1. Greenbrier, you might as well sit back and read these messages while the Fulton Falcons talk among themselves about how great they are, or better yet, don't let the players read these at all.  Talk is a psychological part of the game and Fulton is going to have an answer for anything Greenbrier fans say.  Yes, they've won the championship before and they can tout that claim.  It will be a tough game to go into, but I've seen both Fulton and Greenbrier.    Just as Fulton says Greenbrier hasn't played a team like Fulton, neither have they played one like Greenbrier where Greenbrier defense has run receivers down from behind.  To me, playing in the semifinals last year, and getting to the finals this year says Greenbrier is a force to be reckoned with and with a better overall record than Fulton this year, they deserve to be in the playoffs just as much as Fulton.  So don't play into their hype.  Overconfidence kills.

FYI...Most of the pro-Fulton comments that I have been reading on this thread are from fans of other teams that have faced Fulton throughout the year (many of the comments have came from Smith County fans). I think that speaks volumes about our program and is greatly APPRECIATED. We dont need a debate on a fan's message board to give us an edge...We do our talking on the field!

Like I said before...Call us "favorites", call us "underdogs" or whatever you'd like, because our team doesnt worry about the labels, we just worry about Taking Care of Business!!!

Good Luck to both teams...GO BIG MAROON!!!!!

  2. I'm sure Greenbrier has an excellent team and coaching staff or they wouldn't be were they are. But Fulton is going to be the best team you have faced this year by far. On defense it's going to be like a full court press the whole game, least little bobble and one of those athletes will make a play that could be fatal for your team. I sure Kingsbury had speed but I assure you they are no where close to Fulton. You might think that you will control the game with running the ball but Fulton can strike from anywhere at any time just ask Smith Co. Look out for Fulton's wedge buster on kick-offs he will really get the show started. Then hang on because Fulton's athletes are simply going to amaze everyone. Greenbrier better take advantage of every opportunity they get because Fulton is a real dangerous team with some of the best athletes I've seen on this level.

    Thanks for the support!

Playing teams outside of your region is always an interesting venture. One never knows for sure what to expect…but I can tell you for sure that we will be prepared for Battle and will play our hearts out until the end.

Yes, we have athletes and many Weapons, but our coaches do a great job putting the Playmakers in a position to make the plays and they utlilize each of our assets to our advantage on the field. we have a knack for exploiting what the defense allows us...If you choose to shut down the run (like Smith), we can get you with the pass and challenge the DBs...If you put an emphasis on stopping the pass, we can use a change of pace on the ground.

Another thing that is not talked about as much, but should be given the credit due, is the Defense and Special Team. Eventhough we have 7 or so Sophomores that start and contribute on defense, Coatney has them prepared each week and, although young, they have been up to each and every challenge that has been thrown their way. Also, you can’t say enough about the effort on Special Teams…those guys put it on the line and sacrifice life and limb on every kickoff and punt. Our kicking game has also made tremendous strides and has been on par throughout the playoffs and the kickers have developed into one of the best that we have seen in some time.

This team is really meshing at the right time and if we play Our Game, we will be hard to beat…no matter the competition!

    Go Falcons!!!

  3. This will be my last post about this game since we have other things to talk about now. I just want to give respect to Smith County/Carthage as a whole. I expected to put up with some rude, arrogant, dissrespectful people when I pulled into Smith County. Why? B/c of the things that happened in the Trousdale and Macon games. I was proven wrong though. Everyone was very polite and welcoming. The players, coaches, and fans were all wonderful and classy. I said in another thread earlier that Smith County fully outclassed their other region teams, and I stand behind that comment 100%. I wouldn't mind going back to Smith County for a game or two. (Of course only if that's where the Falcons were playing). Good luck to ya'll in the future. And for those who have said that the game was closer then the score implies, you're right on the money. As a Falcon I agree with ya. For the guy who said it was the same way with Macon last year....What game was u watchin?!?!

And....not to make anybody mad or get ya'll in a tizzy.....not to be hurtful....but it's gotta be said.......

    WE OWN THE HOLE!!!!

