  1. johnnyc, it would be too practical and make way too much sense to start emerson. he's too good for the job. they've gotta save him for when it really counts...what? they're 1-3?? well, then i don't know why he isn't starting. once again, probably some stubborn coaches' egos at stake. blackman's inconsistency is going to be the end of them. i don't know though. i've moved on to greener pastures. i miss friday night football!!
  2. one thing i will never understand as long as i live: blackman can give defending state champs a scare, but they can't play well against a team they have beat every year since they were an eligible team. their inconsistency is what kills them, and i must say, it kills their fans too. hey guys, go out there and show everyone what us fans know you have! smyrna, congratualtions, i'm sure you played your hearts out last night.
  3. what does it matter what the paper said about riverdale being a pushover? for the most part, they get pretty good press. living in murfreesboro 6 years, i always ientified riverdale as a "powerhouse," not pushover. perhaps they WERE talking about the marching band.
  4. wow. i'm speechless...congrats to the falcons. and to the blaze fans, what happened??!!!???!!
  5. OL, was that the hendersonville game you started in hargis' spot? i foget. =P

yeah for real OL. you should go. they have extended the deadline for the fall semester. [Edited by wildlymild on 4-10-03 8:42P]
  7. brandon, i commend you for your thought-provoking topic. it takes a lot to get on here and post something like this. (although i don't agree with you saying riverdale is just a local powerhouse.) there will always be controversy surrounding this topic, mainly because it brings up the difference between public schools and private schools. if you wanted to push some buttons, this is definitely a way to do it. i haven't read all the other posts, but has someone mentioned the fact that money could be a factor in traveling out of state? MBA, brentwood academy, etc., obviously, have more resources than any public schools around here, including riverdale. i'm sure i'm reiterating someone else's insight, so please forgive the late remark. 8. OL, obviosuly someone has difficulties with reading the posts.
  9. online, red bank were state champions in 2000. they beat riverdale. they are a really strong team. they're from the east, near chattanooga. [Edited by wildlymild on 4-8-03 6:08A]
  10. brandon, thank you for the complimenting our lovely school. i came from riverdale, and it was like entering a new world. however, blackman has its downs as well. for instance, although the campus is beautiful, we're never allowed out to enjoy it. i miss that about riverdale. as for the best boro team...we all know that the boro is now not only divided in 2, but not into fourths. whichever team you're for, murfreesboro is the best place for football in the state of TN! here's how i think it will stack up: 1.Oakland: the team with the best chance of winning it. because they didn't rely too heavily on seniors this past year, they are now returning a lot of key players. i think there will be a few surprises in the starting line-up. online and region4fan will have to help me out with this one though. 2. Blackman: always in the back of the boro's mind. blackman has been very unpredictable in the past 3 years. watching a blaze game is like watching a balancing act om a tight rope: at the drop of a dime, they could fall to the ground. i'm not trying to say this makes them a weak team, but it is something that needs to be improved upon. they need to overcome losing their OL and offensive coordinator, but i think that a lot of adjustments needed to be made. they will have to rely on defense to see them through some tough games. 3. Riverdale: now i know a lot of you guys are gonna give me h-e-double hockey sticks for this one, but i don't forsee them doing as much damage next year. riverdale always find some way to weather the cold, but i think this year will be different. no doubt about it, they have a strong program and the coaches are doing great things over there, but i'm questioning how it will all mesh. from what i've been hearing, the warriors are losing a lot of students because of rezoning...not sure how it will all pan out, but rhs will definitely have to work for the region title this year. 4. Siegel: this is a no-brainer. siegel is, obviously, a young team. this will be a year to build morale and a good (or bad) reputation. coach watson and his staff will have a lot to prove to the other boro teams. watson made it happen at riverdale and blackman, can he make siegel a powerhouse, too?
  11. sounds like a LOT of high schools guys, not just smyrna
  12. dog7272, didn't you say in an earlier post you're leaving smyrna? i'm just wondering. here's my predictions (including lebanon onlineathlete ): 1. Oakland (the crawford brothers plus a handful of riverdale players who were rezoned this year, also not losing as many seniors as the other boro teams) 2. Blackman (what can i say? i love my boys!they seem to endure no matter the circumstances, who knows...this may be THE year) 3. Riverdale (will still be in the game as long as they have thomas and mcdaniel running the offensive show) 4. Smyrna (will probably serve a few teams an "upset special") 6. Lavergne (great team but just has trouble making it all sing) 7. Lebanon (unpredictable on the field, but don't count them out, we all remember what happened to blackman on their senior night...) 8. Siegel (will be the youngest boro team, good coaches coming in, but they still need at least a year to learn where everyone fits) 9. Wilson Central (also will be building this year and probably isn't ready for 5A quite yet) hey OL [Edited by wildlymild on 3-31-03 4:23P]
  13. thanks for settin me straight online. johnnyc, are you saying we're only losing 1-5 total students or 1-5 football players?
