  1. I would agree with you 100% about the coaching and work the Fayetteville staff have invested in these young men.  They have taken student athletes that otherwise would not have sniffed the playing field in a much larger program/school like LC, save maybe one or two outstanding players, and taken them to playoff rounds in 2 of the 3 years of the program.

    ....

Using your same argument, LCHS should disband completely and let all the previous high schools (that consolidated to form LCHS) crank up their own football programs so that more kids could play football...but not have opportunities for auto shop, machine shop and other vocational programs that a large school can afford...but you'll still spend more tax money to do it, since you'll need more teachers, principals, janitors, etc.

Think about it...when the Fayetteville City Council voted to form their own city school system (never mind that LCHS wasn't overcrowded at the time), who really benefited?  Folks who deal in finance and folks who deal in real estate.  Now, what are the professions of the folks on the city council?  Hmmmm....

  2. Growing up in Texas during the 70's it was easy to be both a Cowboys fan and an Oilers fan since the teams were in separate conferences - I thought it would be awesome for both to make it to the Super Bowl.  Alas, the 70's Steelers were a bane to both teams....

Bum was a class act - he never wore his trademark hat in a closed stadium - when asked why he said "Mama always said that if it can't rain on you, you're indoors."

  3. I am a Lincoln County Falcon fan all the way but I am also one that speaks truth. I will probably take some heat for what I am about to say but I am going to say it. The Falcons did not seem to have the same heart that I have seen in the games before last night. I don't know if it was the fall break that did it or what but I don't believe Shelbyville was 41 points better than the Falcons. Does anyone think that Shelbyville was that much better than Lincoln County or did Lincoln County just have a really bad night?

I noticed it last week at times...they had their ups and downs last week but managed more ups...looks like this week they had nothing but downs. No way is Shelbyville 41 points better than the Falcon team...at least when it's up....

  4. On the punt, they said the Franklin player hit the punter before he had actually punted the ball which makes that a legal hit.  But Jabbo, you are correct in that the referees looked lost most of the game.  It wouldn't have mattered though.  Franklin has a good team and has one of the best punters I have seen in high school in a long time.  His hang time and distance was amazing. Good luck to Franklin and the Falcons the rest of the season.  Go Falcons!!!!!!!!!

I understand the legal hit, but what happened to cause the penalty and do-over?  I didn't see a flag before the ball was snapped, the flag came after the hit....

And yes, that punter was amazing...the ball looked like it was just floating.

  5. Franklin is certainly the best team the Falcons have played so far this season.  It seemed to me that the Falcons didn't have the focus and determination that they've shown in all the other games so far.

The refs were a hoot last night - they had lots of committee meetings, and seemed confused a lot of the time.  Does anyone know what the deal was on the play where the Falcon punter was hit?  I thought it was going to be roughing the punter, but the end result was a 5 yard penalty on the Falcons and a do-over on the punt....

  6. My 2 cents , which is exactly worth that much. As someone who has attended all of the Rebels games this year I think both Clarkville NE (3-2) and Shelbyville (2-2) are both decent teams and McGavock (2-3) had some really good athletes, so the opposing record Stat is misleading as Dickson County (0-5) accounts for the majority of the opposing team losses. Also should point out that the Rebels last scrimmage before the season started was against MBA, who is no slouch. The rebels won 13 to 10 over MBA, now granted it was just a scrimmage game but the Rebels looked very good.

The Rebels defense is solid and 2 Stats pretty much tell the story. The Rebels have 17 Sacks and 7 INT's so far this year. They attack the ball and not many teams have been able to consistently run or throw effectively against the Rebels defense.

They are very balanced on offense averaging 174 yards on the ground and 162 yards in the air each game. With 9 different receivers with catches and 4 separate RB's getting touches out of the backfield, the Rebels spread the ball around with many different looks.

One thing that is not talked about much that has a huge impact on most games that I have to point out is their special teams are really good. No team has had a kick off return on the Rebels as each kickoff sails out of the back of the end zone with 17 touch backs this year. Their kicker nailed a 47 yard field goal that looked like it would have been good from 60 and slightly missed left, with plenty of distance a 49 yard attempt this past game. This same kid also punts and this past game punted 2 inside the 10 yard line and 3rd punt inside the 3.

Impressive.  The main weapon that the Falcons bring is a disciplined team that doesn't give up and can make coaching adjustments on the fly from coaches that know their stuff.  I'm expecting a great game tonight!!!!

  7.

I want to know who is the coach that has the black glasses he coaches oline i think just want to say he is awsome he is always coaching the offense up always showing what they need to do to adjust and i think he is exactly what LC needed good job coach ........

I haven't met Joe Moos, but I agree completely with your comments. He no doubt is a major factor contributing to the team's success. I've also noticed that the defense has a lot more hustle this year - when the whistle blows the play dead there is a swarm (flock?) of Falcons near the ball. Good job tonight Falcons!!!!

  8. What drives me nuts is watching the "laying on of hands" attempt at tackling. A defender may not be in the best position to execute a text book tackle on a ball carrier, but if he can get a hand on the guy he should be able to grab cloth - then either the cloth will rip off the guy or the guy will slow down. Giving him a quick rubdown won't do squat.

  9. Yeah I agree. Siegel was bigger and faster. We still missed a few opportunities that would have definitely made it interesting. Good luck the rest of te year Stars.

Proud of the Falcons for not giving up.

    Go FALCONS!!!!!!

The team shows a lot of heart and determination. Better tackling from the Falcons would have made the game more interesting also.

