  1. Eagleheart, I'm glad you brought up the coaching in this game, it was such a CLOSE game it is apparent that the coaches from East have no idea what they are doing. I especially agree with the comments about the defensive coordinator, he's AWFUL! He should have to turn in his whistle and be forced to sit RIGHT NEXT to you in the stands and allow YOU to teach him how to coach--kinda like an internship. On second thought, he and all of the coaches should be run out of town! Not because of their coaching abilities, but to spare them the "support" of such dedicated fans like you. I know, I know, it's not about you or the coaches, it's about the kids, and you love these kids so much with your great big "eagleheart." I'm sure that you're the loudest supporter on game night with your "eaglemouth" too. I'm sure everyone appreciates you and what you do for the program--especially here on coachT with your criticism, behind your screen name, I know I do. Please continue your "support" and criticism. I'm absolutely positive that it makes you feel better and it definitely makes a difference. P.S. When you say you've had a few, you clearly mean a few self-inflicted blows to the head with a rubber mallet. Next time, do us all a favor--go sit in a closet by yourself and get "hammered" and refain from drooling on your keyboard and embarassing yourself AND trying to excuse your comments by claiming you've "had a few." With Sincerest Regards, Havoc005
  2. Some Spread teams try to spread the field to create running lanes or space to run the football, and others spread the field to sling it around. From what I know about the Tony Franklin System, it is one that relies on a passing quarterback to spread the football around. One question: If you don't have a prototypical passing quarterback, what do you do? Do you make him throw anyway and hope for the best? I wonder how adaptable this offense is to the skill set of the players you have. I like the idea of the spread offense because it does cause problems for the defense especially if it's run without a huddle. Personally, I like the idea of a spread option like Florida or Utah runs that isn't as dependant on the pass especially at the high school level where from yera to year you may or may not have a good quarterback. I wish the new coach luck this year and I hope the kids can make the adjustments to be successful.
  3. CoffeeBreak and others, What can you tell me about the condition of the football program and school? I know they have only had a football team for a few years and I know that they had an impressive season this year in a relatively tough region with the likes of Cascade, Jo Byrns, Forrest and other quality teams on their schedule. Do they lose a lot of Seniors? Do they have a good group of kids coming up? What type of student athlete are they attracting at the school? Is the administration commited to making the program successful? Any insights would be appreciated, thanks!
  4. Some very good points to ponder coming from a parent, especially since I don't have any of my own children yet. -Thanks
  5. As a young coach, I'm curious to hear opinions and thoughts on this topic. What is the best/most often followed path for a coach's advancement from a position as an assistant coach to a head coaching position? Is there an order of advancement that must be followed, such as assistant coach, to coordinator, and then head coach? If so, is there a timeframe for this process? Obviously, it's greatly beneficial to learn from older, more experienced coaches and to attend clinics etc., but does it matter where, or under whom you learned your craft? Lastly, what are the intangibles that a coach should possess to be well-respected as a coach and considered as a head coaching candidate? (In essence, who would you want to coach your son?)
  6. Randy Smith, Defensive Coordinator at Columbia Central. He is a competitor and has a good deal of experience as well as a proven track record. In addition to that, he is committed to the program and the kids--year round. He does a great deal for the kids in the program too. The man thinks about football year-round! I think that he'd make an excellent HC.
