  1. walkenvol is correct. The push occurred from the optional start position. That coupled with Lomas' start led to his "exit" from the "ring." Actually, the ref made a bad call. It was no where near unsportsmanship, looked bad but there was not an intent to harm Lomas. If you've been a wrestler, this is a non-issue.
  2. Hamilton County School Board policy, if schools are closed due to weather, NO PRACTICE, GAMES, AND NO TRAVEL INVOLVING STUDENTS! Don't bet on it. I'd be amazed if schools were ordered to stay home.
  3. At first look, I think it'd be a wonderful competition; however, these young boys have a lot going on academically and socially. To create regionals and run a state competition is too much, in my opinion, for us to ask of them. Besides, they'll get hold of one another sooner or later. In freestyle, when their personal loads lighten up or in high school, when they're ready to shoulder this heavy extracurricular activity.

    Question

As long as you weren't 19 by a certain date (?), then I suppose you would be eligible.
  5. Hmm,...overall? Perhaps, Baylor (I believe they once won six years straight, Red Bank, McCallie (Once won 4 years straight), Notre Dame, maybe some others. Bradley is a fine program.
  6. Someone from out of state; finals of the Mater Dei (Indiana) tournament I think.
  7. I bet people would pay $10 a piece to see this match-up. "If" 3,000 people were in "paid" attendance, 33% would be nice, wouldn't ya say.
  8. Well, the only male sport at UTC deserving of being dropped is football. Please put it out of "our" misery.
  9. Bradley v. McCallie! Here is a neat idea I heard about. What do you guys think? The plan would be to hold it in the same gym as the state, sponsored by TSSAA (not approved yet) and the Chattanooga Takedown Club with all proceeds going to TSSAA (a cut determined by Ronnie) and the rest to Mocs wrestling.˜˜The refs would be free and the support would be provided by the Takedown Club. The match would be advertised as a Dual wrestled straight up (DI vs DII Champion Challenge), no weigh-ins, the wrestlers enter as they did in the State. The idea, I believe, was proposed by the Chattanooga Takedown Club for a fund raiser for TSSAA and Mocs Wrestling, and, I believe, McCallie's coaches have already agreed to wrestle (Bill Cherry's approval??-not sure) if Ronnie Carter gives the approval to extend the season and not penalize the underclassmen for next season.˜˜Mr. Carter's approval also should cover the issue of insurance and use of the gym on Sunday. Also, who do you folks think would win.˜˜Match-ups below, with state rankings: 103 - White #3 vs. Tinsley #2 112 - Roberts #4 vs. Morris NR 119 - Cleveland #2 vs. Cordell #1 125 - Silberman #1 vs. Fuller NR 130 - Smith #2 vs. West #2 135 - Manley #1 vs. Baker #2 140 - Blair #1 vs. Creagan #1 145 - Scott #1 vs. Spain NR 152 - Connell #2 vs. Catlett #1 160 - Levitt #4 vs. Gibson #1 171 - Hobbs NR vs. Blackmon #5 189 - Rudolph #3 vs. Cooper #1 215 - Martin NR vs. Bailey NR 275 - Green NR vs. Grady NR
  10. Not sure, but I'd guess the intensity had to do w/ whoever lost the dual was going home.
  11. There is little equality within private schools, as there is little equality within public schools. There is so much that goes into a successful program, beyond coaching, to consider. One of which, is population density. The availability of talent, and access to talent, dictates who will enjoy success most often. Also, you need to consider what communities are willing to place an importance on youth teams = development programs. The vast majority, all but 2 or 3, of McCallie's 40+ wrestlers came up through the system, meaning they entered school at McCallie in the sixth grade (or seventh grade before a sixth grade was started). And, a majority of them were wrestling for a youth club. Now, using the above mentioned, do your own comparison of all the private & public schools and you'll find it to be a decisive factor. I believe its a sound position, one came to by a public high school graduate. Hence, the signature at the bottom. [Edited by pantheon on 1-30-03 11:37A]
  12. You are way off target w/ this one, buddy. It amazes me how people can rant about something they have no knowledge of. Its this type of inane jargon that perpetuates conflict between the private and public schools.
  13. Well, Silverbullet, now that our season is complete, I'll pass on a few names: Zach Goss (113 lb.) - He lost two "regular" decisions to Creagan (Ocoee) this season; knows a variety of techniques, needs regional & national competition. Will Young (119 lb.) - Undefeated season; extremely talented, needs to improve technique, needs regional & national competition. Joe Young (125 lb.) - One loss on season to Dan Waddell (Baylor), 12 - 4; extremely talented, needs to improve technique; we bumped him in the TVAC to 131 lb. division where he beat Mica Williams (Cleveland) 4 - 3 in a very close match, could've gone either way; needs regional & national competition. Brenton Austin (151 lb.) - One loss on season; does a few things very well, needs to work in additional styles; needs regional & national competition. Other contributors: Thomas Green, Evan Myers, Mike Olingy (lost 2 one pointers to Mica Williams - Cleveland), Anthony Conney, and Matthew Spitalny.
  14. Baylor reloads their lineup as well as Bradley - its going to be a close match.
  15. Man, sorry I missed it. Due to the weather, our middle school championship start-time was bumped back. Everyone associated w/ TVAC wrestling missed out. Go MOCS!
  16. Well, the McCallie 103 beat Coleman in overtime. I guess you've got to throw him into the mix.
  17. Seems to be a mentally tough kid. An analysis of his wrestling shows a kid who wrestles on his heels with outside elbow ties, offering very little lateral motion. He has good defense straight on (hips/legs away), but against a strong opponent who works angles and has a good duck-under, Matt could have some trouble. In-state, he may very well be the #1 ranked 125 lb'er.
  18. Robin Williams Tom Cruise Dennis Hastert [Edited by pantheon on 9-25-02 8:04A]
  19. I'm sure the Lane boy is eligible, because he's going from a DII school to a DI school.
  20. Well, since I've been surfing this forum I've not seen much on middle school programs, DI or DII. What's in the stables, fellas? Who to watch in the coming years?

    Walkenvol

Long time listener, first time caller. I've heard this man, Walkenvol, in the stands. He's as passionate as they come. As a person who loves the sport of wrestling, I say we need hundreds more like him. As a wrestling coach, I'd love to have him behind my bench. He just needs to change that username!
