  1. The state duals are not a blind draw. The top four finshers from the past year are placed, then the other teams are placed according to thier geographic locationaway from close regions. This is proably why region eight sees region Bradley or Soddy in the first round. Two years ago this was not done the three and four teams were switched up. It was done last year, I expect it to be done this year. If a team does not make it back to statethat placed the year before(Bradley, Soddy,Science Hill, or Clarksville) which ever team is representing that region would still hold the same place in the bracket. I can not speak for DII, they had a new format last year.

  8. I know camps are a long way off, but as underclassmen you need to start thinking about getting better for next year. Last year this was one of the best camps I saw. It was a great camp because the numbers were small, everyone got some one on one attention. The numbers are keep small on purpose so that there is alot of mat space to drill on. The motivation of this camp is not money, but the enhancement of the sport in Clarksville and across the state. The bad thing about the camp last year was there weren't any dorm rooms for overnight campers. This has changed the camp is now being held at APSU. IF you are true to the sport come join us in Clarksville for six days of wrestling. Sharrock Cobb, Clarksville High
  9. I will be the first to agree that our state tournament is now watered down. But I see no need wrestle DI vs DII to find a "true state champion". We are split let it go. I will agree with Steve, Johnny you are trying to help our sport. Sharrock Cobb
  10. I may be wrong, but it is my understanding that Ward and Matt McCarty will wrestle each other this weekend. I wish I could see that one!
  11. Who do I need to get in touch with for the middle school program in Nashville. CHS would like to join.

Depends upon how much support we give him. Coach Brands needs all of Tennessee to back him. My support for him has been questioned, I would like to say that I do support him and would like everyone in the state to suppoert the MOCS the way many of us support UT football.
  13. Jason Pennington and Hunter Stapp from Clarksville are working out. Jason travels to MBA and Father Ryan to freestyle every week. He welcome a new partner up there or here in Clarksville.
  14. This was my first trip to such an event. I can not discribe the level of wrestling up there. It really pumped me up. We have so far to go as a state. We sent some very good wrestlers, but they met even better ones up there. I was in total shock! I watched Dillon Jennings get teched and then that guy get teched in the next round. I know I have a lot of work ahead of me, I have seen where I want to go and now need to find a way to get there. I have become a firm believer in wrestling every event possible. It is the only way an individual can even conceive of competing in such a great event! Everyone put your nose to the grindstone and let us all get ready for the future! Sharrock Cobb
  15. I was just reading the post's about Coach Donahue and Coach Irby. I got to play for both of these great coaches in 1992 or 1993. Irby was doing his student teaching and was an assistant coach for Donahue. What a privilege! I wish I could see Irby and Donahue coach again! Gregg, Coach Donahue has relaxed alot. Sometimes I think Coach Donahue thought we were the cross country team! "Go to the softball field!" Sharrock Cobb CHS wrestling coach
  16. Coach Blair I liked the medal round. We were there late Friday, but I expected that with that many wrestlers. I enjoyed getting home early on Sat. As far as the freshman/jv tournament other than the good competition at your tour. having all my wrestlers wrestle that weekend is a big plus. The reply about the few freshmen tour. was correct. Just an idea, can you move the head table up to the second floor and put six mats down? You could run your bout sheets up and down in a basket like they do at the Grand Championships. Great tour. we would love to come back next year! Sharrock
  17. Sat. only. No until our new gym is finished.
  18. No Soddy is not coming. They pulled out two years ago. Coach Henery contacted me about coming back this year, but he could not make it happen. His team will be on the road wrestling out of state the week of Slamfest and his athletes have exams the next week. I totally understand and hope to see them return next year. Soddy is an outstanding program. They would only strengthen the competition at Slamfest.
  19. Dan Gable will be coming to Clarksville for a camp in July 2003. The camp will be a day camp at Clarksville High or Rossview July 14-17. Make plans to attened now. If you will be staying in a hotel make reservations now. The National AAU basketball tournament is the same week. The other details of the camp are still in the works. Any questions e-mail at CHSGrapplers@aol.com
  20. This is Sharrock Cobb the Clarksville Coach, I have been reading the boards for over a year now, but never posted a message. I will today. Johnny Masters is an excellent coach, we both have different styles, but we both care about our kids. I do not know of a top ten program that does not do some type of wrestling year round. CHS also starts in July preparing for the up coming season. We are in the weight room 3 times a week and hit the mats at least once a week. If I didn't open the mat room up at least once I couldn't keep my guys on the weights regularly. Wrestling is like a bug bite you have to scratch it every now and then. I would also like to address the Coach Jordan "rumor". So what if Jeff Jordan helps Kenwood out. Coach Jordan is so knowledgeable it is a waste for our sport not to share him. There is a huge rivalry between CHS and Kenwood. This is one of the reasons the two schools have had some success over the recent past. They feed off the other. Master's is a great coach who believes in his program and his kids. Northwest will have a team this year that could shake the region up. I know they have been working hard in the weight room all summer too. But let's leave all this on the mat, none of this really matters. All that truly matters is where you finish in the end, and when you finish can you look back and say you gave it your best.
