  1. now Sly, that wouldn't be fair. I guessed who you were (figured you out early). You have to at least try to figure it out. xbody
  2. Surely ole Sly is A.M. xbody
  3. Coach Lennon can be contacted at jflennon@myndhs.com xbody
  4. Sounds great to me! xbody
  5. Wildcat said: "I'm a ref.............If Scooter had dropped to a knee first and Creagan's head would have still hit then there would have been no slam" Henryaardvark said: "wildcat1 is correct. When you take a wrestler off his/her feet you must put your knee down before returning the wrestler to the mat." Souded to me like you both were quoting a rule or at least referencing one. I was just making the point that I see a lot of people saying that "the rule is this" or "the rule is that" and they have never actually read the rule book. xbody
  6. ACS is correct. The so called "knee rule" DOES NOT EXIST. If you lift your opponent off the mat you are responsible for his safe return to the mat. Read the rulebook and then comment on the rules. xbody [Edited by xbody91 on 2-17-03 6:58P]
  7. timj, It's not like I was pulling it from memory.....I can't even copy straight from the book. Thanks! xbody
  8. Bracket should look like this (line number then seed if applicable) Line 1- #1 seed 2- 3- 4- #8 seed 5- #5 seed 6- 7- 8- #4 seed 9- #3 seed 10- 11- 12-#6 seed 13-#7 seed 14- 15- 16-#2 seed This works for the Region tournaments and invitationals but the state tournament bracket doesn't really seed wrestlers, it takes region champs and then tries to separate them based on previous state tournament places. xbody [Edited by xbody91 on 2-7-03 5:12P]
  9. Blue14devils, Walkenvol was 145 pound state champ 1980 @ East Ridge. Just posting this info since I don't see him tooting his own horn very often. However he is very vocal from the cheap seats at any McCallie match! (ha ha). xbody
  10. Almost any wrestling fan, wrestler or parent in the Knoxville area knows Otis Abbott. He is one of the state's greatest officials and is approaching his, get this, 40th year of officiating. He has voluntarily backed off of the number of matches he works due to knee problems but I would still love to have him on the mat with my kid. Otis is a true fan of the sport having dedicated too much of his own time to this sport he loves. While many of the "fly by night" fans may dissaprove of his calls or say that he's too old to get in to position.......feel free to walk up to him and grab him by the arm and see how stout the "old man" still is. Many do not know but Mr. Abbott has worked the NCAA finals, several SEC championships and more TSSAA state championships than you can imagine. I do not post this message to have an "Abbott love fest" but it is posted to honor a dedicated official who I have had the pleasure of knowing. He has taught me more that you can imagine about the sport as a fan and a coach. We are lucky to have him here in the Knoxville area. Thanks Clint for all that you have done for the sport here in Knoxville and the state of TN. [Edited by xbody91 on 1-22-03 7:53P] [Edited by xbody91 on 1-23-03 6:34A]
  11. no upsets.....a few pins that weren't expected. 171 Jones pinned Blackmon with a nice turkey bar. Great atmosphere and a great match. Full house, cheerleaders, dance team and a pep band.
  12. Bad calls? Stalling was justified and the take down call was legit. When you put both of your hands down on the mat supporting a majority of your weight..... you've been taken down. If it was such bad of a call why didn't anyone argue it? Hummm....could be that it was correct. Take off the black and gold goggles and you might see that it was correct. Great tournament and a great place for us fans to see some quality wrestling...just wish I could have made it an all day trip. xbody
  13. reftn, Man, I love your spirit for wrestling! One problem that you have overlooked with your suggestion of each SPORT making it's choice of one division or two is football players that wrestle. Without a doubt we would have a football player (or any other sport participant) who is receiving financial aide who would want to wrestle and we would be back in the same boat again. It would put us back to the "old days" of limiting the total number of financial aide athletes at each school. I wish more than anything that the D1 vs. DII issue would go away, for the kids sake. But we all know that this is an adult's world and as long as someone is not winning there will always be adults looking for ways to make changes for their kids. Too many adults are reliving their athletic careers through their kids. xbody