...and the creek!....and the train whistle!....and region 4!!!

Just had to get that off of my chest....call me classless....I feel that comin on....but I got nothin but love for Smith County. TC and MC....well we won't even go there. Hope the Owls get a ring in 2a next year!!!

    As Always....GO FALCONS!!!!

    825455871

I totally agree with your sentiments, Pigeon!!!

Every fan that we encountered were first class and the game atmosphere was definitely one of the most FAN FRIENDLY...especially for a road game. I was expecting something similar to Trousdale, but Smith had their own special set-up. One could really tell that Carthage makes football a huge event each week and they really enjoy the pageantry of the game.

Good luck to Smith County next year in 2A!

  4. GreenbrierCat2,Nov 27 2004 - 09:34 AM]Man, this will be exciting.  Fulton can keep on overlooking Greenbrier, that's okay.  Greenbrier comes in the underdog and comes out the victor.  I look for the same next Saturday because Fulton already is going in thinking they've got this thing wrapped up.

:angry:Greenbrier will show the GREEN in the 'Boro next Saturday!!!  NoDoubt, only a handful of people I talked to didn't make the trip last night----well, next Saturday they can lock up the town, because as it was evident last night, Greenbrier will show up in FULL force.

    Go GREENBRIER!!!!!

    825454740

I dont think you understand...you dont make it through the playoffs and to the Championship three straight years by underestimating ANY of your opponents. This is fact...Fulton will evaluate the game film and respect all of Greenbrier's strengths. Call us "favorites", call us "underdogs" or whatever you'd like, because our team doesnt worry about the labels, we just come to play each and every week. Congrats to both teams and GO FALCONS!!!!!

  5. Kudos to the Falcons coaching staff for coming out with a great game plan, for making the appropriate adjustments at half time and leading this team to the Victory! Congrats to Buck, Potter, Jay, Smiddy, Vincent, Bob and Robbie Black (and others)...I guess you could say we turned Smith County field into the "Black" Hole.

Good Luck next week, going for the Repeat!!!

  6. This thread has turned out the exact same way that the Macon thread went last year, after we won at Bob Black field in the Semis. You have fans on here congratulating us and then others that can’t deal with the loss, reverting to the old consolation, “We lost, but your team/fans were classless.” Well according to some of you guys, you can’t spell class without an “L.” I will take our “W” and be classless, if it makes you feel better about your “L.”

  7. Your very welcome, kwalker! As for the wet field, we have had several days of rain down here this week.  ;) Footing wasn't a problem though and it definately didn't hamper any of Fultons speed.

I mentioned the difference in the game was the size and athleticism at wr/db. I still think that is the difference in these two teams. I mean sometimes we had you covered very well and still your athleticism allowed the guy to make the play. Other times we couldn't get you covered sufficiently. Had you beat a couple of times in the secondary and your ability allowed you to recover. The first interception was an example of that. Your front seven and eight can play, but ours was just as effective. I never said your defense wasn't any good. We've seen defenses comparable all year long everywhere except at db.

msmoker, I think the "close to the vest" style is the way to play your team. Greenbrier will do the same kind of thing. The difference again might be on the outside.

    825454834

Your right...teams are smart to play us conservative. I also saw a lot of opportunity for you guys to open up your offense early in the second half that would have been beneficial for your squad…not just throwing the ball deep for the sake of stretching our defense. We saw ultra-conservative from Macon which were much more one dimensional last year than you guys could ever dream to be. The comment really wasnt a dig...I just felt like I was watching UT under Johnny in the late 80s…esp. with the quick kick on third. (Cant really say I blame you for it either…just showed REPSPECT for our defense). Seems like that style worked for you guys and got you to the Semis. Once again, great game by Smith, they have every reason to be proud.

Now, as for those that say we were not much more than a few big plays and want to criticize our coaches:

First, let me refer back to our Record (37-4 the last 3 years) with 3 state championship appearances. That is especially impressive when you consider most of those wins have came against teams that play the best brand of ball in the state. No doubt East Tn plays the best brand of ball, BAR NONE!!! That should be enough said but let me expound…

Second, while we are on coaching, I think the defense proved to be well-coached and did a fine job holding Smith down all night. Other than a busted play, we matched the Owls defense..BLOW FOR BLOW!!!

