  1. Actually only 3 years. You can put the DII dominance to rest, you lost in 88.
  2. Convenient, because 22 years ago you got whipped by a DII school.
  3. Pepvol - there's a difference - most DII fans will go and post on DI threads that involve the teams that they play - in this case, in the past 10 years the Blount county schools have played 298 games. 2 games involved DII schools...2005 and 2006 Alcoa vs. McCallie...that was five and six years ago. I think you see where I'm going here, but if not I'll spell it out for you...Alcoa and Maryville have a great tradition and have had lots of success AND are both great teams, but the point is we probably care as much about Alcoa and Maryville as we do Dobyns Bennett, South Pittsburg, Knox Catholic, Greeneville, CAK, Milan, or Trousdale Co. Here's why - we don't play any of those schools and those schools don't play anyone of national significance so there's not reason for us to care about what they do. Most of the DII fans care about Tennessee High School football - we like to see our teams do well against other teams from other states - I think all of us were pulling for Gallatin two weeks ago - when teams do well against teams from other states it makes football in our state look good. So when we don't play Maryville or Alcoa and Maryville or Alcoa don't really play anyone of national significance or from other states REGULARLY (I know Alcoa has played a few teams from other states a few times) it doesn't really mean much to us. We welcome you to comment on any of the games, offer insight on teams from your area that you play that we play, but, PLEASE, take the Alcoa and Maryville love fest/DII bashing back to the 3A and 6A boards - where it belongs (or even to the Public/Private board). We've already been through this charade multiple times.
  4. BC - why are you posting on the DII boards?
  5. You tell me, you're the expert/guru.
  6. 1. DII schools have to play the other "girlies" because they're league games, just like your 3A games. 2. 2-0 against McCallie and 1-1 against BA (in 41 years) is hardly "21 years of DII dominance". 3. The phone numbers are listed above - you came here to this board to laud Alcoa greatness and insult DII teams, not vice versa - if you want it so bad, push your administrators to make it happen.
  7. You want respect...beat (or even schedule) one of those teams, otherwise crawl back to your puny 3A league. Go tell Rankin to call...TODAY...and see what his "excuse" is.
  8. BA - 615-373-0611 MBA - 615-298-5514 MUS - 901-260-1300 Ensworth - 615-301-5400 Tell you're coach to call those four numbers to fill your 4 open dates - tell him not to inquire about job openings this time, hope to see you on the schedule next year.
  9. Amazing. Is there video of this anywhere online? Haven't found one anywhere yet, still looking. It legitimately should make ESPN it was that amazing.
  10. CBHS beats McCallie on an UNBELIEVABLE 70 footer at the buzzer that hit the top edge of the back board, shot 25 feet straight up in the air then dropped down straight through the hoop - most unbelievable shot I've ever seen in basketball. Congrats CBHS, should be a great match-up with MBA in the finals tomorrow.
  11. Thanks RT - btw following the ENS/MBA game online - looks like a great game - your Big Red needs to start hitting some FT's Some other basketball players just from BA since DII started: Billy Kottas - Samford (football) Brian Wright - David Lipscomb Joshua Bone - SIU/UT Barry Turner - Nebraska (football - about to be drafted) King Dunlap - Auburn (football - plays for the Philadelphia Eagles) Darren Mustin - UT (football) Jacob Stallings - UNC (baseball) John Garrett - WKU (football) Would love to hear other schools' players.
  12. Yeah....Ellliot Williams (Duke-Memphis) and Leslie McDonald (UNC) - looks like Coach K/Pastner and Roy Williams had a problem finding those 2....not to mention Laurence Bowers (Missouri) Congrats. you named 3 in the last 20 years. You can name at least 5 THIS YEAR from public schools. And the three you mentioned were helped by AAU. Not playing against a bunch of 6'1 kids every game in private school league. Ensworth wouldnt win District 7AAA, much less play for a AAA state championship. And AAU doesn't help Division 1/public school athletes? DII started in 1998 here is just the list of the Mr. Basketball winners and where they went to college (or pro in some cases) - granted Division I has close to 400 member schools across the state (Division II about 25), so Division I should have more college players, more schools = more players (simple math): 1998 & 1999 - Will Howard Downs - Belmont 2000 & 2001 - David Harrison (McDonald's All-American) - Colorado - Indiana Pacers (1st round draft pick) 2002 - Billy May - not sure where he ended up (could use some help on that one- think he won Mr. Football that year too) 2003 - Marc Gasol - played in Europe, now the starting center for the Memphis Grizzlies 2004-2006 - Brandan Wright - UNC (don't need to list his accomplishments - lottery pick now plays for the Golden State Warriors) 2007 - Brandon Brown - David Lipscomb 2008 - Elliot Williams - Duke/Memphis Leslie McDonald (also won in 2009) - UNC (McDonald's All American) 2009 - Bobby Parks - (class of 2011) Those are just the Mr. basketball winners - there is a long list of others that can be mentioned - to insinuate that Division II basketball is weak or not near the level of Division I is ludicrous - they both have their fair share of good teams, let's leave it at that.
