For those of you that were at the game......you witnessed something pretty special in baseball. BGA's
Freshman pitcher was given the ball in a pressure packed "do or die" situation for his team.
You would think at best, if he gets out of the first inning, he may last a few.......that's what made tonights performance by Freshman Matt Ridings so special........he pitched a complete game, a 6 hit
shut-out against a very good ball club, top 10 ranked in Middle TN.
BGA's young gun took the mound with the composure and poise of four year senior. Oh yes, he had
opportunity to lose focus, get down, rattled, etc. There were numerous borderline pitches that didn't
go his way......did he fold under a 2-0 count.....don't even think about it. If I'm not mistaken he
pitched his way out of every tight spot.
Entering the last two innings, he still had a sizzle on the fast ball, and would make a sniper faint
with his spotting ability. I can't imagine how high this kid's ceiling is.
I'm telling you folks, this young man has a bright future and one of the most humble young men you will
ever meet.
Was it luck, or were the stars all lined up for him........not if you consider this wasn't the first time this
season that he's shut down a good team.
Special or even Natural come to mind with his performance this afternoon. Nice job Matt!
To Him be the glory!
