  1. His name was Rodney Dale West and he played at Wake Forrest with Tim Duncan. I think he was only there 2 years.

Ah yes, now I remember he had one of those double southern names, Rodney Dale. Like Billy Joe Tombob, Billy Bob, etc.....He must have blocked a dozen shots when he came to Coalfield his sr. year. I think he was 7'1" or 7'2" but he probably didn't weigh 180 lbs.
  2. The only kids we get here with any size are not interested in sport. I don't know why but they are just not. We now have new coaches and new systems and I truly feel that the kids will be interested and want to play soon.

I remember several years ago Oneida had a big fellow at least 7' tall. I think he may have gotten a scholarship to one of the ACC schools. He was a true 7 footer, and one of the best shot blockers I've seen in A ball. Anyone remember his name and do they know how his collegiate career went?
  3. Congratulations to the LA Wildcats!

I am confused as to whether Livingston Academy is a private school or a public school. I've never heard of an "Overton County High School" so I need to know how many high schools are in the county and names. I always thought "York Institute" was a private school for years until recently.

  4. Homecoming Festivities can be a distraction if you don't stay focused on the game and your opponent.---rSquared

I've always wondered WHY they have football players escorting homecoming queen candidates during halftime. ;)

Back to the game, earier in the season I thought Greenback didn't have a chance against Coalfield--but things change. I still think Coalfield will win.

  5. Sometimes when I bring up this board, I'm automatically logged in as someone else from some other section of the state I have no idea who they are. For example, the other day I was "MunfordFan" or something similar. This has happened 5 or 6 times the last couple of years. I've also had my posts altered by someone else a couple of times. Anyone else had this problem? I'm not on a shared computer. :)

  6. Just think, if the boys from Campbell Co. ever decide to play with each other instead of going down to Anderson Co., The Cougars might eventually field a team that can win more than two or three games a year.  With out all those CC boys(usually the skill players) Anderson Co. would probably not have as good a record year in and year out. ;)  ;)  :P

Remember the year ACHS had to forfeit all those games over something similar to this? I lost all respect for Larry Kerr after that.

  7. Let Bear have them. I'll have more than enough. Matter of fact, I've gotten rid of two muscadine vines. Got tired of mowing around them. One time Marty J. came up with the idea to label his bottles of white muscadine wine with a Yellowjacket. He sketched the label, took it to a professional labelmaker, but they were going to charge a fortune. The wine has a yellow-bronzish color, and Yellowjacket would have been appropriate for a title.

  8. David C. Fritts had a brother named Russell who was a track star at UT and I don't understand why he didn't play high school football. I still see David here and there, he lived over the hill from me growing up. We rode the bus to school together.......I never met Scotty, but attended H.S. with his mother Delores. His hands were so big, he could carrry the football like a loaf of bread and never fumble. Every Whitt I remember was a good athlete.

  9. I am still mad abotu the game 2 years ago when Clitnon was at the 1 with about 5 sec. left and if they scored they win but CATLETT chose to pass the ball and it ended up getting intercepted.

I was watching an O.S. game listening to OR/Clinton game on the radio and remember than one well. We don't have to worry about CATlett anymore, at least. :P

  10. Scotty Whitt also had that natural spin move you don't see that often. Size to boot. He could have played WR, linebacker, or DB in college, but no university would touch him with a ten foot pole. Coach Jim Gaylor once was asked how fast was Whitt, and he replied that it was according to who was chasing him. Jermaine Shepherd played for Clinton a few years later, and Ohio State wanted him, but he just didn't have the grades. He was more of a receiver, but was an excellent running back.

Going back 30 some odd years ago, no one has mentioned David C. Fritts from Clinton. He's probably the best running back I've seen in high school. UT and several other colleges wanted him, but his knees had been shot since Little League. He did have a successful career at MTSU, and I see his name in the newspapers quite a bit lately. ;) Fritts' teammate, Terry Moore, did get a scholarship to UT and started at fullback. What a 1-2 punch back in those days. Terry's dad, Allen, was a standout at Coalfield High School in the late 1940's. Dang, are we allowed to mention these ancient people? :P

  11. Problem is it still matters to those 10 guys who made up that team that are still alive. Bet I can name three or four still alive. And before some smart a comes on here and says it: no I did not see them play.

CYJacket, you know me. I used to see you at the quarterback's house who played on that six man team. thumb

  12. Obviously, none of you really understand bad blood. Spend some time in Smith County the week leading up the Smith Co. Owls v. the Gordansville Tiger game. There are many people in that county that don't cross the river unless they are going to that game.

Beethoven, I lived in Carthage for about a year during the construction of the defunct Hartsville Nuclear Plant. You're exactly right. PLUS, another HUGE rivalry is the Smith Co/Trousdale game.

  13. Coalfield is approx. 10 miles west of Oak Ridge, located in Morgan County, a single A school. Wartburg (AA)is approx. 12 miles or so west of Coalfield, the county seat of Morgan County. Oliver Springs is approx. 5 miles from Coalfield, very close to Oak Ridge.

  14. Oak Ridge and Clinton used to be one of the biggest rivalries, but it's been lopsided in O.R.'s favor. Those two schools really hate each other, to the point of vandalism, fights, etc. Now most of Clinton's good ballplayers attend either A.C.H.S. or Oliver Springs. Clinton could compete in single A now, maybe??
