  1. Here are a couple: Humboldt High School District 14A
  2. District 14A is a good one, but if you're going to promote Union City and Lake County, then at least give a mention to Humboldt. They are out to a 6-0 start and will cause matchup problems going 6-5, 6-4, and 6-3 in the starting lineup.
  3. Union City is talented, but in agreeing with the last post, needs to look for respect on the floor first, then in the public/media's eyes. Also, why are you looking for comparison with Haywood and Bolivar (I don't include Liberty, who has yet to make it to a sub-state game, much less the state tournament)? Your district has a couple of possible snags as well: Lake County and Humboldt. Lake Co. was within a few points of Murfreesboro last year themselves (losing to eventual champ Middleton), while Humboldt went to the state in AA and return three players from that run, plus a 6-5 transfer. Good single A district - look closer to home for respect.
  4. A legitimate question that is raised, however, is did the private schools in Georgia and Illinois agree to the multiplier? In Tennessee, private schools had a choice whether to move into Division II without a multiplier or remain in Division I with public schools with the condition that they would have the multiplier effect enforced upon their enrollment. It may not have been a choice of the lesser of two evils in their eyes, but the choice was there nonetheless. They were not forced to be in a "multiplier" situation.
  5. Regardless of who they've played or will play, give the Bulldogs their due. On a personal note, I'd like to extend congratulations to Noah Lampkins - former Gleason and Lambuth player - on a job well done in three short years as head football coach.
  6. One spot remaining - 14 teams in with a four-game guarantee. Call Coach Scott today at 731-571-5672 or email at coachscott17@hotmail.com
  7. We still need two teams to finish the tournament. The following teams have committed to playing: Gibson Co., Peabody, Humboldt, Milan, Ripley, Liberty, TCA, Obion, Westview, Dyersburg, Clarksville Northwest, Perry Co., and McNairy Contact Coach Scott with the information in the first post to grab one of the final two spots in the tournament.
  8. The 2006 Easter Slam hosted by Peabody and Humboldt High Schools needs a few teams to complete the field. Guarantee of four games with the possibility of six. Great tournament the past two years. Call Humboldt's Greg Scott at 731-571-5672 or email at coachscott17@hotmail.com
  9. Congratulations to all players, especially Drew Hayes from class AA McKenzie for making the class A team. McKenzie, Humboldt, Union City, and Riverside (in West TN) don't move down until the 2006 baseball season.
  10. Coach Greer is an upstanding person and a fantastic basketball coach. I'm positive that he hated the way things went down and that he had to give the Riverside position back. No sour grapes from Parsons, guys. Good luck to both teams next year.
  11. Rumor has it that former West Carroll head coach Jon Stigall has accepted the position to replace Coach Jones at Cheatham County.
  12. Joe has followed fellow Humboldt alum Charles Dotson west to Texas, signing with Navarro Junior College. Charles had two great seasons as a starter there and has moved on to NCAA Division I Texas State. Good luck to both of these players.
  13. AA Champ will again come from West TN. Been that way since 2001 and don't see it changing. Covington, Ripley, Milan, Lexington, one of these will win it. If Lexington can get healthy, i see them making a run...If not, it will be the winner of Covington/Ripley...or Milan. Since 2001, District 11-AA has had a team either win state or be in the state finals 3 times. To go a step further, that region (6AA) has provided a team in the championship game every year since 2001. This is the last year for that region with realignment next season.
  14. No games today. Friday and Saturday's schedules remain as-is for now.
  15. Hard to do an all-tournament team when Huntingdon and Humboldt will have only played one game (and each lost) at that time. I'd like for those two teams' players to have a second shot at making it as well. Other than that, good job on getting games in.
  16. Probably so since I see that South Side is in the bracket with TCA and West Carroll - two single A schools. It has grown to be a big joke how they stack their pool with smaller schools, or at least those who are not as strong (Fayette-Ware was in there last year). That's why the tournament has gone from an easy 16 teams to begging 14.

  21. A brief post from someone who doesn't much: I won't be so petty as some of the Humboldt faithful at the Murphy Center Wednesday to point out why the Vikings lost. It had been 20 years since a hoops team from HHS had been to the state tournament, so why not enjoy the ride this year. Great season gentlemen, especially seniors Joe, Tony, and Josh. A special congratulations to Coach Boykin, who has coached Junior High and High School basketball in Humboldt for almost thirty years and just coached in his first state tournament - no one deserves it more for a lifetime given to Humboldt youth. Look behind with pride and ahead with anticipation Humboldt fans. Hopefully, the best is yet to come.
