Ehh, the game will be won on the field. They may end up being right, but who cares what they say.

Austin did say he was basing his prediction on how are lines played last year, which was not great.  So far we have looked good in our line play.  I'm thinking like a 21-18 game in favor of the Wildcats.

How did Oak Ridge look in their scrimmage Friday?

I thought we looked pretty decent.  If we can continue to block for Dozier it's going to be a fun year.  Everything is new and we started a little slow, but showed some promise.  Receiving core is fairly deep, running backs, not so much.  I thought lines did well on both side of ball.  I don't know how good Fulton really is, but Maryville should be quite a test.  I have a feeling that we will work on tackling this week as it was not good.

I was going to wait until after the Fulton scrimmage.  Hope to catch a little practice today.  I'm still around!  Hard to tell about a team until after the hitting starts.

According to 5 Star Preps, there is a QB battle between Stansbury and Goins.  Garza, who started the last half of the year, is no longer on the team.  We have had some attrition from last year, but the team still looks pretty solid.  We'll know more for sure come Friday.

Anybody go over to Halls last night? Couldn't make it so was wondering how everybody looked with the new coaches!

I was there until 7:00.  I thought we looked good, but considering it was a joint practice and not a scrimmage it is hard to draw many conclusions.  We have a lot of speed on both sides of the ball.  Our lineman competed hard; first unit defense dominated up front.  If we can keep our guys healthy, it should mean a special season.  Some players that stood out:  Dozier should have a monster season for us; Heyward, Amari and Cummings  will burn a lot of teams that we play; also, Noles #20 gives us another option at TE; both Stansbury and Garza looked good at QB.  Defense was dominate and aggressive.  We have good depth backing most of the starters.

Most important, I thought everyone on the field had a good idea of what they were supposed to do.  Probably the most positive thing I got out of this session.

So the fouls will be like college I guess right?? Don’t know the number of fouls per quarter but college is similar I believe. Will be interesting.

Yes, like Try wrote 4 per quarter, then subsequent fouls gives 2 shots.  Fouls reset at each quarter.  Just like college, I expect the shot clock will be implemented soon if schools can afford to take on the cost.

Does anyone know the details yet?

Only this press release from OR Schools:

“Oak Ridge Schools can confirm that Coach Scott Cummings is no longer employed as the Head Football Coach at Oak Ridge High School. Because this involves a personnel matter, however, Oak Ridge Schools will have no further comment at this time, other than to wish Coach Cummings the best moving forward.”
