  1. The Stangs got their Cougar meat tonight with a 21-16 win. The Mustang defense fought hard all night. They contained Turner, and he was a factor but not a helpful one. With the score 21-10, Goodpasture scored a TD but was called back because Turner took his time lining up. Other big stats, Rogers with a TD and an interception(he is a true high school player who never comes off the field). Hillin with a nice grab for a TD as well. Then , Elrod broke the Cougars back with a long td run in the fourth. Great game by both teams , but the Stangs had a few more playmakers.
  2. Regardless of the rumors that have been running wild on the Lipscomb campus today, the Stangaroos still do eat Cougar Meat.
  3. What does a man have to do around here to get some football talk? This has turned outrageous. We got talk about denominations ranging all the way to tubas. I havent calculated, but I would be willing to wager that 75% of these posts have nothing to do with football. This is the biggest football game in 2A football in the regular season(sorry Milan and Huntingdon) and the talk of this board is making it sound like this is the Stewart Co. vs. Houston Co. game. Come on guys lets get serious because game day is rapidly approaching. So to the game at hand here, does anyone know who has the best sideline camera man between these two teams? I feel this could be a big part of the game. If twittycanes and company are able to take pictures from the right angles I feel that Turner will drop a few passed due to the flash. However, if they fail to step up to the challenge the Stangs could be in for a long night. What is the scouting report on Goodpasture's camera man? I will be interested to see how this will play out on Friday night, and until next time please keep this thread about the game and not about personal nonsense.
  4. Wow if I am counting right on 2aguru's post.......the east has won 8 of the last 10 championships....so what is this westtn guy acting like the west is so superior for?
  5. Simmer children. All this judicial stuff is giving me a headache. So back to the game. What are Goodpastures running backs looking like this year? They have had great backs for as long as i can remember. Is this year any different? Im going out on a limb with a prediction......DL-27 GP13
  6. Well I dont think we will know the answer to this one until early December when the teams square off. Who knows Alcoa could be the best team in the east though. As the past 2 years in 2A have shown, there is no way to predict what will happen. DL was picked to lose by many in 2002 when they handled Mitchell, and the opposite happened last year. So who knows and who cares? Its September and a long time away til any of these teams would play. But for what it is worth DL and Goodpasture have dominated 2A football the last 10 years so i would assume they are "capable". 2A Champions and Runner Ups since 1994: 2003- Huntingdon , David Lipscomb 2002- David Lipscomb, Mitchell 2001- Goodpasture, Westview 2000- Alcoa , Union City 1999- Goodpasture, Huntingdon 1998- Milan , David Lipscomb 1997- Tyner , Union City 1996- Knox Webb , Goodpasture 1995- Goodpasture , Meigs Co. 1994 - David Lipscomb , Harriman Lets do some calculating now: Championships for Goodpasture and Lipscomb- 5 Runner Ups for Goodpasture and Lipscomb- 3 So maybe that will answer your question if these teams are "capable".
  7. DLballer11, what your basis for telling a legend on here that he isnt allowed to post? What is the last intelligent football comment you have made on CoachT? Thats what i thought. Back to the game or should i say lets start talkin about the game. DL and Goodpasture is always a classic battle. DL has won the last two meetings which were the playoff game in 2002(28-0) and last years nailbiter(38-35). Rogers and Turner will be the feature matchup, yet I believe that might become overhyped. I believe this one will come down to who can win the battle in the trenches. I am takin the Stangs in a close one. ill have my actual score later in the week.
  8. Grizzly would you please read before you make obsurd comments with no basis. ROGERS IS NOT PLAYING RECEIVER!! And the last time I checked you normally dont have many receiving yards when you dont play receiver. Once again, this thread is not about Travis Sikes, yet some have felt the need to turn it into Rogers vs. Sikes. This is about congratulating Austin on an accomplishment which he has worked hard for and deserves. He is a great young man so compliment the kid and get over it. The same will be done when Travis commits to his school of choice.
  9. You have now struck a nerve with me. I, for one, consider them a SEC team. Lets run over a few things: Mens B-ball -Sweet 16 Womens B-ball- Sweet 16 Baseball- Super Regional Mens and Womens Tennis- Sweet 16 Wow, I see a pattern developing here. Looks like a legit SEC athletic program to me. Yes, they havent had much success in football, but you have to look at stuff as a whole. Therefore, I happen to believe that they are SEC quality.
  10. For $10 that better not be carp! It better be some sort of grilled or smoked salmon. I think Id rather save my $10 because I think the Mustangs will score enough touchdowns to feed the 5,000(Mustang fans that is). Go Stangaroos and tame "the jungle" once again.
  11. What problems? Last year if i recall correctly Lipscomb won 42-14. There is no scoreboard nor referee who can make up 28 points for you. In 2001, Lipscomb won 28-21, therefore maybe a flag could have helped...but the clock and scoreboard were functioning the entire game. Mustangs by a touchdown if all "ticks" right.
