  1. I love my Cavs, but I am still not sure how good we are in comparison to other good teams in the state. We have only defeated 2 teams with winning records. Last year the Cavs defeated a 6th ranked Antioch team, a Coffee Cty team picked to win the region, a MacGavock team which had won 4 in a row, a Lebanon team which was 8th in the state. This year our region is as weak as I have seen it in many years. Plus we are playing a 1A school.

Keep working hard Cavs because playoff time will be a different story with probably no blow outs.

  2. The Cavs should win out, but they haven't proven yet they are better than last years team. Last years team was defeated by Lebanon in a nail biter and then blew Lebanon out in the tourney. Then their only other lost was to Riverdale in the quarterfinals-but so did everyone else loose to Riverdale last year as well. The Cavs did score on Rivredale which hadn't been scored on in 30 something quarters.

I like this year's Cavs but I think that lack a little meanness which was present on last years team. Somebody needs to step up and smack somebody in the mouth as Coach J often says.

I predict the Cavs by 14

  3. Oh well I predicted a 24 point margin but I missed it by 5 points.

Way to go Cavs- now get back to business of defeating region foes.

The Cas haven't done anything special yet, so don't get over confident. You lost to a good team and won against an inferior team. Just get back to work and defeat Lincoln Cty in a few weeks.

  4. Just a few hours until game time at Eddie Watson Stadium. The coming weather may dampen the crowd but not the intensity of the game or the fierceness of this rivarly. It is amazing that though Cookeville has spanked the White Cty boys every year for several years, the rivalry still is intense.

The fullback for Sparta is a man, but even a man cannot outlast 11 boys banging on him all night.

I predict the Cavs by 24, but I hope it's much closer. We need the rivarly to be reignited in a special way.

  5. 3 years ago White Cty scored on the opening kickoff and then got stomped and that was their year to defeat Cookeville.

2 years ago White Cty had a possible all state tailback and on the first play he was knocked out for the rest of the season as he tried to turn the corner and was blasted.

last year it was again another "this is the year for White Cty" and the Cavs handled them with no problem.

I hope this year is a little better because the hype with no results is getting old.

    Cavs by 21

  6. Cookeville should defeat the Warriors and if they don't it will be a long season. For the last 5 years White Cty was supposed to bring their best team ever to each game but it has yet to materilaize. The Cavs just have more weapons than the Warriors.

To say this Cav team is better than last years is a presumptous comment especially since they haven't won a game yet.

  7. The Owls will always receive the nod in pre-season. Just like in baseball this past year. The Owls were expected to defeat Cookeville handily in the first game of the season, yet the Cavs went home the winners.

I am not a Joslin fan, but he is a good game day coach and if he can get some players to step up, they should play their smash mouth football and defeat the Owls.

  8. Hopefully the Cavs will repeat and 3-5A champs again. They will be a very strong team to deal with again this year.

I agree with 4Walls- the Cavs should repeat. They return several players. If they can find a quarterback and linebackers they should be very competitive. Lincoln Cty will be in the mix as well. It's about time for those guys to reload and become the power they are use to being.

I believe Region 3 will come down to these two teams. Plus LC comes to Cookeville this year -it should be an exciting game.

  9. I have been watching these boards for 3 years now and Limbaugh is a class act who has never said anything which is exaggerated or unfactual. So if he says he was the worst he had ever seen, then chances are the home plate umpire is the worst umpire in the history of baseball, because Limbaugh is very modest in his praise and criticisim.

I was at the game and the home plate umpire was inconsistent all night long both ways. He had no strike zone, he didn't know where it was and after speaking to both catchers he admitted to them the same. It is sad that these young men and coaches work so hard for months and then have to play a game that is officiated by someone who is inadequate and definitly out of shape.

And everytime you speak any criticism at all about umpires they get on here with this stuff about if you could do better then try it. Some of us know we are not fast enough, quick enough or in good enough shape-and since father time passed us by we can also recognize others who shouldn't be on the field in a umpires uniform, but they still put on the uniform and take the money.

The ump had nothing to do with the outcome of the game but he sure did affect the integrity of the game.

  10. Tonight is a new night. Oakland will be ready for revenge. They will come to play and the Cavs will be tested as to their ability to maintain momentum.

It's always an adventure in Oakland. Wish I could be there but work demands will not allow me. I will look on Coach T for game scores later this evening.

Sorry to hear about the young man who messed up his ankle. Just a tough luck year for Oakland.

  11. The Cavs handled the Pats handily tonight 12-2 in 5 innings. They had 8 straight hits off McCleary and got 8 runs off him in the 2nd inning.

Tha Cavs had 16 hits in five innings.

Griggs got his first win of the season for the Cavs!

I guess Oakland won't sweep this series!!!!

    Go CAVS!!!!!!

  12. I just received the game stats-and though I wasn't there it seems the Cavs pounded Higdon. Every Cav got a hit, with Bush the big grand slam and Dyer two doubles.

I heard Griggs pitched well until he tired and Phipher step up in the bottom of the 8th and struck out 2 of the 3 outs.

How did Turner get a double play as catcher? According to the book the Owls had two on and no outs and Turner/the Cav catcher turned a double play-what happened?

Teams trying to throw heat against the Cavs are going to get smacked-those boys can hit the fast ball.

    Go CAVS!!!!!!

  13. The Cavaliers should compete-they have senior leadership and a stable of pitching.

The team seems to like one another and I hear they hang out together on and off the field.

They will be prepared for competition because Coach Chaffin loves to practice.

They will be strong on the right side of the infield and strong behind the plate.

The outfield will be strong, but their arm strength might be a weakness.

They will be hitters because of Coach Tubbs who is a former Cincinnatti Red.

It should be a competitive district race- but as always it comes down to pitching!!!!

I see it just like you. I hope the Cavs are in the running but from what I heard of this past weekend, they may not be as strong as hoped. Or hopefully they were just playing everyone and didn't put their best lineup on the field in any game.

The "boro" boys still must be unseated and until someone does they will always be the favorite!
