  1. As far as knowledge and sophistication, no one holds a candle to Les Steckel, Offensive Co-ordinator at Brentwood. High school athletes (and coaches) get to pick the brain of a man who took teams to the Super Bowl, has both Pro and collegiate head coaching experience. Absolutely nothing any team can throw at the Bruins has not been schemed and disected. As he once said, "when you've schemed against Bilicheck and Buddy Ryan, high school is pretty simple." However, like at all levels, you have to execute to win. But more importantly his high character and teaching style will have impact far beyond high school football. Growing exceptional young men is far more important than winning games. Truly a unique and wonderful experience for everyone.

  2. Chump, you've got some serious issues in your life that you need to deal with. WesVols is informative, provacative, intelligent, and above all literate. You, my jealous friend, are none of the above. He has opinions and is entitled to share them intelligently. You on the other hand, show real insecurity if you are threatened by an opinion of someone on an internet chat site. And to make your handle Ihatewesvols? Seek Therapy, leave BA and seek schooling at home, and Keep up the good work WesVols.

  3. Despite whats been reported in the newspapers about the apparent reasons (?) for the homicide, let us still keep his friends, and especially his parents, in our prayers. They are faced with an enormous tragedy, and I am sure they are experiencing guilt and anger as well. Mr. and Mrs. Bochette; you are not at fault and it is impossible to answer the question "why." Despite our best efforts, kids will make poor decisions. I hope you avail yourself of counseling as it will help you through this. No one who truly cares will be making judgements about your son or you. God bless and comfort you during this time.

  4. When it rains, the advantage goes to the underdog and the playing field gets leveled out. Passing is tricky in the rain, however, it is more problematic for the DB's. Overall tackling suffers greatly unless you really wrap up.

Evidence for the defense of this statement: UT-Florida, FSU-Louisville. Centennial may have problems with their multitude of times they handle the ball within a play which can cause turnovers. See: Brentwood vs. Centennial

Personally, we all need to dry out some.

  5. I surely hope to God that this is just a case of a young man being confused and taking some time away for himself, and not something more tragic. I had the pleasure of seeing him play when the team I follow played against Mt.Juliet. He was a quality ball player and from all accounts from Bear faithful, a quality young man. We as football fans don't realize the pressures they face daily, not only as athletes, but as young men. We need to listen more, help more, try more-and not be so quick to criticize or put more pressure on them. My prayers are with the family and friends who know him best.

I'm not a Centennial fan, and before the Brentwood/Centennial game I didn't beleive in them one bit...but they proved something to everyone around here against Brentwood...this Centennial team can't be taken lightly, Brentwood got lucky to come away with a win...

i agree with u. i thought brentwood a was big bad 5-A team but after the performance agianst us (page) they didnt showm me anything thats was good. if brentwood stays at home they win everygame. if brentwood leaves home field and plays away they will lose. and then u ask y its cus of the REFS. but now i have respect for chs there a good ball club now but they a long rest of the season. so good luck on your season. for brentwood stay at home if u plan on winning cus if u dont u will lose every game. if i had anything to do with the ratings i would put chs in the top 10 and bhs in the top 30.

I get a real kick out of the Page mastery of the English language; almost as much as their altered perception of reality. So the officials were pulling for Brentwood, huh? Is that why 2 touchdowns were called back on calls some 40 yards away from the play on the complete opposite side of the field? Is that why personal fouls were called against BHS after a Page player speared him in the back in the endzone? Get real-the refs didn't lose the game for you. As for Centennial-Franklin: This will be a war, with both teams extremely confident. If the Cougars can take Rebs out of the passing game, this could be real close. If Rebs stop Cougar running attack, Franklin has it easy. Kicking game is definite plus for Franklin; I go with Franklin by 10 pts.

  7. Be very wary of the tackle statistics. They are totally dependent on how they count the "tackles." As an example, was the player the primary tackler or the secondary tackler? If he was gang tackled, who gets the stat-not all of them obviously. I've seen in the past players listed averaging 19 tackles a game-that figure is totally unrealistic. I tend to err on the conservative. Players will not usually be in a position to average a large number of individual take downs; more than likely they are assists rather than solos. It is the most subjective statistic out there.

  8. Is this some kind of urban-legend-smokescree-internet-hoax or what? Without independent confirmation or a statement by the Coach, that's all there is to it. Don't believe for a second that BHS will expect a senior-less Page team to show up for the game. They expect Page to bring their "A" Game (and "A" team) and nothing less-and are preparing for such.

  9. No, it may be fun to play in the rain, but it stinks to sit and watch it in the rain-unless you're kicking someone's tail. Rain mitigates talent levels and makes slower, straight ahead teams (like Ohio, PA, and Michigan)on an equal footing. And don't even talk about snow-nothing is worse than getting your frozen fingers crushed between facemasks and hearing bones creak, and when you get into the locker room everything is slush. I mean, three yards and a clod of mud is not fun football-give me 60 degrees, a slight breeze and a sunny day anytime!