  14. well, keep in mind that the region information doesn't include siegel on the site either, but we all know what region sigel will be in...just because tssaa hasn't updated their site doesn't mean it's not true. as of now, it's ALL specualtion. anyway, "that's my story and i'm stickin to it."
  15. FYI: lebanon is not in region 4 anymore shaggy.
  16. touchdown, with all due respect, HOW COULD RIVERDALE BE HURTING FOR A QB??? i'd hope dave thomas established himself as a key player considering he got a significant amount of play this past year, including in the state championship. dog7272, sounds like you've had a bad experience with blackman athletics, but that doesn't mean we should have lost to smyrna in a ball game. both teams knew what was riding on that win, and i'm sure both teams wanted it just as bad as the other, but to say that blackman shouldn't have won is nonsensical. you're right, smyrna could have won just as easily, but they didn't. it all amounts to luck of the draw sometimes. i hate that it happens that way, but it does. besides, next year it's all wide open. the lineups will be different, and the competition will be too. and who knows...smyrna might just beat one of the boro teams.
  17. OL, allegedly he got suspended for something, but i'm not sure what.
  18. kmw, if you read one of my posts, you would note that blackman has built its reputation on "hard work and great coaching..."
  19. did you play football for BHS?
  20. OL, don't be tellin people who i am or i'll have to beat you up. haha. as for who came from where and when and why, everyone has made valid points, but bottom line, we all come to the consensus that 4-5A is the best region in the state! it doesn't matter who dominated blackman's starting team; what matters is they were all talented players. news: i just recently had a conversation with one of riverdale's junior players. he told me that many of this year's starters are leaving for oakland and blackman (and other schools) since the rezoning lines were drawn. he was saying that the offense will have to rely heavily on dave thomas and spike mcdaniel. (derente frazier won't be playing.) the D won't hurt as much, but they'll really have to step up in order to do well this season. i asked him why everyone was leaving, and he said that the team is not going to be as strong as it has been in the past. everyone is leaving to play ball elsewhere. i find this hard to believe, as i'm sure many others do, because riverdale has always managed to have a strong team, depsite the circumstances. they have a repuatation for making "lemons into lemonade" so to speak. however, if this is true, this leads the way to a new regional champion in 4-5A. being biased, i'd love to see it go to blackman, but i really see oakland stepping it up this year. as of now, the title is up for grabs and may the hardest working, most dedicated team win!
  21. hey OL bigtommy, you sound resentful. i understand why, but you have to understand that any first year team is going to have at least some negative feedback. one year does not make a team's reputation. it was a shock to me coming from riverdale where every game was won. all of a sudden, the team was not consistent, but that's what made it so enjoyable. blackman built its reputation on hard work and great coaching, not the fact that a few kids came from riverdale or oakland. i don't like when people bring up the fact that many of the players came from other schools before they played at BHS; they didn't really have a choice in the matter. we've had a lot of talent that didn't come from the boro schools, so there really shouldn't be any controversy over who played where. blackman has truly come together as one team, not a "group of misfits" from other schools.
  22. the sign said "mr. missed everything" alluding to the article in the DNJ that week called "mr. everything" or something like that.
  23. riverdale, just to clear something up: our principal is the one who started the ruckus about "the letter". everyone was against it being sent from the start, and it has been the cause of a lot of animosity between RHS and BHS since then. as OL said, there were a few kids at RHS who weren't supposed to be there, but i'm sure that happens at almost every school. the whole inceident was unecessary and has ruined whatever friendly relationship we had with riverdale before it happened. i really wish that blackman and riverdale could play without all the hostility. hopefully in the future things will be different. until then, good luck to everyone this year. *p.s. as a member of the pep club, i found the sign about brian campbell tacky and unsportsmanlike. i was not at the meeting when the sign was made but i regret that ANYone at BHS would allow it to be hung on a fence for everyone to see.