Lastly, the sign of Great coaching is the ability to make adjustments, not just coming out with a decent game plan. Coatney and his staff made the adjustments and opened up the offense and exposed your defense’s weaknesses. We have great coaches because we utilize ALL OF OUR WEAPONS! And those WEAPONS have to be coached on such things as route running, timing, concentration, reading defenses and making passing reads…these are the things that your average fan doesn’t understand. Why play into the defenses hands…b/c they were strong with the run, we went to the outside and showed Smith what a multi- dimensional attack was all about. Fulton won the game because we withstood the early adrenaline induced play of Smith and utilized all of our weapons and athletes to expose your defense. Our coaches do just what the Smith coaches do…We call plays and scheme according to the personnel that we put on the field. Last night, the combination of great playmakers and great coaching lead to a GREAT VICTORY!!!

GREAT WIN FALCONS…Good LUCK next week in the ‘BORO!!!

  8. First, I have got to give credit to Smith County for a great effort and for a hard fought game...some of the most well coached kids that we have faced in the last 3 years. Your group, although less athletic and not as flashy, seemed to know their assignments well and played within their strengths. Smith was not the type of team that was going to go out and wow you, but played very well within their scheme and took what we gave them for the first part of the game. Style of play was a little too close to the vest (We here in Knoxville always believed that Johnny Majors retired to his home in Pittsburg, but we now know that he is alive and kicking in Carthage). Not a criticism, but that style play would drive this fan crazy. The defense was impressive, but our athleticism gave us the edge and we never looked back. The team resembled Macon County from ’03 from a defensive standpoint with more weapons on offense. Although I felt Smith was better coached and more disciplined with assignments and not making mental mistakes. The Athleticism and Speed of our skill players were ultimately what took over the game and was the deciding factor in the win.

As for the signs, I really didn’t know why they were being brought out with 7 minutes left in the game…and also think that we could have let the scoreboard do the talking! And in my math classes, they taught us that 33 points was more than the 20 points (that would "NEVER be scored in the Hole/Not going to happen")...well it happened!!!

Also, I would never fault us for continuing to pass with a lead in the forth quarter, especially after enduring the come from behind loss to Anderson County in 2001 playoffs….the game was very much still in reach. So if people say it was classless...I guess we will just have to be classless!! Acummulating a 37-4 record the past 3 years speaks for itself and comes about by having a philosophy of not letting up!!!

Congratulations to our Falcon’s coaches and players on this big win. You went into the "Hole" and climbed your way out with a huge victory. In the second half, we stepped up and brought our own brand of Fireworks! Bishop seems to be a man amongst boys! When we opened our offense up, it was too much for Smith to handle. This team has proved so much and exceeded expectations…Entire team should be commended for the effort and dedication throughout the pre, regular and post seasons. Everyone in the Falcon community is proud of the character of this group…they have shown a lot of fortitude by shaking off 2 early season losses and find ways to win, especially tough games on the road in the playoffs. One would never know that this team was so young.

That being said…Let’s go out and get another Gold Ball and Ring!!!!!

    Go Falcons!!!

  9. What's up with this? I thought coach Dyer's son actually PLAYED for Smith County.? Didn't he skip one of Macon's games to go to the Smith County homecoming? Caused a little controversy to say the least. Why in the world would he want a Fulton sweatshirt?

    825452861

Dont know why...but I know he has style!

  10. Bigreid- You want something smart...OK!!

    1) Force is equal to Mass x Acceleration.

    2) Momentum is equal to Mass x Velocity

    3) An object with momentum also has Kinetic Energy.

This energy, which is often called the energy of motion, is the energy a body possesses because of its motion.

The kinetic energy (E) of an object is one-half of its mass multiplied by the square of its velocity. The formula is written E = 1/2 mv-squared. When the formula is written in terms of the momentum of the object, it is E = 1/2 pv.

