  1. It's a lot of fun actually having both of Humboldt's teams doing well this year. It's been a long time coming.I was a sopo when the girls won the '79 AA title & a senior when the boys lost the '81 state title game. This year is the best year HHS has had in basketball since then.
  2. I'd pick Westview for the regular season title.GC has a big advantage hosting the tournament so I think they'll win it.
  3. I admit Alcoa's offense is better than I gave them credit for. There are so many people who post on these message boards that exagerate their area teams so much that's it's hard to gauge teams from around the state. With all their underclassmen I don't see anybody in 2A giving them any trouble next year.Congrats Alcoa.
  4. I would've bet against that 28 yarder making it but he hit it. Alcoa 43-41 4:22 4th
  5. That sack came at a perfect time for Huntingdon.Alcoa better put it in the endzone based on their kicker's PAT efforts.
  6. The defenses showed up in the 4th quarter.I never would've thought both teams would go for it on 4th down & get stopped.
  7. Huntingdon has been forced to punt again.Alcoa has it on the 45 yard line.Fiegler has 287 yards passing.
  8. The radio broadcast has said the record for total offense is 601 yards.601 looks like it'll be the 3rd highest after this game. All that & a punt return for a TD too.
  9. On the other hand a punt return for a Alcoa touchdown keeps the showdown going.
  10. Huntingdon's offense was this explosive last year against David Lipscomb. The difference with this game is Alcoa matched them in the 1st half whereas Lipscomb was shut down.Huntingdon seems to have taken control & a score here might do it.
  11. This game may be an indicator of life in 2A for USJ over the next few years. There is only going to be one region in this part of West Tn & USJ will be part in with Huntingdon,Milan,Westview & Humboldt so I think they'll struggle some while making the adjustment.

My computer froze & I had to reboot.Humboldt held Milan & forced a punt.A low snap led to a 22 yard punt but Humboldt couldn't move the ball & were forced to punt.On the punt the snap went over the punter's head & Milan's Daylan Walker picked up the ball on the Humboldt 30 and took it in for the touchdown. The PAT put Milan up 21-20.That was followed by Humboldt getting big runs from Adrian Donald and Octavius Lawrence.A 52 yard pass from QB Jeremy Patterson to TE Will Parker Roe set up a Donald TD & Humboldt regained the lead at 26-21 with 6:30 left in the 4th. Humboldt 26 Milan 21 6:30 4TH

http://www.sports56whbq.com WHBQ AM 560 is a Memphis station that covers HS football.Tonight's game is Christian Brothers-M.U.S.
  22. Here in rural West TN we have our schools matched up with Memphis in almost all sports on the road to state tournaments.Exceptions are Class A basketball where this area has enough A schools to make up all of districts 13,14 & 15-A + part of 16.In AA & AAA there are more schools in Memphis/Shelby County than the rest of West TN.In boys basketball a rural team has to be very good in AA-AAA to advance to Murfreesboro because they have to face off with Memphis teams in Sub-State & usually lose those games. In girls basketball Memphis is weak & our local teams have good success making in to state.Unfortunately Middle & East TN have most of the better girls teams in the state. In football it tends to be pretty even between Memphis & the rest of West TN in the 3 smaller classifications in which both areas have many schools. Most of 4-A & all of 5-A resides in Memphis/Shelby.The largest school in our area is Jackson Central-Merry which dropped to 4-A in 2003.In other sports like baseball, golf, etc it's pretty balanced in A-AA while Memphis wins most of the AAA matchups.