  13. Guess that's why he finished second in the Middle/East All region voting with 60 points (Price from McCallie finished first with 66 points - received player of the year honors) - the next closest guy to Price and Garlington was McDermott from Ensworth with 45 points. So you're right, he's average at best. I seriously doubt Weldon made this thread.
  14. Any word on Mobley? Saw him get carried off in the second half. Great kid and great player, hate to see him miss any time (especially on the hardwood).
  15. While Orleans is a fabulous talent, he's not on Bama's radar (as a tailback - maybe somewhere else, a la Chris Jordan).
  16. BGA has 19 Juniors and Seniors on the football team vs. 42 at BA. That is a significant disparity in numbers in the upper classes. BGA's freshman and sophomore numbers are more in line with BA's so this won't be an issue in two years. BGA has two freshmen starters and seven sophomores. How many freshmen and sophomores start at BA? Numbers aside, BGA will show up and compete. Numbers on the football team is not the issue - number of boys in the school is - I would bet the number of boys in the junior and senior class are roughly the same or somewhat close - getting more boys to come out for the team is where these "depth" issues seem to come into play. BA plays 6 sophomores and a handful of others see some spot duty, the youth is a non issue (most of the "playing" team is juniors) - no freshmen play because they aren't needed, they have their own team (again most of the team is sophomores and juniors). I never questioned BGA showing up to play, I know they will, they always do. I always cringe a little bit when someone mentions "youth" or "inexperience" to justify their shortcomings. Both teams have played a number of games and scrimmages (along with 2 months of practice and a long summer and spring of strength and conditioning). Should be a great game.
  17. I mean, yes, depth will always be an issue for BGA simply from an enrollment standpoint. But the same can be said for EHS as well. Only a select few (BA, MUS, MBA usually) have the benefit of platooning the players. After a point, it can't be used as a crutch anymore. According to the TSSAA, BA will carry a slim enrollment advantage into this game - for what that is worth. Also, BA will two platoon a lot - especially on the line. Division 2-AA Battle Ground Academy, 392 Ensworth High School, 427 Brentwood Academy, 463 Hutchison School, 466 Briarcrest Christian School, 567 St. Agnes Academy, 608 Pope John Paul II High School, 635 Baylor School, 712 Harpeth Hall High School, 736 Girls Preparatory School, 784 Memphis University School, 828 Father Ryan High School, 870 St. Benedict at Auburndale, 983 Montgomery Bell Academy, 1140 McCallie School, 1304 Christian Brothers High School, 1778 FYI BA's male breakdown: Senior class - 47 boys in the class, of which 16 play football Junior class - 58 boys in the class, of which 26 play football Sophomore class - 59 boys in the class, of which 23 play football Freshman class - 66 boys in the class, of which 34 play football (none on the varsity team however) 230 boys in the high school, 99 on the football team - 65 (not including freshmen) that play "varsity" Not much disparity between BGA and BA numbers wise - BA has guys that go both ways too.
  18. No, you don't have first hand information. Your "friends" are not first hand information. Actually experiencing it is what is called "first hand". If you don't think they do a good job with the students they have, what are some ways they could improve? What steps could they take to ensure their "student athletes" are provided for and taken care of. I ask you this because if you have "first hand" knowledge of BA and you seem to have first hand knowledge of BGA, what is BGA doing a better job of that BA isn't? I'm not having a "heart attack", just trying to understand your point of view of the inside workings of BA and BGA.
  19. Last time I checked - 100% of BA's STUDENTS attend college, that means their student athletes do too. There may be an exception or two here or there that have chosen to serve their country (I'm sure we'll forgive this instance). To say that BA doesn't "care about their student athletes" is absurd, and really down right offensive. To take it a step further and stick your chest out and say that BGA is much better at caring about their students or athletes is, in my opinion, ignorant. I think that all of these schools (BA, BGA, MBA, ENSWORTH, FATHER RYAN, PJPII, etc) all do an outstanding job of meeting the needs of not only their students, but the families these students represent. Do you know what goes on at BA (or MBA, ENS, or FR for that matter)? Have you seen first hand what happens at these other schools? Do you personally know how they treat students/families? Or are you just assuming that all BA (or MBA, or ENS, etc.) cares about is winning since they have been so successful?
  20. So you're saying this Harrison kid is going to be as good as Brandan Wright (arguably the best player Tennessee has ever produced)? I doubt it.
  21. One game on Frida night is an interest. Three is an obsession. We need to get you a life. This is true KWoodroof, was watching MUS/SP on ESPN U, and BA/FR & MBA/ENS on the internet. Was going to go to the BA game but in-laws were here - my wife may have been more upset I was watching all three lol
  22. Well said KWood. Most of us don't feel like fighting a no win fight anymore. As for the game - Father Ryan played well, BA didn't - FR deserved to win - those kids fought all game. Losing Josh Pleasant didn't help. Coach Potter and his outstanding staff figure it out and turn it around this week against Olive Branch - should be a fun game. Watched BA-FR, ENS-MBA, and MUS-South Panola on Friday night - IMO ENS is the best there is. Should be fun to watch it shake out this season - those are 5 outstanding teams to battle it out (along with BAYLOR).
