  1. Every one knows there are several 14u and 16u teams in middle Tn. What has happen to the 18u and 18gold teams. Does anyone know how many there are and the names of them, These 18u girls really have a hard time finding local teams. Maybe If someone can post a list of them, It may help some of these girls find a team, There are a lot of great 18u players without teams. :roflolk:

  2. There is always talk about best pitchers, I would like to know your what you thoughts about bullet pitcher and junk ball pitcher, Can they be in the same bracket, I belive each can be called best pitcher in a given time, . Your thoughts please..

  3. A great catcher always makes their pitcher look good. I think the catcher at station Camp [ Danie Sanders :) ] needs to be watched. Danie is a Jr. She played for me this past summer, Has A pop time of 1.72 and a bat average for the summer of 575, Plus plays a awesome out field. Had a bat average at the world series in Florida of 700. Everyone knows a catcher is never in the spot light. This is why It takes a certian person to be a great catcher. They have to be humble,. tuff and very smart about the game. :)

  4. This question has been asked at TSSAA rules meeting and the answer given was, " You can go observe as a parent of a child playing but not have contact with any other players and only observe give no feedback or coaching during the game." If you are not a parent of a girl playing you cannot go and observe if you are a TSSAA coach. You cannot even be in the complex. Silly I know but that is the rule. Sad thing is many volunteer coaches who are working with a team are not understanding this rule and are not being allowed to coach anymore after the rule is broken. But all coaches who take the TSSAA class are made aware of the rule.

If this sisuation was to happen, does the player have to sit a game during the season if there is a penalty.

  5. No, only way to not be affected is if you are not a coach in the high school program. If you are a coach in any way, you can not even attend the games to watch. Much less, coach.

Thanks for the reply,, You hear so many stories it makes a lot of people wonder..

  6. Maybe she needed be in a different enviroment and away from trouble. It may not be for playing time but what is best for her at that time in her life. Which is why a lot of kids end up going out of zone. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

Catchmom sounds like you are on top of things and know what some of these kids are going through. There are lots of reason some of the kids want to go out of zone.

  7. What politics? If a player is good, then they should have no problem beating out the competition that presents itself.

I know some parents want it handed to their DD so she doesn't have to earn it. You know me, my DD has earned it

with her ability and I don't get on here and toot the horn for her, like some do. I'm old school, you earn your keep,

not given to you. Danie's a good kid and I hope she does well at the Camp. I just wanted to get you riled up for the fun of it. If you put ammo on these threads, you better expect some occasional friendly fire /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

I know you DD is very good, The team is good, But there is politics in every sport and in every school, Beating some one out when politics are allowed is impossible. I had daughters going to beech in the 80s. The politics was there then like every school out there, If a person don't see it, There are either a part of it or just blind.. I never said you played it. I am just saying it is there. Talk about old school, I am older than the dirt the school was built on, ha ha ha . This should be some good ammmo, ha ha ha . I have people every where that don;t like me because I tell it like i see and know how it is,, /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> . Now this is fun..

  8. Catchman, if this catcher is so good, how come she didn't go to the school she's zoned to, and play for one of the top teams in the State of TN, Beech Senior H.S.?? Just curious and waiting for a reply!!!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

If this who I think it is,, you already know the answer. Also you know her parents dont play politics. You also know how much politics is in the top teams or team... beech alread had a catcher , so why should she sit for 3 years, I know this will get the talk started, WOW,, /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

  9. Catchman, if this catcher is so good, how come she didn't go to the school she's zoned to, and play for one of the top teams in the State of TN, Beech Senior H.S.?? Just curious and waiting for a reply!!!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

  10. The fact that the catcher was on the team "with 4 high school state championship" says that she played for a good team. But if I can remember they had Devin Schmit so that probably says a lot. You talk about "most decorated in the state" bring up her stats not her teams. (hint: pop to pop, throw outs, pick offs, pass ball per game) but congrats!

Catch783 you are right,,If you are on a good or bad team, your persional stats is what important to college coaches. Being on a winning team will get you more looks, but you better be able to play as good as that team made you look. There are lots of good catchers over looked because of the school stats. A lot of parents are learning to keep their own stats for their child.

    Play hard ladies , proud of all of you.. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  11. My thought is, No matter if you have a travel team or a high schhol, You need to become a organization. To make any organization successfull everyone has to do their part. Coaches have to coach 100%, parents have to do their part 100%, and the players have to give 100%. Eash has to let the other do their part. The worst thing that can happen to a organiztion is politics and the people that allow it in a sport. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" . I maybe off the subject but I thought I would throw this in here,

  12. That's what I'm talking about: teaching it and gradually giving the responsibility over to the catcher. IF a catcher has a good working relationship with the pitcher, understands her role and has a good grasp of pitch calling strategies then she should be calling pitches. IMO some coaches have either taken this over as a "control thing" or coaches at lower levels (or travel ball) have not allowed the catchers to develop this skill.

    Thanks for the reply!

In most college , the coach calls the pitches, I do think it is a great thing for a catcher to learn how to call pitches when they are younger, Then they will know why and understand why certian pitches are called if they move on to college. Learning how to call pitches takes a lot of work on how to read a batter or the sisuation and where the runners are,

Study hard ladies, it will help you later on. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  13. catchman, i am also old--LOL--but the question in the original post had to do with whether or not all of the batter's box is considered foul territory if the 1st and 3rd base lines do not cut through it; there is no judgment about that. the answer is a resounding "NO!"

Yep, thats right,, but to cover theriselves, they will say its a judgememt call and I have better view than you do.. As we all know, if you argue to much. It only gets worse. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" .

    Let um play.. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

Now this is a huge pat on the back,, Great job girl.. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  15. catchman, i didn't think we were talking about a judgment call--i thought we were talking about whether or not a ball that lands in any part of the batter's box should be automatically ruled a foul ball.

I understand what we are talking about,, What in am trying to say is,, That most umpire cant see the ball when this does happen because of reasons,, So to cover theirselves,, They will say its a judgement call, Us old people have a hard saying what we want to say or explaning things. ha ha ///

    Life is good.Lets go enjoy the games// /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  16. the home plate is in fair territory; if the batted ball goes fair, the fact that it bounced off the plate doesn't change a thing; it is still fair. the fact that a ball lands in the batter's box does not make it foul. the location of the batter's box has nothing to do with whether a ball is fair or foul. i find it difficult to believe that an umpire told you that if a ball lands in a certain part of the batter's box it is a foul ball.

I have not umpired for several years, but I do know that call can be hard to make sometimes, Things happen so fast at that time, The upm has to make his best judgement call. Also some upm do not set up behind the catcher in the right slot to really see. Plus some catcher get so close up under the batter it is hard to really see to make the call, It is really hard to argure a judgement call in this situation. As a coach , we do have a different view of things because we are sitting at a different angel.

    Lets go play ball,, enjoy the day. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  17. Wow! I must immediately correct myself. There is an exception at the end of rule 8-7 that says a fake throw is considered a play and the runners should not be called out if that happens. That's what I get for not reading the entire rule before posting!

    Everyone disregard my last post!!!!!

#12fan, I have seen it called both ways this year. Maybe more of the umps need to read more,, I know I should,,

    Everyone smile, its a great day, /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  18. Everyone knows catchers are the heros that never get the attention they deserve. I think we need to give the attention they derserve by posting the names of the ones that are doing their jobs not just to bragg on one . Every one loves a pat on the back. I know there are plenty of them. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
