  1. how about d2? any predictions?
  2. I play on the mba team, and we definitely do not recruit. Of the 21 starters (Koban who went to USN, started both ways), 9 went to Ensworth (Morgan, Sloan, Haury, Jacques, Noel, Pilkerton, Crumbo, Edwards, and Gluck), and 5 went to Oak Hill (Fisher, Santi, Pettus, Games, and Barnes) for middle schools. Ensworth, Oak Hill, and USN are all local middle schools that traditionally send kids to MBA, both for athletics and for academics. Those are most of the key players on the team (the four captains all went to one of these three schools), and most of the others on the team went to area parochial schools that also often feed into MBA.
  3. The horn and tailgating may have been classless, but i think you may have missed the most classless act by the Trinity fans. During warmups, the MBA cheerleaders set up a sign on the fence behind the Trinity bench so that it was facing the MBA fans on the other side of the field. The cheerleaders had obviously spent a lot of time painting this sign, and the Trinity fans showed a total lack of respect to them. Some actually booed the cheerleaders as they put the sign up, and then they tore it down and threw it onto the track and the trinity section started cheering at this. I played in the game, and i think it is a shame that the Trinity fans acted with no sense of class, especialy since the Trinity players showed great sportsmanship and class. Congratulations to Brohm and the rest of the Rocks, you are a class act. I wish I could say the same for their fans.
  4. what do you think about lutrell vs. marable? will it be a good match?
  5. I am surprised at how few times Jeff Rutledge of MBA has been mentioned. In his first year of coaching high school football, he won the state championship. He installed a totally new offense that none of the players had run before, and after a 4-4 start, he led his team to win the rest of their games, finishing 9-4 with a gold trophy. To show the marks of a truly good coach, he learned from mistakes and beat 3 teams in the playoffs that he had lost to previously. A coach has to be good to be able to make his team believe they can win 4 games in a row in which they are the underdogs (In the last regular season game, MBA beat McCallie, who would have been seeded #1 in the D2-AAA playoffs if it weren't for this loss). Also, if you are looking for the best overall coaching staff in the state, I would say it is definitely at MBA.
  6. Benson Sloan of MBA is a new type of defensive back that you will start seeing a lot more of in upcoming years. He is slow, not fast, weak, not strong, short, not tall, no hands, but he has the "intangibles." He's already been contacted by schools like UConn and Central Connecticut.