  10. Wow, it is way too early to even speculate-while all those teams mentioned have a shot, injuries, playing conditions, the ZEBRAS, breaks, could all impact the playoff pairings, which IMO, has as much to do with the eventual champions as anything. Regarding Franklin being champions, one critical question that will be asked (until they win a championship)is big game playoff experience. That is one reason why Riverdale and others are consistently in the championship game. Not superior personnel always, but superior experience. Each round of the playoffs is a new and different animal. Competition gets tougher, pressure grows, weather changes-and then the ZEBRAS! A lot of big games left for everyone!

Suggestion for radio and "delayed tape" broadcasters: Give the basic information each play. i.e. "3rd down and four yards to go on the opponents 22" Especially radio announcers, I've had to listen to games and acually tried to "pencil and paper" where the ball was because no mention of ball position was stated. With television tape delay broadcasts the same applies. At times the camera person is focusing on the group on the line of scrimmage and the viewer (in this case me) cannot see exactly where the ball is spotted. You folks do a great job, but this sure would help.

Sure, I'd love to make it to all of my favorite team's friday night games, but it just isn't possible.

Take note of some great announcers like Frank Gifford or Keith Jackson. You knew exactly, every play, where the ball was, who had it, what the gain or loss was, and the score.

You're appreciated for what you do. If you want to interpret this as "constructive criticism" okay.

Thanks for letting me bend you ear.

A few tips that were given to me by Craig James, who now runs a broadcasting school for ex-jocks looking to make it into broadcasting:

    1. Take an egg timer. Call the time, and score. Turn the egg timer over. When it empties, repeat the time and score.

    2. Every play call down and distance.

    3. Every third down, first down, and change of possession remind the viewer of field position.

    4. Don't feel compelled to talk all the time-let the pictures convey the meaning. Your job is to provide the context.

    5. Be yourself, have your own style, speak conversationally and to the viewer.

    Hope this helps

  12. There is absolutely no truth to any rumor that BHS will play their JV against Page. The only way the JV plays is if, like in any normal game with any team, the score gets out of hand either way. I would expect if Page was up 40-0 that they would play their JV as well. We should all cut the rhetoric because none of it matters once the ball is kicked off. Good luck Friday night, may the best team win.

What was this reaction some of the CHS players had that was so classless?

Not doubting you, but I didn't get to go to the game, so I'm uninformed here.

As for Page and Brentwood, I dont see it being a defensive struggle. I see Brentwood jumping out fast and Page settling down for a while, and eventually the depth of the Bruins will take over and they'll pull away.

    I'm guessin 35-17

What I saw and heard was after the game when the teams were done with their respective post-game huddles. Players shook each others hands and exchanged greetings. Remember, many of these players have known each other for years. One incident happened when a certain running back who I sought out to congratulate said to me "Get out of my face (expletive) I told him he did well and not to ruin it and he then cussed me out again. A second player said to no one in particular, maybe to me, "you stink." Post game other BHS players said they had trouble with some (I repeat SOME) of the opposition who wouldn't accept the handshakes.

Ok, I understand frustration and the empty feeling of coming so close, but accept the results and the accolades of the other team. They respected your effort and you did perform well under difficult circumstances. The respect of your opponent was well-earned. It's called sportsmanship. Don't lose it by your attitude! On the other hand I congratulated a number of CHS players who showed maturity and class and will acheive future victories because of this attitude. It was just one game-one heart thumping game. Learn and grow.

  14. This won't even be close. Page has neither the experience, nor the talent, nor the depth. Like last year, this is an unfortunate mismatch. In regards to the Centennial BHS game, in which segment of the game did they outplay Brentwood? Scoreboard? Kicking game? Turnovers? Good job of preparing for the game, the defense caused some problems but the weather was the real mitigating factor. What was sad was the reaction by certain Cougar football players after the game. Yes it was a tough loss, yes you thought you could've won the game, but the poor sportsmanship shown by some (and not the vast majority who were very classy in defeat and earned respect) showed you're lack of experience-which is in large part why you lost the game.

  15. Franklin and Centennial are both the surprise teams of Region 6. Gut instinct is that Franklin is better than Centennial,i.e FHS is a more dangerous team to play. I am afraid that if Centennial gets behind, the wishbone offense is not one that can catch up easily. I think Brentwood has the most talent; however, penalties are not allowing their real potential to develop. The big ace in the whole is that no matter what scheme either of those teams try and run either offensively or defensively, if BHS executes, there won't be any more reason to ask the question. Game. Set. Match. Impossible to outcoach or outprepare the BHS staff-in game or out. Execution is the question.if BHS executes

  16. Nothing is wrong with Austen. All of his wide receivers graduated from last year, plus they have a new coach. Once he and the receivers get on the same page, things will open up. Against Clarksville, they didn't get a great chance to throw the ball in wet conditions. The running game exploded behind big "O" line, and once the damage was done there was no need to throw to move the ball. It is the same "O" as last year, and the number of run vs. plays are roughly equal. Defenses's are setting up to stop pass, leaving running lanes wide open-that he and Lifsey are exploiting.

  17. The stadium is 99% complete, with the completion date due today. Structural engineer has to sign-off, final electrical check, and it will be good to go. Only thing not yet ready is press-box, which will be up by Ryan game. Backup plan is Ravenwood HS. Big crowd expected so come early.
