person on DCA's team. A REAL class act.
  2. I've said it for 2 years now. I was on here calling foul about Wooden not getting nominated last year. Now with this year, it's a mockery of 1A football. He's the best, plain and simple. No one will give him the credit though. Good Luck to the entire Wildcat team. Bring it home!
  3. I started watching DCA Football last year because of Chris Wooden. I am not a parent of DCA player, but just a fan who takes his son to football games on friday night. Since last year, my son and I have began following DCA and have gottten to know Wooden and I believe I can factually answer this question. Most people are aware that Wooden tore his MCL in the 2nd round of the playoffs last year against CPA and DCA struggled mightily after that, especially in the championship against Boyd because DCA's back-up running back/starting fullback, broke his leg in the semi-finals leaving a seriously injured Wooden to start against Boyd. What most people are unaware of is that Wooden ALSO tore his ACL 3 months later and required COMPLETE reconstructive ACL surgery at the end of March. He was told by doctors that his chances of playing football his senior year was slight and that his high school career was pretty much over. With that said, Wooden spent hundreds of hours in accelerated rehab during the summer, including weekends, to prove his critics wrong. Amazingly, ONLY 5 MONTHS after a complete reconstruction of his ACL, Wooden was able to start in Week 0 against East Robertson. From what I understand, Wooden was not even cleared to start JOGGING, not running, until the first week of August. Throughout the year, Wooden struggled to return to his previous form having absolutely no offseason to prepare since he was always in rehab and the first few weeks of the season were more like conditioning/training for him. After a few games, DCA's coaching staff decided that Wooden would be more important for the 2nd part of the season and pulled him from the starting line-up so that he could continue rehab. DCA had a stretch of games that it played much weaker teams and so Wooden was not needed, so his health was not jeopardized. There were several games that Wooden DID NOT EVEN DRESS and there have only been 3, YES 3 out of 14 games so far that Wooden and this first string offense was NOT pulled in the third or fourth quarter where Wooden could have REALLY increased his numbers. Wooden's season numbers are so far down because he has not played, or even dressed, in several of DCA's midseason games where his back-ups have "held down the fort" while he rehabs for the postseason. Now that Wooden has had so much time to rehab, from what I understand, he is completely healthy with NO side-effects from the surgery. The numbers he is putting up in the post season against playoff teams is just, what I believe, a margin of what he could have done against weaker teams during the year when he didn't even play. I hope this answers any questions someone might have about Wooden. I believe he is the best back in 1A but was discounted in the "Mr. Football" finalist because he didn't play when he wasn't needed. Shame.
  4. As an unbiased parent whose child is only in elementary school and not on any team, and after watching different high school football teams and games this year in classifications 1-5 and one game with D2 schools, I can honestly say I believe Chris Wooden of DCA is the most competitve athelete I have seen this year. For those who are in East or West Tennessee and have never had a chance to actually see him and only base their opinions about Wooden on what they hear from this message board or other people, you may not understand what all the fuss is about. This young man is one of the most impressive running backs I have ever seen at the high school level and trust me, I've seen many runningbacks, I'm old. Plus he has class, which I appreciate as a parent. There's no "Look at me." with Wooden. It's only about the team. Also, Byrd of Cloudland is very impressive as I've heard he is being scouted by Carson-Newman and considered for Mr. Football. Congrats to both of these athletes on their accomplishments this year.
  5. I first began this topic in June after being astounded by Chris Wooden of DCA last year. Well, I've had a chance to see him twice this year, once as DCA defeated Ezell-Harding, and are amazed at the determination of this young man when he runs the ball. His running is so powerful that defenders have a difficult time stopping him. Plus, he has class. I've never seen him taunt the opposition after a touchdown and in his media interviews, he gives all credit to his offensive line. He never takes glory for himself. This young man is not only an all-star, but a class act, and as a father, I will take my son to see Chris Wooden anytime.
  6. Chris Wooden of DCA. He had 28 carries for 225 yards and 3 touchdowns against an Ezell-Harding team that most people in Tennessee picked to not only beat DCA, but contend for a state championship.
  7. As a parent with a child in middle school in Nashville, I always find it enjoyable to take my son to a high school football game on Friday nights. Last year we went to see Donelson Christian Academy play and I was astounded by their tailback Chris Wooden. In fact, he amazed me so much that my son and I went to two more home games just to see him play. I later learned that Wooden had over 1,000 all-purpose yards his freshman year and over 1,000 rusing yards his sophomore year. Has anyone else seen him play? For an upcoming junior, he was exciting to watch. I'd like to know if any other *non-biased* forum members have had a chance to see this young man play and have as much regard for this young man as my son and I.
  8. I enjoy attending mid-state prep football games and have had an opportunity to go to 2 of DCA's games this year and I have to say that Chris Wooden is an incredible running back. The fact that he is only a sophomore and already has 650 yards in 4 games is incredible. If you have an opportunity to watch this young man in a game sometime,I suggest you do, it would be worth the money.
  9. DCA's sophomore running back Chris Wooden will be one to watch this year. Last year, as a true freshman, he had over 1,000 all purpose yards with over 900 of those yards rushing. At the jamboree last friday night he had 114 yards and 2 touchdowns on 11 carries in only 1 1/2 quarters of play.