  12. Oh, I thought everyone knew of the mysterious flags. Apparently our good friend mctigerfan hasnt heard. Well in the game in '02 at your place several phantom pass interference calls were made, including one at the goal line before half time(The Purple Wall rose to the challenge and made up for it). Then we all remember the "Marshall County Miracle"-The day time stood still. In the 2000 game the last two minutes of the game was more like 5. Every time Lipscomb took the lead in the game the scoreboard "mysteriously" went out. Therefore the clock was kept on the field. How convenient. Will these mystery elements appear again? Only time will tell.
  13. It seems to me that the "scaredy stang's" post wasnt really intended to disrespect herndon. It was simply a post sayin that herndon didnt strike fear in him because he has played against other great players. Herndon is a great player, and we will all see if he is capable to play at the big time SEC level. However, in 2Aguru's defense he was on a team that brought home both the gold and silver balls something Herndon and Greenbrier has yet to do. If we are going to single out players and name drop then im sure that Guru could do the same. His sophomre year he played with Ethan Flatt now the second string quaterback at Ole Miss. then the past two seasons he played with Austin "the rocket" Rogers who will have a chance to play at the highest level in the SEC(meaning UT or Georgia). Also, last but not least, he played with Johnny "the silver bullet" "broke the fan" Coles. Johnny had a stint at Ut as a longsnapper and was also asked to be moved to fullback by the "Fat Man on the Hill". So valiant effort but try again later.
  14. Why does it matter how many posts someone has? His post seems to be twice as logical as yours GBT. As for bringing that kid a bag, im sure he will be fine. Herndon is a great player but if he has played the last two years im sure he has played against the likes of Patrick Turner and Marcus Buggs over at Goodpasture. Turner which is the number 2 receiver in the country and Buggs who has reportedly proven himself in practice as a legit SEC player. So i would say its safe to say that Herndon doesnt strike fear in him, especially if he wont even be on the field Friday night. We look forward to seein the stangs in a few weeks! They have a great program and we have the upmost respect for them.
  15. Easttnfootballexpert- Who are all these great teams we are hearing about from East Tennessee. Your earlier post has a bunch of should have , could have but didn't arguments. Come on now, have some proof to back up the mighty east. Last years state champs which is all that matters(not who beat them in the regular season or who might should have beat them) here they are: 1A- CPA 2A- DL 3A- Ridgeway 4A- Maryville 5A- Brentwood Now if my math is good that is 3 for middle tn,1 for east tn,and 1 for west tn Looks like the best teams are over in the middle part of the state!!
  16. They lost 5 starters on defense and 7 on offense so they return a decently experienced group of players.
  17. Lipscomb returns a strong core of defensive starters that include linemen David Abbas and Brandon Tidwell, Linebackers Madison Taylor and Adam Valentine, and Safeties Ryan Blankenship and Clay Lehning. The offense returns Burton Elrod at QB and Cutler Robertson at RB along with a couple linemen.
  18. David Lipscomb Mustangs- http://www.mustangfanpage.com Home of the 1994 and 2002 2-A State Champions
  19. What about that 5.2 forty that he runs? That kind of time will definitely get you to the college level ( at waterboy).
  20. Schlappe is not 6'2 155. He might be 6'0 on a good day and he ran his 40 in 5.2 at the combine. How does he expect to escape defensive lineman running that slow. Also, I cant figure out why the DL game is a tossup when they beat GP 29-o last year. I think both games will be won by DL and GP by at least two touchdowns.
  21. Liupscomb played good ball today to defeat the Bobcats easily , 6-1. The Mustangs got a strong pitching performance from Adam Bland. Also Jamie Wilkerson had a great day at the plate for the Mustangs. There was definitely not a "spanking" put on by the Bobcats like some suggested there might be. The Mustangs now will play the loser of Walker Valley\ Meigs Co. at home on Friday afternoon.
  22. Lipscomb will win this one because of their hitting. They are blasting the ball right now and I look for it to continue tomorrow. The young pitching will be sufficient enough for the Mustangs to get the win. Behind the bats of Lehning, Stinson, Martin, and Mcafee, I see a trip to Memphis in their near future. Prediction: DL- 5 GHS- 3
  23. Well, Ezell will get their chance to see a whole lot of that Wing T offense from their butts. As teams with TRADITION such as Goodpasture and Lipscomb humble the Eagles. I want to see them run up the score on these two teams then they can come back and talk. As for the all- world receiver J Gattis who I"ve never heard of , I would be careful what I said because there are a few boys out there from these two teams who will flat out lock up on you. Lipscomb is accustomed to defending 6'6 Patrick Turner, the best receiver in the state, so I think they can hang with you. So Ezell run that pro style offense and go 3 and out( and win a championship once every 20 years with some "transfers") and the wing T schools will win champioships on a regular basis.( Goodpasture '95,'99,'01)(DL '94,"98 runner-up, '02). Well you can make fun of the offense if you want to but it has proven results over a period of years and will continue to do so. Will see you week 0 and week 10.
  24. Caesar dont worry too much because Ezell will be brought back to earth from their little run of dominance by two powerhouses with TRADITION. Will see if they can run up the score on Goodpasture and Lipscomb?
  25. I appreciate the help, any other area teams going to these camps?
