  1. OC does have a running game, though it is not near what Covington will have. It relies on getting mismatches on the defense and then running where the defense is weakest. OC doesnt have, and probably never will have the speed of Covington, but when the defense focuses on the pass and drops back into coverage, OC will try to hit them quick. OC doesnt have the power set to run over defenses, but decent speed to attack when they need to.
  2. After having played against him, Al Wilson from Jackson Central Merry would stand out as one of the best. We scrimmaged them in '93 or '94. He had the quickest first step i've ever seen. He was in our backfield before we could get the ball to our RB's, and that wasn't even on blitzes. He made his reads and got to the ball, almost instinctively. This was just about the time he was debating which college to attend, and a news helicopter from Memphis landed right beside the field and interviewed him. he chose the right school and was a BIG reason the Vols won the National Championship in 98. Now starting for the Denver Broncos at Middle Linebacker. He was also a heck of a tailback.
  3. This could be a good game, but I think Westview is just too strong. Humboldt has a very talented team, but they haven't come together as a team. It wont be a blowout, but I feel that Westview will come out on top.
  4. Much of Obion Co's passing game involves short screens and laterals to running backs and receivers. Though they are thrown as forward passes, since they are caught behind the line and blockers are out in front, they are technically running plays. I know, they are not handoffs, but still, when these are averaged in, OC averages better than 200 yards on the ground. I agree that Obion Co hasnt seen a defense with the speed or athletes that Covington will throw at them. But Covington hasn't seen an offense as versitile and unpredictable as the one OC will bring Friday night this year, either. Good luck to both teams.
  5. OC does have the team speed to keep the Chargers from getting to the corner. If they ever do make it to the corner, then Covington will probably score. Thats not a question. But, whichever team executes best (Offense, Defense, & Special Teams) will win the game. By no means am I guaranteeing an Obion Co. win. But at the same time, a Covington win isn't a given either. I agree that a win against Lake County doesnt prove anything. A win against the Titans wouldn't mean much either. Thats why the game will be played this Friday. Regardless of the outcome, it will be fun to watch.

    3A undefeateds

These two teams will go after each other Friday, and while one will leave with a loss, they should still finish 1-2 in 7-3A. Neither have beaten a star-caliber team, though Covington's win against Brighton is legitimate and OC's vins vs Ripley and McKenzie show that they have matured. Should be a barnburner in Tipton County.
  7. Prepfootball- I've seen film on Covington, too. But last time I checked, FILM has never won a game. Im not bashing Covington, or even predicting an OC win; I just said it would be a good game.
  8. Obion County travels to Covington Friday to battle the Chargers for the top spot in 7-3A. Covington is the class of the region, but Obion County is gaining respect every week. With the passing attack and quick strike ability of the Rebels, fans should be in for a treat in Covington this week. Could be one of the better games in West Tn, along with Milan vs Union City. What are some other views on this game??

    ocrebel

sls- last I heard, and this is rumor, ware was dismissed from the team for attitude or something to that effect. but, that is just rumor. Coach greer will have the boys ready to play. it will be "fun-and-gun" just like the football team
  10. OCRebel- Did you play for Obion Co?? I did (a few years back). When did you play??
  11. Which team has the best passing attack, from the QB to the Running Backs to the Receivers?? How did they fare over the first 2 weeks of the season??

    best quaterbacks

I agree OC REBEL Wes will be turning some heads, and I wouldnt be surprised if some of those heads are college scouts.........

    Humboldt

Word form the Humboldt players--- Humboldt played badly, Dresden played tough. Both teams missed opportunities. Humboldt felt they were better, but Dresden outplayed them that night.
  14. 1. Bruceton vs Huntingdon 2. Milan vs Humboldt 3. (tie) JCM vs Haywood Co Westview vs Union City
  15. Jewel Flowers of Lake County (92-95) had more natural ability than almost anyone during that time. The combination of speed and power was very uncharacteristic. And if you weren't careful, he would knock your head off from his LB/SS position. He had one of the best seasons in TN history (1994) when he rushed for more than 2000 yards and led Lake County to the Clinic Bowl (loss to South Pittsburg by less than a touchdown). As far as an entire career, Joe Longmire from Bruceton or Nick Hampton from Westview have to be considered among the best. Also, after playing against Kelsey Williams of Humboldt in 1995 and having him rip us for 462 all-purpose yards and about 5 TD's (rushing, kick return, and punt return), he would have my vote too.
  16. redrules- sorry I took so long to get back to you... Kim Decker has been the coach of the Lady Rebels for the past 10 years or so, and now she has stepped down to devote more time to family. Spencer Hoffman (OCCHS alumni) takes over after being an assistant to Decker last year. He most recently built Trenton Peabody to a prominent state power. He has a good bit of talent and tons of desire to make OCCHS a state power as well.
  17. No doubt Gibson Co is loaded with the talent similar to that of the late 80's-early 90's and will be the favorite. Westview will be tough as usual, and could very well lead the Blue and Gold to the District Crown. But, dont count out Spencer Hoffman's OCCHS Lady Rebels. This team could turn heads. Throw in Dyer Co and Crockett Co's athleticism, and this could be the most fun district in the state to watch, and undoubtedly one of the toughest to play in. On any given night, some of these teams should be toe to toe. Look for AT LEAST one and probably two of these teams to be in Murfreesboro, and a gold ball coming to 13AA wouldn't be a far-fetched idea.
  18. Mean Jean- i agree with TheBoredGuy. I wasnt at all trying to take anything away from you or your work. Thanks for all that you do. i just hate to see people get mad over a prediction. Keep up the good work.
  19. I agree with slim: too much emphasis on last year's rankings. And, was Bruceton Central on the 1A list? I might have just overlooked them.
  20. MaryvilleRebels- I wasnt bashing the post; I was just saying that its nothing to get mad and upset about just because a particular team wasnt ranked high enough. I enjoy seeing and talking about rankings, but I also know to take them with a grain of salt, because thats just what they are: conversation pieces. Like I said, I'm not bashing Mean Jean, the post, nor the work put into it. I just hate to see other people get mad over a hypothetical prediction. Thats why I said lets not WORRY about the rankings. Talking about them is great, but lets not get irate about them. I apologize if I was misunderstood. Go Rebels!! (Im from Obion County, and we're the Rebels, too!!)
  21. this is not meant to offend anyone, but rankings usually dont mean much on Friday nights. Lets talk about rankings about the 2nd week of December.
  22. Who are some of the top teams in northwest Tennessee? Which teams this season will return several key players? I know there will be some great teams, so who should we keep an eye on?