-Notice that in this formula, Mass is cut in half (thus lessening it's significants)...while Velocity (or speed) contributes exponentially (or increases at a very, very high rate).

In other words, Velocity is much more critical to creating a surge of power.

(let's put this in laymans terms)

The kinetic energy of an object increases with the square of its velocity. For example, an automobile moving at 60 miles an hour has four times the energy it would have at 30 miles an hour. This increase in kinetic energy is why high-speed collisions are so much more dangerous and damaging than low-speed collisions. When a moving object collides with another object, energy and momentum are transferred. The energy given up by the moving object is called the IMPACT. Objects moving at high velocity have high Impact if they strike another object.

    So Class...the question is this:

After the above is considered, who will have the true impact?

  11. Enough of this talk about who is the underdog or who should be favored (which BTW, the Power Rankings have SC with the advantage 1.45 to 1.39...and throw in home field)...anyway...Let's talk about what is going to determine the game...

What does Smith County have to do to win this one?

I can tell you that the Falcons will have to keep turnovers to a minimum (from what I have heard, Smith doesnt make alot of mental mistakes), reel off some big plays on offense and special teams and control the line of scrimmage.

  12. Now that's the most sensible post any of your fans have made since this thread started. I knew you all had it in you to come around to our way of thinking. Instead of trying to intimidate us.

    825452710

It is not all about intimidation for me or for our Falcons...what gets me going are some of the nonsensical posts from fans that havent even analyzed the game and just want to throw some crazy post on the board.

What is up with Smith Co's Roster on Coach T (3 players total)? Is there somewhere on the net you can get their Roster and information about the team?

BTW...I found something for you that came from a Macon fan last year (I do find some irony in the fact that your QB is name Brady)...

    Cbrooks11

"Everbody forgets about our first-round opponent, Howard. Sure they had a bad record and came out of a weak region, but they brought speed to the game and don't think for one second that our boys aren't ready for it.

Fulton, much like the Rams, could fly all over the place with playmakers to get it done anytime. Macon County, much like the Patriots, would get it done with defense and special teams due to the coaching and the discipline. The deciding factor will be which team wants it more. But I assure you this, mark it down: SOMEBODY'S GETTING HIT!

Let me assure you that if there's a helmet with a Falcon on it.....the one who carries it is gettin hit......hard! We can take hits too....let's just see who gets up first!"

  13. This game will be won by the team that has a combination of Good Players/Athletes, and these INTANGIBLES: Heart, Preparation, Game-planning/adjustments by the Coaches, Conditioning and Knowing how to win in pressure situations!!!

From what I hear, both teams exhibit many of these characteristics, which will in turn lead to ONE GREAT GAME ON FRIDAY!!!!

Good Luck and LET THE BEST/MOST COMPLETE TEAM WIN!!!!!

Go Falcons...ALL OF K-TOWN IS PULLING FOR YOU!!!!!!!

  14. Rebuttal...

Number 1- I have been on this thread since the beginning and have given Smith County due, respectfully. When I see replies the that we have a group of "cocky, arrogant, undisciplined players" and also that "Falcons Blow" echoed...that will illicit a response from me everytime!!! Like it or Not!!

Number 2- In a word: RESPECT. I see reply after reply of nothing but disrespect to our program that has accomplished so much...and b/c of that I have stated the reality of the situation and let everyone know that we wont be the ones wilting under the pressure of playing on the road, and that Smith players will no doubt have a lot of anxiety going into this game.

Number 3- If you look at my past responses, I have made it clear that everyone understands the importance and the benefit of home field advantage...but also remember that we have handled our own in the playoffs, home or on the road, and thus we are not really worried about your so-called "Hole." We really dont care...we could play this one in a ditch, gully or the Cumberland Gap, it really doesnt matter, b/c we are going to come to the game prepared and be ready to Take Care of Business!!!

  15. ATTENTION SMITH COUNTY SHEEP

It appears that the SHEEP have now come out in earnest. It is good to see some of you are showing your true colors and have abandoned the inferiority charade.

