Brynn Thompson-Renz and family are flying over the UK right now, 8 hours and 14 minutes from Charlotte. Then on to Nashville and 28 days in Lawrenceburg!

Much-needed rain at my house. Wasn't sure zoysia would recover from last frost before the heat got it.

Early start tomorrow. Vandy Eye Institute at 7:30 to evaluate both eyes. Should learn a lot about where we are in all of this.

OK, here is what I know now: the shingles virus is much better, no neckache for the first time in months and no headache for the first times is weeks, but it has done its share of damage to my right retina. Next week we will do laser surgery on the retina in my left eye because the damage is minimal and the prognosis is good. That will give medication extra time to work on my right eye before we laser it, too. (This is not lasix. Laser. Very different but safe.) Prognosis on right eye is that...

To answer all of the messages at once: got a call this morning from Vandy Eye Institute with test results. My problem all along has now been identified as the shingles. Instead of striking the normal way it is in my spinal fluid and in my eyes (and, therefore, everywhere else, I assume). Back to Nashville Monday morning for another shot in my right eye. Trying to limit the damage to that eye for now, since it is the worst, and keep the other from getting this bad. Eating steroids like candy i...

Tired of doing health updates update: went to eye doctor who said "holy #*%$" and sent me to a specialist in Columbia who said "holy #*%$" and got me an appointment with the Eye Institute at Vanderbilt on Wednesday to which I said "holy #@%$". Actually, I have exactly what I thought- the fluid in the back of my eye is cloudy because of the same condition I had in my spinal fluid. In the eye the condition is known as uveitis. Health Update: much better. Still sleeping 12 hours a day only because I hate to sleep 15. Can't see much out of my right eye but that should clear up. Coffee tastes awful!

Walking pretty well now. The crap that was/is in my spinal fluid is now in the fluid in my right eye so vision is blurred but should be temporary. Was going to start going to spring sports this week but can't focus the camera. Never knew how right-eye dominant I am. May go fishing for awhile tomorrow, though.

Ate at Marvin's Family Restaurant on the bypass in Fayetteville, TN today. Great buffet. Turnip greens, fried chicken, meatballs, catfish, broiled fish, pinto beans, cherry cobbler, etc 6.95 plus drink.
