  1. Good question Star, particularly when several public schools----Overton, Ravenwood, Independence and Franklin----were wrestling the Region 6 duals just a few miles down Franklin Road from Father Ryan. They all made it there. I traveled Woodmont Boulevard yesterday, the main road that connects from Harding Road, just about a mile south of the MBA campus, to Franklin Road and it had been plowed, salted and was clear to drive. So I don't see why driving conditions to Father Ryan would have been an issue. Seems strange that such a big rivalry match was just canceled and not rescheduled. But it ain't our call.
  2. Yeah, you are right Silver. I was only counting the actual pins recorded and not Duncan's hypothetical pin. That would have given them both five six pointers. Each had a TF and a pin by Duncan would have wiped out the only major decision, the next two criteria, so as you said the match would have gone to the next criteria, most first match points. You are a wise old man. Only the bookkeepers know the results of that criteria so I guess we will never be sure what would have happened if Baylor's Craig had not been able to keep from getting pinned by Duncan. Links to this morning's newspaper articles on the match: Ward Gossett: http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2010 ... 36/?sports BB Branton: http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_168054.asp
  3. No, that would have been McCallie's 4th pin. Both teams would have had five sixes, a five, and a three, so you'd be in the deep end of the tiebreakers. Silver, not sure I follow you. Criteria (e) says: "The team having accumulated the greater total number of falls, defaults, forfeits and disqualifications shall be declared the winner. Each team accumulated three three pins. Each team accumulated one default. Baylor accumulated one (and the only) forfeit. Baylor would have had 5 sixes and McCallie only 4,wouldn't they? We are discussing a hypothetical that did not happen, but I amj ust curious of how to read that criteria. Thanks.
  4. Decoy: Ynotme The Renegade's prediction was that Clements vs Cate would be the best match. I recognized him for that earlier. He called that one right. Ynotme is a contender not a pretender. The "Baylor's new stud" ( a/k/a Sidd Finch) prediction was from tnlonghorn but he has yet to come forward and claim that Deckelman is who he was talking about. That may be because he described someone who as of Friday still had some eligibility issues that had to be resolved while Deckelman wrestled on Thursday as part of a Baylor JV squad that won 13 out of 20 matches with McCallie. However, Deckleman did look pretty studly in getting a 20-3 tech fall for Baylor in his match.
  5. Chatt: The two McCallie announcers on the webcast said that it was Ward who did not make weight for McCallie at 112-------that he was .2 over. Was it Ward or Elsea?
  6. Then under Silverpie's "all six-pointers are equal" criteria, it looks like Baylor would still have won had Duncan been able to get the extra two team points awarded for a pin at 152 and the score ended at 38-38. There were no a., b. or c. For d., matches were even at 7-7. Move to e. and each had 3 falls, each had one injury default, but Baylor had the only forfeit. So, in the event the match had been tied at the end, it looks like the forfeit at 112 would have decided the match for Baylor. Thankfully, due to the the Baylor 152 avoiding getting pinned by Duncan, it did not have come to that.
  7. Final results: 189--Ferguson ( pin 6-0 215--Satterfield ( M) pin 6-6 285--Mackie ( inj. def. 12-6 103--Standefer ( dec. 15-6 112--Eady ( forfeit 21-6 119--Westbrooks (M) TF 21-11 125--Deckelman ( TF 26-11 130--Manley ( pin 32-11 135--Hooker (M) pin 32-17 140--Doster ( pin 38-17 145--Clements (M) dec. 38-20 152--Duncan (M) maj.dec. 38-24 160--Martino (M) pin 38-30 171--Condrey (M) inj. def. 38-36 Baylor In the speculation department: Good job by Baylor's 152 to keep from getting pinned by Duncan like I think everyone expected and only getting majored. If Duncan gets the pin, then the score would have been tied at 38-38 and we go to criteria. No unsportsmanlike penalties. 7-7 in matches. What's next, pins? 3-3 . Doesn't the forfeit factor in here somewhere? Would that .2 pounds that Watson was overweight have been the factor in criteria giving Baylor a win? Also: What would have happened if Ward had made weight at 112 and got a win there? Even if just a decision, that would probably would have required Baylor to consider wrestling Watson at 119. Apparently he injured his ankle in warmups and according to the announcers was limping after the match so he might have still beat Westbrooks, but maybe no pin. But would Baylor have risked it? Ynotme----good call on the Cate-Clement match. It turned out to be the closest and probably best match as you predicted. Terrible news about Cole Hayes if he is indeed out for the rest of the year after having gone through this last season as well. Hope Watson's injury is just one of those where they did not want to risk anything for state and he will be fine.