  10. Neither.

According to our records, one of your picks was made after the cutoff time (Jefferson Co./Tennessee). While we may not prevent you from picking after the time, no picks recorded after 6 PM central time count toward the Big Ones contest.

Also, orangecrush did not pick all 47 games.

So the Pick History includes picks made after the cutoff time?

  11. My Pick History shows that I've picked all 47 games, won 35 and missed 12, yet the Standings show I've picked 46 games, winning 34 and missing 12. I suspect that my nemesis orangecrush has picked all 47 games also. Are the Standings wrong or is my Pick History wrong?

  12. Well, the Falcons got beat by a bigger, stronger, and faster team. They started dragging a bit in the first half - it was nice to see them pick it up in the second. The Stars exposed Falcon weakness that no doubt will be addressed by the coaches as they get ready for Lawrence County.

    LC! LC! LC!

  13. Sweet, Maurice Patton really knows his high school football!!

    Last week he picked:

Giles Co. at Lincoln Co.: Former Lincoln County Coaches Louis Thompson and John Meadows, who combined for 32 seasons and three state championships, will be recognized prior to Friday’s game. The stadium — known as “The Pit†— will be dedicated as Meadows-Thompson Stadium. The only happy Falcon, current or former, at the end of the night will likely be Giles County Coach David O’Connor, who was set to return to his alma mater as Thompson’s replacement during the offseason before reversing field. Giles Co. 27, Lincoln Co. 21

Franklin at Siegel: This isn’t one of Franklin’s more talented teams, and the Rebels still remember their last trip to Rutherford County — a 42-0 pasting at Blackman in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs last year. But if Siegel can’t get some pressure on quarterback Matt Kuivinen, another Dandy Dozen member, the Rebels can put up some big numbers. Franklin 31, Siegel 21

Hopefully he will stay on his hot streak!!

Patton is just getting warmed up. He figures that he misjudged the Falcons last week. If memory serves me correctly the Stars let the Rebels score 20 unanswered points in the 2nd half, managed to connect with an 85 yard TD pass, then let the Rebels score again! Well.... The Falcons will give their best effort for all four quarters - let's see how it ends up!! :thumb:

    LC! LC! LC!

  14. Falcons win it 27-14.

The Bobcats have some serious talent and speed - from my vantage point it seemed like they tended to lose focus and get a bit rattled when the chips were down - that should improve during the season, at which time they'll be serious contenders.

The Falcons were impressive, especially for a young and relatively small team. They played with heart, determination, and discipline - it was one of the best games I've seen from a team like that. They'll be serious contenders also as they improve.

  15. Here's an article some may want to read.

Fire is fueled in Friday Night battle at M.T.S.

quote on OC turning down LCHS job from the article:

"Many comments throughout the community went negative on O'Connor's lack of commitment. One of the more popular seemed to be "they call him 'Punk' for a reason" - additional speculation said O'Connor used the opportunity to get a better deal at Giles Co. Given the benefit the change in the City system as the cause it leaves question as to the whether O'Connors commitment was high enough to compete. O'Connor's heart may not have been in it from the beginning."

No need of name calling, we got him and his staff. OC along with his staff work hard, and are dedicated to the program. No one points finger's at someone for making a job change. It's a job, and the entire Giles County Coaching Staff, put's in way more hours then the average coach. This will show in tonight's game.

GO BOBCATS! Thanks to the coaching staff and the Team for all the hard work, and dedication.

The announcement of the city high school being formed was a perfectly valid reason for O'Connor to change his mind. He committed to a particular situation and then that situation changed drastically.

Now, I don't doubt that some folks felt insulted when he changed his mind, but that's their problem, not his.

Concerning Osteen's change of heart, let's focus on a particular passage in the article:

At the end of the Falcons spring practice in May, a privilege rumored that Coach O'Connor was denied due to TSSAA violations at Giles Co., Osteen announced he would return to the Bobcats after working with the LCHS offense for five months.

Now, I don't have any idea how a "privilege can rumor", but if folks around here were spreading crap like that about O'Connor then I don't blame Osteen for heading back west.

Not that I know any of the inside details of any of this - I'm just a simple Lincoln County Falcon fan that gets sad when crap like this happens - the adults play their ego games and the players suffer. :(

  16. Wow. The Fayetteville City school board thinks it's a good idea to create a city high school...in the middle of a depressed economy...and will offer open enrollment...so county kids that go to the city school will be ostracized by other county kids...county kids will be ostracized by city kids...city taxes will go up to support the redundant costs associated with extra teachers and school administrators....

I don't blame O'Connor for seriously reconsidering the move - things will be chaotic for several years - only an idiot would walk into a situation like that. All Lincoln County sports will suffer, along with Lincoln County academics as the coaches and teachers jockey back and forth.

Hopefully the voters in the city will recognize the arrogance of the Fayetteville city school board members and vote every single one of them out of office in the next election.

Stupid is as stupid does...stupid arrogance is immeasurably worse. :(

  17. Wow, good sportsmanship SDC. I think you were reading too much into birdfans post. We played Riverdale earlier so we know what to expect in your next round. You will definitely have to play better to beat them, but that's why they play the game because things happen.

Good luck the rest of the way.

    GO FALCONS!!!!!

Absolutely right naildriver247! Soddy has a chance if the Trojans don't turn the ball over and don't give the Warriors freebies due to penalties. Tomahawk Stadium isn't the place one would choose to play the Warriors, but they've been beaten there before (need I say that Lincoln County was the first team to beat them there...and that was the season the Falcons went 4-7, and the Warriors ended that season losing to Brentwood in the state championship game!!!!)
