  3. iamoz, do you have the OS scoring break down for the A-E game, please post if you do. Thanks, Go Lady Cats, beat Seymour.
  4. The schedule as I know it is as follows: JV girls 2 pm JV boys 3:30 pm Varsity girls 5 pm Varsity boys 6:30 pm
  5. The 14U Knox Lady Tarheels are looking for an experienced coach for the upcoming AAU season. The coach should take the game serious and be willing to commit the time and energy needed. The Tarheels are starting their 3rd year as an organization with a strong core group of ladies returning. If you are in Knox County, Anderson County or any of the surrounding counties and are interested in coaching a talented group of young ladies contact Bobby at (865) 675-5568 or (865) 680-3004.
  6. Oliver Springs plays Hancock County this Saturday in a Hall of Fame game. Does anyone have any info on Hancock County and what are the predictions for this game. I know OS had a rough game with them last year.
  7. Does anyone know who won the 13U championship???
  8. We should not berate Coach Cupp, Coach Ballard or Coach Wright for choosing to changes their circumstances. Have you ever changed jobs? Each of these men in one way or another helped to put the Oliver Springs basketball programs on the map. Think where the girls program was just a few short years ago (we were just hoping the girls would place high enough at the district tournament to get to the regionals). The big key is to maintain this level of play and expectations. Programs like Jackson County (4 straight gold balls) and Livingston Academy are good year in and year out. How does Oliver Springs maintain this status now that it has been reached? The point of this thread should be who would be the best replacement for Coach Wright now that he has announced to the team that he will not be back next year. I˜ve stated before on this thread that I think Sam Bilyeu would be the obvious choice, he has coached for at least 25 years and had winning seasons almost every year. He has won with talent and won in years when the talent is not as good. He has coached most of these girls in the past therefore there would not be a big transition for the girls. They know what to expect and he knows what they can do. He has contacts with the middle school program and if his replacement works with him can start laying the high school foundation at the middle school level (as he has been doing for several years). He is already in the school system. Sam brings the qualities, (hard work, desire, heart, defense and team before me attitude) that I believe would help the Lady Cats get back to Murfreesboro and help them maintain this level. The question is who else is out there that has these qualities and might be interested in the job and who would put his/her heart and soul into the program? An earlier post mentioned Marcum. Who is this and what are his/her qualifications? Are there others? Also I˜d like to say something about expectations: If you don˜t expect it from your players then they will never achieve it. If you don˜t expect to win district titles, regional championships, sub-state battles and gold balls then your teams will never win any of these. I will use Sam and Norwood as an example. Every year Sam and his teams expect to win a championship at the TNT or now the TMSAA. Some years they don˜t reach those expectations but most years they do. My daughter played at Norwood, which has been down for the last several years. The expectations at Norwood have been winning more games than we lost (not championships) at least until their new coach took over this year. The program took the first steps this past season to becoming a better program, because the coach expected it, the girls believed it and they all worked toward making it happen. I˜ll say it again ˜ If you don˜t expect to win then most of the time you won˜t. The expectations are high at Oliver Springs High School (and rightly so) and we better get someone in there to coach these girls that expects to win championships every year. OS returns all but 3 girls from this year˜s varsity team, plus this year˜s JV and has several talented players who will be freshmen next year (from OS and Norwood and there˜s more talent in the 6th and 7th grades as well) therefore the expectations will not only be high this year but will be high for years to come.
  9. As an outsider looking in (someone from Norwood) and also someone who went to school with Sam for many years I thought I'd weigh in with my opinion. I think Sam would be an excellent choice for the high school position. He obviously knows the game, is good at getting the most out of his players and plays the style of basketball (fastbreak, press and pressure man to man) that brings home trophies. Some people say that Sam wins because he has good talent and I agree he has had some great players, but you don't win year in and year out on talent alone. I've seen teams loaded with talent lose on a regular basis. Another point to be made is with Sam already being in the school system Mr. Hacker has more flexibility in hiring a replacment math teacher. He doesn't have to look for a coach/math teacher. Here's hoping Hacker reads this and gives Sam a fair shake for the position. [Edited by oscats14 on 3-26-03 5:50A]
  10. More of the Norwood kids would probably go to OS if they thought the people from OS wanted them there. The Clinton coach came to at least 4 games this season. The OS coach none. Plus when we go to the high school games we here comments like "What are you doing here this is an OS game and Is this a Norwood game or an OS game" These are common comments made by OS middle school students (I've heard them myself). The things some of the OS middle school parents say are a whole lot worse and vindictive against the Norwood players.
  11. In answer to OS91 and TheAnswer9 the Norwood 8th graders say they are doing the following: 1 is moving to Kentucky after this school year is out. 2 say they are definitely going to Clinton. 1 is undecided at this point, but leaning toward OS
  12. Does anyone know when and who Oliver Springs will be playing in the Farragut Tournament????
  13. Does anyone know the schedule and lineup for the Christmas Tournament being held at Bearden????
  14. Will the new Tennessee Liberty 13's have tryouts. If so when and where.
  15. Does anyone know the score of the game between Clinton girls and McMinn County girls.
  16. Does anyone know the score of the Clinton / Powell girls game last night.
  17. I beleive Brooke is in the 7th Grade this year. That class will be very talented as well with Brooke Barger, Leanna Noe, a Whalen girl, Ellie Morgan, Jessica Braden, Candace Aslinger, and possibly Breanne Colyer.
  18. Oliver Springs High School will receive a very talented freshmen class next year. If this group progresses they could end up being very special. They are: Jennifer Smith - plays wing or point, good shooter, good scorer Megan Morgan - plays wing or small forward, good shooter, good rebounder Lauren Copeland - 5'-9" post with loads of potential, very good rebounder Paige Huckabey - wing with very quick hands on "D", can rain 3's and Andrea Parton - plays point, excellent ballhandler, slasher who can score. Unfortuntly these girls won't be together until they reach high school, but watch out when they get there.