  8. Correct. Watson did not wrestle. Announcers have said he is there, in uniform, but did not wrestle. At start of match announcers said that Hayes had an injured ankle and they described him as being out for the rest of the year. Talked about how Hayes this was the second year in a row that Hayes had suffered a mishap at the end of the season ( last year it was mono) that caused him to miss the state tournament. Not sure how they know for sure he is out for the season but that is what they said. Deckleman, who wrestled in the JV match against McCallie earlier in the week, looked impressive at 125 winning by TF. Clements won a close decision over Cate.
  9. Ferguson won by pin at 189. Then a stunner. Helton was leading Satterfield by a good margin in second period, was working a cradle for the pin, lost his lock, Satterfield reversed and subsequently pinned Helton (after about a minute ). I don't think anyone expected that----predictors had been giving Baylor a pin here. Might make final match outcome interesting.
  10. http://www.sportsnation360.com/schools/webcast/McCallie Match is on. Pretty good picture. Big news according to announcers ( BB Branton ) is that Cole Hayes has an injured ankle and is out for the remainder of the season. Ankle is in a boot. Also, Alex Ward of McCallie ( 112) did not make weight by .2 lb. Announcers estimate crowd at 2,000. Match starting at 189.
  11. No, can't get away that early today. Looks like it might be me and the computer screen watching Baylor and McCallie. Just can't believe the Mackerel Snappers and The Gentlemen, Scholars and Athletes will not settle things on the mat this year. Maybe they will be in the same side of the brackets at state duals----though it will not be the same as being in their own gyms.
  12. Any chance it might get rescheduled for next week while the D-I schools are having their region qualifiers for the individual state tournament? Hard top fathom that these two schools would let a season go by without having wrestled their traditional match. Of course, it was hard for me to imagine that Notre Dame would not come up and wrestle at Ryan this year too-----------maybe MBA and Ryan can hook-up in Alabama instead ( sorry, Bear Cat, but I had to take that low and unnecessary shot........... you have been to quiet lately).
  13. Yes. According to the McCallie School athletic website, the match will be broadcast live starting at 6:00 p.m. EST with McCallie alums BB Branton '69 and Jason Finnell '00 calling the match. When I hit " Click Here For The Broadcast", this is the link I got: http://www.sportsnation360.com/schools/webcast/McCallie
  14. wow! I must be out of the loop. 103- is Connel wrestling in place of Elsea? Is Hayes out for sure? Is Hooker dropping? What about the mysterious LA stud, Sidd Finch? Will we see him tonight?
  15. Just got a text here in Kentucky that said the match has been canceled. That is sad for both teams. Rassinlite, has this match been officially canceled? I did not see anything on the school website early this morning.
  16. Ynotme: No Hayes in the line-up for Baylor? Does that confirm the "rumor about Hayes" that was mentioned several times in earlier posts but never divulged or confirmed? What is that rumor? 51-24 without Hayes? That is what I would call a runaway. But if all those pins are just decisions, things could be interesting. Particularly if the match were to start around 145-152 and Duncan and Martino get their pins, but the Baylor big Boys do not so that Mccallie is still in it with those matches out of the way. Maybe there will be some of that "stuffing the ballot box" when it comes to the starting weight class that was alluded to in earlier posts.
  17. "Mr". Branton: Fantastic job as always. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. No one else would have taken the time to do this. And no one else has the knowledge of Tennessee high school wrestling that you do. Where do you get this stuff? For these efforts, you deserve to be given the most coveted title awarded on this board by President Bear Cat Brown. Bear Kitty: Don't you agree? For his body of work and his love of wrestling, shouldn't BB be awarded the title of "Mr", your highest award?
