  1. My cousin from McCreary Co. emailed me this schedule: McCreary plays Jellico at 4:30 Garrard plays Pineville at 6:00, Green Co. plays Whitley Co. at 7:30 Scott and Oneida for the battle for Scott Co. at 9:00.
  2. Did anyone find out for sure if Oneida is playing Scott at the McCreary tournament? My 1st cousin is the BB coach at McCreary. I emailed him about the game, but haven't heard back from him yet.
  3. I can't remember his dad, but his grandpa was probably the best shooter at UT I can remember.
  4. Ah yes, now I remember he had one of those double southern names, Rodney Dale. Like Billy Joe Tombob, Billy Bob, etc.....He must have blocked a dozen shots when he came to Coalfield his sr. year. I think he was 7'1" or 7'2" but he probably didn't weigh 180 lbs.
  5. Is Dan Schultz any relation to the Danny Schultz who was an All-American for the University of TN under coach Ray Mears?
  6. I remember several years ago Oneida had a big fellow at least 7' tall. I think he may have gotten a scholarship to one of the ACC schools. He was a true 7 footer, and one of the best shot blockers I've seen in A ball. Anyone remember his name and do they know how his collegiate career went?
  7. Well, it sounds like a private school because of the "Academy" suffix, but I'd always wondered because I'd never heard of any more schools in the county. York "Institute" also sounds like a private, but we know they're not. And yes Festus, I'm pretty sure Taft is a state "institution."
  8. Congratulations to the LA Wildcats! I am confused as to whether Livingston Academy is a private school or a public school. I've never heard of an "Overton County High School" so I need to know how many high schools are in the county and names. I always thought "York Institute" was a private school for years until recently.
  9. I've always wondered WHY they have football players escorting homecoming queen candidates during halftime. Back to the game, earier in the season I thought Greenback didn't have a chance against Coalfield--but things change. I still think Coalfield will win.
  10. I noticed the Coalfield fans had been quiet on here for a few days; give us some thoughts.
  11. A-Coalfield or Oneida AA-Oliver Springs or Rockwood AAA-Smith County or Kingston AAAA-Clinton(what a pipe dream) AAAAA-Oak Ridge Remember, these are teams I'd like to see in the Clinic Bowl, but it's unlikely most of them will make it.
  12. Remember the year ACHS had to forfeit all those games over something similar to this? I lost all respect for Larry Kerr after that.
  13. Let Bear have them. I'll have more than enough. Matter of fact, I've gotten rid of two muscadine vines. Got tired of mowing around them. One time Marty J. came up with the idea to label his bottles of white muscadine wine with a Yellowjacket. He sketched the label, took it to a professional labelmaker, but they were going to charge a fortune. The wine has a yellow-bronzish color, and Yellowjacket would have been appropriate for a title.
  14. You know me well enough, Jacket, to know I self medicate.
  15. David C. Fritts had a brother named Russell who was a track star at UT and I don't understand why he didn't play high school football. I still see David here and there, he lived over the hill from me growing up. We rode the bus to school together.......I never met Scotty, but attended H.S. with his mother Delores. His hands were so big, he could carrry the football like a loaf of bread and never fumble. Every Whitt I remember was a good athlete.
  16. I was watching an O.S. game listening to OR/Clinton game on the radio and remember than one well. We don't have to worry about CATlett anymore, at least.
  17. Scotty Whitt also had that natural spin move you don't see that often. Size to boot. He could have played WR, linebacker, or DB in college, but no university would touch him with a ten foot pole. Coach Jim Gaylor once was asked how fast was Whitt, and he replied that it was according to who was chasing him. Jermaine Shepherd played for Clinton a few years later, and Ohio State wanted him, but he just didn't have the grades. He was more of a receiver, but was an excellent running back. Going back 30 some odd years ago, no one has mentioned David C. Fritts from Clinton. He's probably the best running back I've seen in high school. UT and several other colleges wanted him, but his knees had been shot since Little League. He did have a successful career at MTSU, and I see his name in the newspapers quite a bit lately. Fritts' teammate, Terry Moore, did get a scholarship to UT and started at fullback. What a 1-2 punch back in those days. Terry's dad, Allen, was a standout at Coalfield High School in the late 1940's. Dang, are we allowed to mention these ancient people?
  18. Almost. I'm Festus when I forget to take my Thorazine.
  19. CYJacket, you know me. I used to see you at the quarterback's house who played on that six man team. thumb
  20. Beethoven, I lived in Carthage for about a year during the construction of the defunct Hartsville Nuclear Plant. You're exactly right. PLUS, another HUGE rivalry is the Smith Co/Trousdale game.
  21. CYJacket, you forgot Coalfield's 1941 football state championship in 6 man football. Or does it count?
  22. Coalfield is approx. 10 miles west of Oak Ridge, located in Morgan County, a single A school. Wartburg (AA)is approx. 12 miles or so west of Coalfield, the county seat of Morgan County. Oliver Springs is approx. 5 miles from Coalfield, very close to Oak Ridge.
  23. Oak Ridge and Clinton used to be one of the biggest rivalries, but it's been lopsided in O.R.'s favor. Those two schools really hate each other, to the point of vandalism, fights, etc. Now most of Clinton's good ballplayers attend either A.C.H.S. or Oliver Springs. Clinton could compete in single A now, maybe??
  24. RebelRon, did you ever see Danny Spradlin play for the Rebs? He's distantly related to me. I suggest you take CYJacket's advice and come see a Coalfield/Wartburg game. It's by far the biggest event in Morgan County. Well, maybe thumb the Deer Lodge 4th of July Parade ranks a close second.
