  5. Yeah, we found a real professional. He runs a studio near St. Marys. He really does a good job with the contrast and lighting! We're having him fill-in while Photoman is on vacation.

  13. What ever happened to Rankin? He was tough...I played against him my sophomore year at Fulton ('89). He caught a swing pass in the flats, I came up from corner and tried to cut him and he hurdled me for about a 40 yard gain.
  14. ‘Tis true, out of region records can be somewhat indicative of the strength of a particular region…but it can also prove to indicate the weakness of a particular area (i.e. west, middle or east) and disparity in strength of competition, which I think is the case in the comparison between Region 7 and 2-3A. When comparing out of region games and records you may not be comparing “apples to apples.” The stats may be valid, but are they reliable for our comparison. I say no. First, let’s start with the obvious; “Strength of Schedule + Success rating” Last year, Region 2 had six teams in the top 20 according to SS+S vs. three for Region 7. Region 2 had a SS+S avg. of 1.17 vs. 1.13 for Region 7. Next, let’s look at the not so obvious; you’re “Out of Region records” Yes, Region 7 did appear to have great success versus non-regional opponents, but was this not a reflection of the inadequacies of the area. If you evaluate the out of region games for Region 2 and 7 you will see a large disparity in two categories: combined overall record of non-region opponents and opponents over .500 (IMO this would indicate overall opponent strength) - The combined record of non-region opponents for Region 2 was 174-139 or .556 vs. the 111-191 or .367 for Region 7…almost a 200 point disparity. - Also, Region 2 played 14 non-region opponents with records over .500 vs. 5 for Region 7. Furthermore, in the last 5 years, Region 2 has represented the east side of the bracket every single year…winning the title 4 times during that span.

  16. First, Congrats to Alcoa on the win...They have talent at every position and will be tought to beat on the road to the 'boro. Second, in response to the all the criticism of the Falcons: #1 The starting quarterback (whom is a Sophomore himself) was suspended just prior to the game. Another Sophomore and a Freshman shared time at QB during the game Neither had any real game time experience. If the QB situation is unchanged from last year (barring suspensions and a transfer), these would be our 4th and 5th string QBs. No team would even want to face, or have much success against Alcoa under those circumstances. I was not going to comment on the game, but I am really taking offense and dont think the comments are fair or warranted, considering we had numerous turnovers, several unclean snaps and could never get into a flow on offense, due to the QB situation. I am sure that the Tornadoes had some to do with it, but the situation was not a good one for extremely young, non-experienced QBs. #2 Our All-State linebacker, Tyrone Cobb, never saw the field. Seems like I heard a bunch of Alcoa fans last night at the game, screaming that they would have beaten Maryville and been 3-0, if Warren had not been suspended for that game (because Maryville was "running all the plays, where Warren would have been"...interesting concept). Even though I dont agree with their logic (or lack of logic), I think even they can understand the impact of losing an All-Star. The game was not indicative of our talent, and was definitely not typical Fulton football. Fulton has good players and an exceptional coaching staff. I am sure that they will see this as a challenge and tackle it head-on!
  17. I am still sensing defensiveness. Your self imposed reverse-psychology is a weak and failed attempt to mitigate and cushion your deeply rooted disappointment and frustration with your beloved Runners this preseason. Also, I could really care less how Powell fairs! Hmmm...AERoadrunner a closet Falcon fan. Dont worry, we will even let you come and join the Fulton Bandwagoneers!!!
  18. I am referring to how ridiculous it is for you to argue, with continuous posts about whether or not he spun or should have spun, and whether or not that would translate to wins. I know you can be sensible and I actually enjoy reading some of your banter on these boards...I just wanted to give you an outsiders perspective and let you know that, even though you were immersed in a battle of words, the argument began to sound a little silly and I translated that as frustration from losing the quarter (which in itself is also a little silly). Anyway...good luck this week at Red Bank.