  18. Bayou Bear: Is this an indication that it will again be a waste of time for BCB to post the the annual "When will we get to see Baylor and Bradley wrestle?" topic on this board when wrestling starts up again next season? Strongbad: In keeping with the theme of wrestling on dirt in a agricultural center, for this inaugural year only, all wrestlers who successfully execute the cow catcher for a takedown will receive three points instead of two. For all you folks who feel inconvenienced, cheated, robbed, unsatisfied or baited-and switched for having to watch a few high schools teams wrestle that did not meet the rigorous qualifying process that only D-I AAA schools go through to get here, the TSSAA has just announced that as a lead-in to the D1-AAA finals match, TNA has been invited to hold its All-Comers, No Qualification Necessary, No Time Limit, No Holds Barred Last Man Standing Championship. Word has it that the WWE will be filing for an injunction tomorrow morning against this match on the grounds if TNA gets invited so should the WWE and every other professional wrestling organization and the wrestling public will be irrreparably harmed by having to watch a wrestling match for which there was no qualification or bidding process. Rumor has it that after looking at the complaint, the trial judge was heard singing : " Pants on the ground, pants on the ground, you look like a fool with your pants on the ground.
  19. Huh? Where did you get this from nooga? I sure hope it is false and just some chum you have thrown out on the water to get the blue sharks all in a feeding frenzy over the weekend? If so, you are a sick man. tnlonghorn-------if this is true, then you better get Sidd Finch eligible and ready to go by Monday because the tribe will have major need of his services. That is a lock solid red tribe win that might get moved over to the blue side of the ledger.
  20. Certainly could be. I'm surprised that there is another on this wrestling board who knows who Sidd Finch is. He was a great pitcher; I'm sorry his march to the major leagues neve materialied Nice catch, Chattcity. If tnlonghorn has his way, maybe he will turn out to be a great wrestler instead.
  21. Whorn----just messing with you. No ill will intended. I have some OU buddies who absolutely hate Texas. They refer to them as the " Whorns" ( don't say the "n" and you will get their meaning). I appreciate your bringing Sidd Finch into this topic. It had gotten into the "personal attacks" ditch and you pulled it out. Now I am really getting suspicious. Your quote sounds like something Bear Cat Brown would say. Are you sure that stud is not really a washed up 50 year old former EFT wrestler who has come back to try to do something that he always wanted to do-----put on those red leggings and wrestle for the red tribe?
  22. Baylor is dismissing classes at noon today Just got an email stating that the Mccallie Activities Director is canceling the match - nothing official yet - this is purportedly from an EBE parent BB Branton just posted that the match has been canceled for tonight and will be reset for either Saturday or Monday. tnlongwhorn-----if it goes to Monday, that would give the red tribe some extra time to get the eligibility issues with Sidd Finch worked out so that maybe he could make an appearance in the match. What are your sources saying? Does anybody think this delay will help/hurt either team? If it goes into next week, you might have weight issues, potential flu or other bugs to strike, or injuries-----though I am guessing that all wrestlers will under strict orders to stay inside and not go out in the snow and ice where they might fall on slippery roads or steps---------that could effect one team's lineup. Alternatively, if there are any wrestlers who were going to be wrestling injured or are recovering from injuries----Watson and, if BCB is to be believed, Shuford come to mind-----a postponement until might help..................gives them a few more days to get better.
  23. Nooley's does not serve BBQ. it serves Cajun food. If you are looking for BBQ, this is not your place. But if you want some really good Cajun/Louisiana style food, then Nooley's is your place. The owners of Nooley's are from Louisiana, so they know what they're doing............... gumbo, jambalaya, muffuletta sandwiches. Its located on Royal Oaks Blvd, just off I-65 so its easy to get to. Not named on the BBQ list so far is a Corky's----the BBQ chain out of Memphis---serving Memphis style BBQ right off I-65 in Brentwood.
  24. Purple Fans: Your school is closed today. So if there is any postponement of this match due to the dire weather reports for a lot of snow through Saturday please let us know. There are some of us who are interested in seeing this match just because it is The Big Red vs. The Purple Fish Eaters ( I'm Catholic,so don't go PC on me), even if predictions seem to be worse for MBA than for Custer at Little Big Horn and a muzzle was put on the student's cheers from both sides last year.
  25. L.A., Pa. or Iow-a. Until we get a name and weight class on this guy, he's Sidd Finch to your George Plimpton, longwhorn ( my Oklahoma buddies tell me that when referring to Texas athletic teams the proper spelling is "Whorns", not " Horns").