Take Notice...On Friday Night, the Owls are going to be faced with their greatest challenge since AE rolled through in the mid 80s. Smith has not played in a game this big in ages. The main question at hand is how will they handle the pressure of the magnitude of this game and more importantly, how will the team handle the psychological pressures manifested from their own doubts. The doubts that they have right now as they lay in their beds wondering if they have what it takes to contend with the Defending Champs. You better believe that some are becoming sick from the unknown factor and from wondering, “Do we have what it takes to beat the Champs?”

Friday, we will be at your home field…but the Owls will be in OUR WORLD…the world of the Playoffs…where we have dominated for the past 3 years. We are going to show you what East Tn football is all about.

Remember…Your Owls have just learned how to be successful and have not yet learned how to overcome this type of adversity. Know one thing…After Friday Night your Owls will know that they were in the battle of their life and will have the bumps and bruises to prove it. TO BE THE CHAMPS, YOU MUST BEAT THE CHAMPS!!!!!

I expect to see each and every one of the Smith County Sheep on this board after the game on Friday. I am looking forward to it and will savor the moment.

  16. WOW!!! Looks like I got some people's attention!!! Must have hit a nerve with some!!!

KWalker - Thanks for the backing on the Cobb accusation. If they would stop and read the previous posts they would realize that someone actually asked about Reggie, so I obliged with the info. And I never heard one Fulton fan say that Tyrone was going to be a factor because he is Reggie's brother...Besides, his strength is on Defense!

This bunch should be working for the papers, with all the mis-quotes! Now on to the victims!!!

Maxout- Never smoked anything...except for a few of your's and other 4A fans on these boards. I'm Actually a former Alumni/Player for the Falcons and also a Proud fan. First initial M, last name Smoker. Like Jeff Smoker Backup QB for the Rams...good lead-in to the next victim...

Rocking Chair- The post read, "Similar to the analogy that Macon fans used last year." Similar, meaning not exactly, but somewhat the same...Macon fans used the Pats vs. Rams Superbowl to compare a team built on Speed (US) getting beat by a team that played with little flash (Tigers), but still got the job done. Speaking of the Owls...ur, I mean, the Patriots...they had quite a few little speedy guys playing last night (Patten, Branch and T Brown are some of the faster receivers in the league). Guess that Patriots comparison kind of goes out the window...but it sounded really nice!!!

M Vick..that was actually last year (QB J Long). We have another guy...not as flashing, but he can get the job done.

Also, I sense a bit of stereotyping coming from your camp...Some of your insinuations and innuendos are borderline. Let's keep those personal ideologies to yourself. Also, I dont know how you can make such assumptions (i.e. that we are cocky and arrogant) about a team that you havent even followed, probably have never seen play, much less, people you have never met.

Time to prove more Nay Sayers wrong!!! Get'em Falcons!!!

  17. 33cuz- I think you know what I mean...people will get on the board and say about anything...some of it is nonsense and really doesnt relate to the game. Comparing a High School team to an NFL team is nothing more than throwing "words on a message board." In other words, the statement didnt really relate to the argument about the matchup.

  18. I'm not being sarcastic or anything...but please remind me who Reggie Cobb is...I know I've heard that name...but I just can't remember...ya know I'm getting old...

    825447985

Queenie- you really need to get out more, esp. on Saturdays. Reggie Cobb was a Tailback for the Vols in the late 80s. He was a part of the vaunted "Cobb-Webb" backfield. He played at Knox Central and also played in the NFL for the TBay Bucs and the GBay Packers.

  19. quit referring to how bad ya'll beat macon. no one cares and we aint macon. if ya'll think ur comin to the hole and beatin us like that then u r in for a rude awakening. bring on the speedy falcons...i cant wait to see the owls show them what region 4-3A is about this year....falcons gonna find out real quick what a BIG HIT is....so come on down...we're ready and waiting.  :D

    825447970

Sleepy- your act is already gettin tired...No PUN intended!!!

If you and some of your other under-educated fans cant get on here and comprehend a post, then dont comment at all.

If you look at the post, nothing was said about how we beat Macon...My point was that their fans tried to make the same "Patriots" analogy!!