  19. AERoadrunner: This going back and forth with these Powell people is getting a little ridiculous. I saw the Watts kid and he definitely impressed me. Whether he spun, ran-over, hurdled, juked or did the electric slide down the field doesn’t matter...the number one thing is getting to the end zone, and he did that piece quite well. So give him his due. Sounds like sour grapes on your part. Let it go! As for My Falcons...They seem to be coming along quite well and, as usual, showed great athletic ability on some key plays, coupled with some fierce hits and de-cleaters. I have been on both sides of those plays (I played in a game against Alcoa in the late 80s, in which B Williams and S Mitchell where laying crack-backs almost every play--we had players dropping like flies and we all were a little woozy after that one) and I would have rather been on the "crack-back" side of that one...especially when they replay it on the jumbo-tron. I really enjoyed the pageantry of the jamboree. It is refreshing to have such a great event to celebrate Knoxville football. All teams should be proud!
  20. Russell: Thanks for the update...keep 'em comin'! I saw the game live, but I will be sure to listen on Sunday!
  21. Znagglepuz: If you asked my staff to reply on Project Grad, they would either tell you that they didnt know anything about it or that they had never heard if it (they live in the Farragut/Lenior city area). I am in fact not working with the schools or a teacher at all, but I know a good thing when I see it. Sure, you cant make some parents get involved, even if you "beat down their door." But that can be the case with many upper-middle and affluent communities. I too wish that other communities were able to implement the program...maybe they will in the future. The bottom line is the fact that if there are negatives, they are far and away outweighed by the positives. I was only quoting an article written by Principal Hatcher. I am a Fulton and UT grad, and will shortly have a Master's degree. Like you, I have paid for my continued education with loans that I am still paying to this day...but I dont hold that against the kids involved in the program (that is where self-consumed comes into play). Does your frustration really stem from the fact that you are an ex-Central coach and you have an ax to grind with Fulton and anything the school is associated with?
  22. What self-consumed people like snagglepuz don’t realize is that programs like Project Grad should not be perceived as a negative stigma for those schools that participate, but rather, should be evaluated according to all of the positives that it brings to the children that participate and to the community. I relate it to the old saying, “If you have an itch, scratch it.” If your city recognizes a community that has a lower than average percentage of high school graduates that go on the attend college, then why not implement a program to encourage these students in that area to pursue college and to realize a dream. Project Grad is just another method of trying to reach children that have never thought that college was a possibility for them, or that don’t have higher education advocated in the home. Also, one must consider the fact that most of the kids in these communities that participate in these programs will be the first from their families to graduate, attend college or to even consider the fact. These programs also help these children to boost their self esteem, something that is lacking in our less advantaged communities. The programs also show the children how to be good leaders and give them a mindset that focuses on success rather than failures. To me, it is agonizing when people try to bash a positive program that benefit our children, so that they can exercise their personal and political ideologies. But don’t worry, Project Grad will continue to do just fine without their support!
  23. After reading some of the posts on this thread concerning Fulton's scholastic status, it brought to mind a letter (written in reponse to an earlier article) that appeared in the Halls Shopper Newspaper a few weeks ago. Principal Hatcher's comments are right on target!! Fulton principal touts her school I was pleased to read the article in the Shopper featuring the Fourth and Gill neighborhood and the Young/Talman family. It is an absolutely wonderful and beautiful neighborhood with wonderful people. However, when Young made the comment about the schools in the zone, she stated that there were “challenges.” I agree. You see, I am the principal at Fulton High School, as well as a graduate and teacher at Fulton, and have been an educator for 26 years. All schools have “challenges” in this county. I bet even the private school that your children attend has its “challenges.” Austin-East, Fulton, Beaumont and Christenberry (the four schools mentioned in the article that have “challenges”) are all wonderful schools that are striving on a daily basis to achieve. I invite Nancy Young, and anyone else, to visit Fulton High School and discover the wonderful achievements of the school, its magnificent faculty and most importantly, its wonderful students! Yes, we have our “challenges,” but we have great and wonderful things happening at Fulton High School. Come and check us out!! – Kitty Hatcher Principal, Fulton High School
